Kane Wommack.
Does anyone have any insight into Wommack? I heard positive news on him early but appears he is not the answer as the defense regressed significantly from last year and not just in the secondary but at all 3 levels. Is he capable or was this just a shite hire? I assume he was not the first choice for DeBoer.

We have a 5 game sample size. In the two SEC games I'd give him a D-. F for Vandy and a C- for Georgia. The secondary is not good, and while a lot of that is because of youth, as a DC you have to figure out how to handle that. He didn't have the team prepared at all for Vanderbilt. Not even a little bit. The second half of UGA would also be an F.
I think if Bama struggles or loses against SC this weekend he should legit be fired.

The defense looked shaky against USF, too. Gave up some big plays in the running game. If their quarterback had been more accurate then we absolutely would have lost that game. They had receivers running wide arse open. Our best defensive back is a true freshman. Think about that. The two best players on our entire team are true freshmen.

Agreed and bad against a Wisconsin team that lost its starting QB on the first possession of the game. Had that not happened, they score at least 24 and that game is much closer. Whisky ran easily against the defense for most of the game they just had a limited passing game.
Why was this guy considered? Nobody worth a shite wanted to work for DeBoer?

I don’t know. It’s weird to think about considering the talent that we have in the program. This isn’t Mississippi State. DeBoer could have easily gotten a great defensive coordinator who had actual SEC experience. Wommack has no experience at this level of football and his run at Alabama may be over very soon if he doesn’t have a better showing this week.

Have yall considered at all that the defensive roster is lacking in depth and experience? The best defensive players from last year's team are either in the NFL or playing for other teams right now. Since when has a defense full of true freshman and transfers ever dominated?

They sucked but I more or less expected them to based on what you just said as well as transitioning to an entirely new scheme which they probably aren't 100% with 5 games into the season.

Guys, you can't expect Alabama's defense to handle Vanderbilt. Get real.

Alabama fans have expectations that are too high.

I heard positive news on him early
He had 4 years as a DC. Two at USA and two at Indiana. He had one good year at Indiana but the 3 other years his defenses were ranked middle of the pack or worse in their respective conferences in yards, points, and ypp. People were hanging onto USA having a top 4 defense in the Sun Belt as a HC (not DC) and one good year at Indiana (2020 COVID year in which most Big 10 teams played 6-8 games).

Vanderbilt has a top 3 QB and one of the most effective and most difficult to defend offenses in the SEC

In the SEC its Milroe, Beck and Pavia. In terms of ability to run the teams offense effectively, absolutely

Theyve played 2 top 10 SEC defenses with defenses in the top of of the league and sliced through both of them
