This is a big time hire by CKD

I hate it for my jags because Wommack had them playing really good ball.

“Wommack is universally respected within the industry. Amazing DeBoer could pull this off...home run hire.”

As a proud USA alum, I’m happy for Kane.

Bama is gonna have to fight off teams looking to hire him. Any sane USA fan knows it was only a matter of time.

Glad it was bama that got him.

Don’t respond to that troll. He’s only here to stir the pot.

I literally know nothing about this guy aside from scanning his resume. Not questioning the hire at all, but can anyone explain why this is such a great hire?

He coached with DeBoer at Indiana. Over the past two years he has built the roster at USA and brought us into being a serious D1 program.

He’s very highly thought of in the Mobile area and has great relationships with HS coaches.

USA beat the hell out of Oklahoma State and lost by two points to top 25 UCLA. Pretty solid team I’d say.

Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell are going to FEAST in Wommack’s defense. Should also note that his style allows safeties to make a major impacts (Caleb Downs, for example)

He’s not. Some of the guys here were so desperate to hire a “offensive genius” with no baggage that they will hang on the nuts of anyone DeBoer hires.

BTW does anyone know how many scholarship WRs we have left?

Would be a huge pick up. Great guy and knows how to connect with kids in Mobile and surrounding areas. A great recruiter regardless of area. Use to sit in on his recruiting breakfast while I was at South and I use to think to myself I wouldn’t mind playing for him!

Landing Kane Wommack as DC is another big get for Kalen DeBoer. Wommack was Indiana’s DC when it finished No. 12 in the country in 2020, the Hoosiers best season in almost 60 years. He was a finalist for the Broyles Award honoring the nation’s top assistant that year.

Me too!

Under Wommack In 2023, the Jaguars finished 15th in the country in total defense (313.2 yards per game), tied for 26th in scoring defense (21 points per game), 27th in third-down defense (34.1%), 23rd in red zone scoring defense (77.4%) and 18th in stop rate (71.3%) — the percentage of opposing drives that end in punts, turnovers or turnovers on downs.

I try not to argue with people on here.

But you’re 100 percent wrong if you think this is anything other than a grand slam hire at DC.

His defenses at South the last few years have been some of the better Sun Belt defenses. And I do think he’s done a good job as HC.

But tbh his stints at DC have not really been that impressive. I understand he had weaker talent. But Indiana and USA’s defensive numbers with and without him (if you look at the 1-2 years before he was hired and after he left) didn’t really change. Both were mid to below avg within their own conference

Edit: He did have a good season as a DC in 2020. Didn’t see that

Maybe he turns out a good DC hire though. I hope
