I sincerely doubt Saban wants to trust his team to a true freshman again. That said, if Jalen doesn't improve, and the other QB's learn the system, I could see him eventually losing the job. Very unlikely this year though.

Lets just put it this way, if Tua starts be prepared for another full season of a true freshman being a step behind on reads, calls at the line and having general freshman issues throughout the year.

If they go with Tua knowing that's what they are getting then Jalen has really sputtered and we're in trouble.

It's the worst case scenario IMHO.

If Tua is better, how is it we're in trouble? That is, we won 14 games last year, and one second from a national title, with Hurts. The issues with the downfield passing game has been beaten to death, but if Tua is better at that, and Hurts is the 2nd string qb and hasn't regressed, which I am sure he has not, then it seems to me we'd be better that last year.

It is possible that we have another true freshman QB who defies the odds and helps us win. We already did it once, and the assumption would have to be that if Tua is playing he is even better than Hurts was last year. Maybe Tua brings the same ability with his legs that Hurts had (which is one of the areas where age doesn't matter) and is more advanced in the passing game in terms of reads, checks and deep throws.

I just, as a guy who pays too much attention to stats, analytics and odds, can't imagine that we play a true freshman QB in the SEC again and win a national championship. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it. And lets all be honest with ourselves, if we don't win a national championship the season isn't complete, regardless of how silly or crazy that sounds.

That doesn't mean Tua shouldn't play if he is better than Jalen is, he should. My overall point is to me, that is an issue in and of itself for the 2017 season. And we won't have one of the greatest defenses in college football history to shut down everyone outside of Clemson either.

Toward the end of last year the better defenses Bama faced seemed to figure out how to slow down Jalen's running and scrambling. Jalen never did reach the point where he was seeing the entire field in the passing game last year, and when he couldn't run and his passing was ineffective Bama's offense went stagnant.

Bottom line regarding the QB situation: Saban will play whomever protects the ball and gives Bama the best chance to win.

We have seen that Saban isn't afraid to play a true freshman. Whoever is the best come the end of August will play.

You must have gotten downvoted because of the Auburn logo...because the notion of any disagreement on this is just comical.

Come on guys...let me get this right. Some people actually want to sit the guy who was the sec offensive mvp last year who also lead the team on the go ahead drive of the national championship game and start a true freshman who had some good passes against our 2nd team defense?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding some of yall

Jalen's #1 strength last year was his ability to break open a run for 10+ yards several times a game.
With the QB wearing black shirt today, he was unable to show off these skills?

Can Tua do this as well? We don't know.

No chance. I think Tua seems to be solid but Hurts has already proven himself to be a playmaker against the SEC. If the passing improves...and you have to think it will...Hurts is our guy.

I absolutely think the offense needs a set where we are for sure running the football with some misdirection and creativity. This is what Hurts is excellent at and we have the best stable of running backs in the country. I think it would be a great changeup or nail in the coffin type thing.

First, Jalen should start unless he has the turnover yips (fumbles, ints)

That being said. All I heard today was tua against the 2s, well he was playing the with 2s. Jeudy, marks, and Simmons were his targets vs Ridley, Foster, and Sims.

Hope people understand this.

I think it's safe to say that Jalen is improving. He's also gaining confidence.
I agree with the others that Jalen gives us our best shot this year. I also hope that we keep some of the RPO stuff as part of our offense. We torched most of the league last year with simple read option run plays.
That said, I think we could still have a good shot to win a title even if Jalen gets hurt. It's good to have such a solid backup.
