JT ranks #135 in driving accuracy. he hits the fairway 57% of the time.
yet he swings like he’s at a long-drive contest.
it’s killing his game!

He’s top 15 in the world in strokes gained off-the-tee. He probably has a pretty good idea of what he needs to do with a driver.

ETA: Driving accuracy is a terrible statistic anyway. It doesn’t take into account where your ball is “outside the fairway” or how your position relates to the hole. Would you rather be 1’ wide of the fairway in the first cut or 60’ left and stymied behind a tree? Because driving accuracy doesn’t care. You just missed a fairway.

He also ranks in the top 20 in driving distance. Would you rather play an approach shot from 140 yards or 180 yards?

He’s finished 3, 5, 3 in his last three tournament and he’s ranked 7th in the OWGR. He’s a world class ball striker and and one of the best players in the world. He’s absolutely elite. You can’t kill his game.

The only arguable weakness is his putting. He’s actually a really solid putter, but rarely has weeks that he makes significantly more putts than the field. He’s just very consistent and reliable putting across multiple surfaces, so he doesn’t have terrible putting weeks, relative to the field, either.

shite. Why didn’t I think of that? Now that that it’s on my mind though, I think he should just make every putt he attempts too. That would significantly improve his scoring.

It’s because I picked him in my Masters pool.

JT's biggest problem is he is not a great putter from 8-10 feet and doesn't make enough birdies to keep pace with these young guns.

He never seems to do stellar at Augusta. He finished 4th in 2020, but he has no other top 10s there.

I think JT is probably too aggressive to consistently perform well in the majors. Gotta be patient around the course and take your shots when they are there. I feel like he has a birdie mentality on almost every hole. That lends itself to an occasional ridiculous round (-9 at the US Open a few years back) but also a lot of rounds like yesterday.

Scheffler is on fire as well. -5 through 15 for an overall 5 shot lead. Damn.

Heck of a round for JT. Hope he rides that good momentum through the weekend.

It’s Shefflers to lose going into Sunday but Justin is still hanging around just out of reach of the leaders and he could probably get into the top 5 with a good final round.

At some point you would think JT and his father would go search for a putting coach to give them some help. JT is not even average from 8-10 feet putting.
