I can't even take you serious.

It’s all good Kane. I know you’re just trying to pump yourself up.

Dude, our defense leaves a lot to be desired. I understand being positive as a fan, but if CNS was the man in charge, this run defense product would have him in the ICU.
If you want to blame Lawson’s ineffectiveness on his injuries, that’s fine - but get his arse off the field and put someone healthy out there. Because he is NOT getting it done.
You point to us having one loss.. we’ve only played two teams even worth mentioning, and one of those lost to UVA just days ago.
I’m ecstatic about the UGA win, but there are holes in this team (this defense primarily) that need to be patched up if we are to make a post season run. To date, I haven’t seen our defensive coordinator try to even put duct tape over those holes.

And we only got one loss! How's that possible if it's so easy like you claim?
Do you put on clown makeup to post or just want everyone to think you do?

Never thought I'd take Golding back over a current DC.

I would think Kane’s job is on the line Saturday.

This thread has been thoroughly entertaining. Great insight, and what this tells me is that Wommack has to be feeling the pressure from Deboer for underperforming.

I never said our defense DIDN'T!
Read the first post of this thread.
Never blamed Lawson's ineffectiveness on his injures...I was simply responding to the fact on why he might be a fifth year senior. (Graded the highest out of the linebackers Saturday by the way)
I only pointed to having one loss after folks claimed it's so easy to move the ball on us. It doesn't matter who we played against...if we can't stop nobody why only one LOSS?
There are holes in our defense and they are: NOT HAVING PROPER EYE DISCIPLINE, GAP ASSIGNMENTS, AND NOT SETTING/CONTAINING THE EDGE!
That's all! Have a good day.

Looking back through the game, and I don't have the ALL-22 film, but this is what I saw on their big runs:
1st quarter, 7:20 - Russaw & Lawson fill the same gap, leave left side B-gap wide open. Gashed for a 24-yard run by Frazier, #3.
2nd quarter, 13:29 - Hubbard does a poor job with his leverage, gets sucked inside & Jackson (playing off the ball at the snap, hesitates to attack the run, loses outside contain, and #33 picks up 29 yards.
2nd quarter, 5:26 - Zone left play, no wins by the defensive front, all four get wiped out by the four blockers, allows both guards to reach LB at second level, neither of them able to get off block. Hubbard takes bad angle and gets blocked off the play by his own guy. Jackson comes up in support and again loses outside contain. #33 goes for 43 yards this time.
3rd quarter, 9:01 - End around with fake reverse action. Both Jefferson and Sabb are decently positioned to make a play just after the snap, but both bite on the fake reverse, get out of position, causing Jefferson to get sealed by the left tackle and Sabb just not close enough to get to the ball carrier. Result is #86 with a 42-yard gain.
3rd quarter, 1:24 - QB keeper run by Stockton. Jefferson once again gets sucked inside where Lawson already had the gap covered, now he loses outside contain and is easily sealed by the left tackle. Jones can't get off a block or seal the edge, and Jackson has the same problem. 22-yard gain.
---
So that's five plays that gain 160 yards. And all five are preventable. AT the very least these plays should have gained a lot fewer yards, and I'm not suggesting they'd have been stuffed, but shut down much sooner.
Biggest offenders on these five plays, to my untrained eye, are Jefferson and Jackson. Jefferson's problem is seemingly letting his eyes cause him to want to cover someone else's responsibility, and Jackson's is an unwillingness to attack the play with any type of physicality. However, there are other guys not making plays or getting out of position too.
Anyway, something has to give. Maybe we have answers on the roster in 41 and 5 that can come in and at the very least provide some motivation for those other guys.

Everything on defense has always been fixable. Big plays are almost always a result of guys going into the wrong gaps or guys not keeping leverage so plays can't go outside. That's been the problem in every defensive lapse. The good news is those issues can be fixed. They have been for Bray Hubbard. They can be for Jackson too. The linebackers, though, have had the same issues for 2 years now. I don't think they'll be solved. I think Pavia is salivating at the thought of coming into BDS and winning and I don't see why he wouldn't be.

Our pass defense is probably the best in the country. I think guys are just used to seeing the opposite so its weird. We only gave up like 120 passing yards.
I think they are super talented, but I always wonder how much of that (or vice versa on occasion) is because the run D is so poor

We drop a few more games due to the defense, I’m pretty sure Greg Byrne will insist several assistants (including Wommack) be “invited to leave” by CKD.

I understand that we don’t have a new defense this year and most of these guys are returning players but last year we saw the defense struggle in the beginning and play much better the second half the season and kept us in games when our offense absolutely tanked. I think their best football is ahead of them and think this weekend will give them a great opportunity to prove it. Let’s relax and see what happens

Are you smoking dope. Defensively Oklahoma was a catastrophe: they ran all over us just like UGA did.

Was it though? They scored 24. 7 of which came off a pick 6. So despite them rushing for 250 they only scored 17 and they only had like 60 yards passing. That defensive performance should win 99% of games if you have a remotely functional offense.

Their offense scored 17 points and 7 of those came off an interception that put them inside the 15 yard line (in addition to the pick six). They ran for a lot of yards, sure, but that loss was on the offense and one player in particular.

I do t have any idea other than a gut feeling, but I think this one ends up not particularly close.

It was not a catastrophe and a lot of trouble that game was an offense that could not stay in the field. LSU has a great defense this year but against Ole Miss who controlled the ball most of the game their defense was worn out second half because the LsU offense was so abysmal.
