I think the best option is to win the SEC Championship. It's odd so many people think that's not the best option.

In an act of self-preservation to keep the SEC and Big 10 happy they will not punish a CCG loser. If they do those conferences will take their ball and go home so to speak after next season and do their own thing.

They need us a lot more than we (SEC/Big 10) need them.

CCG are money makers and not going away.

I cannot believe how many people are falling for this narrative that a 3 loss team will automatically get in over a two loss team, just because they lost in a championship game

The B1G and SEC run the playoff and everybody knows it. They run college football. They aren’t going to have their most valuable single commodity, their conference title game, devalued or disincentivized by punishing their losers and especially not by dropping them behind teams from their same contender who didn’t qualify for the title game. If you’ve been paying any attention then you know that to be the case.

So, imagine this scenario:

Alabama wins out
Missouri wins out
Auburn beats TAMU
Kentucky beats Texas
Texas beats TAMU
GaTech beats Georgia

Alabama (10-2) beats Georgia (9-3) in the SECG.

I doubt Georgia goes.

Of course it is, especially the way this bracket is setting up. You want to win the SEC and be the 2 seed nationally. Oregon and Ohio St are going to be 1 and 5 depending on who wins that Big 10 championship game. Winning the SEC puts you in the other side of the bracket from them. Otherwise maybe you’re looking at an 8/9 seed and maybe a path to the championship game of that 8-9 game (which very easily could be another SEC team), Oregon and Ohio St.

Georgia wouldn’t be in the playoff field going into the SECCG in that (nearly impossible) scenario. It wouldn’t be punishing them for losing the SECCG by continuing to keep them out if they lose it.

You are correct. I should have said the safest option is to miss that game. But of course the best option would be to win it.

The only downside to winning the SEC championship game is that you might have to face the same opponent again. If Texas has one loss and makes it to the SEC championship and we were to beat them we could face them again. It’s tough to try and beat the same team in a few weeks.

Absolutely not scared, I just really love the idea of a playoff game at Bryant Denny. Personally, I’d rather have that than an SEC Championship this year, just because I’m bored with the big neutral site games.

2. Alabama wins out and loses the SEC Championship game. Despite what the committee says, I don't trust them to put a 3-loss, conference championship-game losing team in the playoffs.

We will absolutely be in the playoff if we lose the SECCG. I assure you that there is no way Sankey or Petitti is going to let a 2nd place team get left out over a loss in the CG. It just won't happen.

The SEC and B1G basically built this playoff system for themselves and allowed other conferences a spot. You're going to see on average 8 teams from those leagues in every playoff, and I promise you that won't ever exclude a 2nd place team, unless there is absolute chaos some year and an entire conference is shite.

It's not fear, it's strategy. Disregarding the fact that this team could implode at any given time like last year, we used to have a sport where we played games and one where each one mattered, and now we have a sport where the season is a game in itself.

Be careful talking about strategy, some people here don’t understand what that means.

Okay... now does it seem that crazy that we both want a home game and avoid the SECCG?
