Oats is even strategic with how he schedules his lull pre-conference window OOC games. Went 7 or 8 states over to play on the road in a weird environment earlier this week then scheduled a MAC contender at home in the game right before the break.
These are sneaky games that hopefully are a learning experience for going on the road or hosting an "easy" SEC opponent down the line.

Oats always has the team ready to play the conference schedule, there is no doubt about that.

I will say something positive: I was worried about guys playing selfish due to too many talented players. That really hasn’t happened and the team has generally been really good to support each other.
Sloppy basketball is a bit easier to fix than selfish basketball, so that’s a plus.

If we are going to win the SEC...
MO, MALLETTE, and YOUNGBLOOD is going to have to see more minutes.
A lot of players will play better versus better competition though.

Ultimately I think it was a terrible idea for Oats to send the team to the Shaquille O’Neal Free Throw Shooting Camp this past summer.

nelson turns the ball over at an egregious rate. he has terrible hands. he fails to catch a lot of rebounds he should get as well.
Geez, the guy busts his arse all game. He dogs out on rebounds and fumbles some simply because he is the only one on the floor who is attacking. Nelson has some shortcomings, but knocking him on rebounding is pretty weak considering he and Mo are the only ones who actively attack the glass

Yes. These guys are winning basketball players. I am hoping that all these weird arse lineups are just fricking around to see what works and once conference play hits we will see all of them get big minutes. Gotta take into account that Youngblood is still getting back into playing shape too.

Mo should see so much more PT, he does the dirty work and gets us so many second chance opportunities. He plays defense, he helps on defense and he doesn't demand the ball in order to score.

Absolutely. I love Mo. He's a winner who will do whatever is asked of him in the pursuit of winning basketball games just like Herb.

I imagine that Stevenson is at risk of having his minutes captured by Mo D. Especially since I imagine the 3 spot is going to be Mallette and/or Youngblood eventually. Oats is just out here trying lineups to figure out what can work. I could see this 3 6'11'' forward lineup may be something to put in the back pocket against some of our opponents down the line.
Sears / Philon / Youngblood / Nelson / Omoruyi is probably the starting 5.
Holloway and Mallette will be the guard bench.
Reid, Dioubate, and Stevenson are the forward bench.
Sherrell is the break-in-case-of-emergency foul trouble big.

I just don’t understand if we are wanting to start Jarin for his defense…why not just start MO instead?
Neither can shoot but at least MO is elite defensively and rebounding and has somewhat the ability to drive and finish around the rim.

I think some of this is due to Alabama playing so many big lineups with fewer ball handlers and shooters on the floor.
Oats seems to believe our size is an advantage we need to be developing. It has come at the expense of other things. For example, it has turned this team's offense into a more stagnant one-on-one deal since there are only two ball handlers who can probe the defense and everyone else besides Nelson can't really create their own shot. And Nelson is a hot-and-cold player in that respect. Can be out of control at times.
I think we'll get back to something more resembling Nate Oats offenses of the past. They weren't going to play Mallette this year until Wrightsell went down and Youngblood just got cleared to play after injury recently. We'll get typical wing 3 into the mix before long.

That shooting was abysmal. Whew. Did the broadcast say anything about Mallette? Just curious why he only played 6 minutes and was immediately subbed out after hitting a 3.
We participated in the baby race at halftime but did not have much success

Poor FT shooting, too many TO's and too much individual dribbling. Outside of that Clark, it was a great team. Sounds like a broken record

Defense was solid though. They missed some shots but our defense was pretty much contesting everything.

If we are going to win the SEC, we’ll
Have to get better and au will
Have to collapse from their current level.

Auburn is winning the SEC. Their schedule is one of the easiest in conference and ours is one of the hardest.

I trust Mo to hit big shots then Jarin right now.
Mo will score if need be!
