Could have tried any of the other quarterbacks if (14) turnovers were so important that it will preclude you from playing.

14 turnovers in real live games, at that.

Bateman early vs Coker

P. Sims early vs AJ.

GMAC over AJ in 2010.

CNS was going to go with the elder guy no matter how few picks Tua threw in practice.

Hurts as a true freshman started over a junior just last year. That argument died then.

We don't know that. It's conjecture.

And probably just as bad at turning the ball over in practice.

I'm going out on a limb here and say that (14) turnovers in a real live game are just a smidgen more important than a practice.

Boz, in your opinion, based off what you have heard, who is the starter vs Louisville next Fall? Also, do you believe Jalen sticks around if Tua is the starter?

What true dual threat Jr QB did we have last year?

I wish he would transfer today.

Tua will be the starter vs UL.

Bateman vs Coker

They gave Bateman a chance to win the job. He refused to run the offense how they wanted.

Sims early vs AJ.

Open competition. AJ won.

AJ would tell you he probably wasn't quite ready.

They all transferred and none of them could earn a starting slot.

Like a dual threat QB is our MO. Hate to thwart that pathetic backpedaling attempt, but Cooper Bateman ran a 4.59 and demonstrated plenty of ability to be a dual-threat QB.

Plus, you know, there was the whole "McElroy just helped Alabama win a national championship the prior year" thing. Kinda hard to bench that guy.

I don't understand why folks have a difficult time with this. Yes, Tua is a better natural quarterback than Jalen for a pro-style offense, or even an RPO offense.

Saban is a defensive-minded coach. Always has been, always will be. If he were ranking the components of the game, I'd bet you it would look like this:

1) Defense
2) Special teams
3) The sideline injury tent we created and everyone copied
4) Little Debbie snack cakes
5) Offense

Saban wants every offensive possession to end in a kick. That's successful, in his mind.

Reportedly, in practice most of the year, when Tua ran the offense, those possessions didn't end in kicks often enough to suit Saban. Jalen's possessions did.

It's that simple. It's not loyalty to a player, or seniority, or anything else. Saban wants to win, period. He believes winning means minimizing mistakes.

Saban played Tua when he realized Georgia was defeating everything we did on offense, and we had no other answer.

It was like realizing you only have five years until you retire, and your savings aren't where they need to be. If you keep doing what you've done, you won't have enough money. So you invest in a lot of very risky things, knowing you could lose it all ... but if you're lucky, and guess right, you'll be rich.

We guessed right. And got rich.

Baring any crazy things happening (injuries, meltdown, etc) Tua will likely be the starter.

CNS changed his MO to dual threats, didn't you hear?

Bateman was soft.

Try again.

Defense and the running game won it in 2009.

Go back and watch the games we lost in 2010. We lost 3 games with what CNS said after the fact several years later was his most talented team.

Was that like an epiphany, a revelation, realizing that minimizing mistakes doesn't always mean winning, but sometimes, playing the better player actually means winning?

Or is he likely to revert back to the super conservative, minimizing mistakes coach? Because if that happens, the broker that made him all that money is going to abscond with the funds, probably to somewhere with a beach nearby, living the high life. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts is rolling right and throwing away the ball on Saturdays. What a bummer.

Exactly. That's what Saban likes.

The only game we lost in 2010 that we had no shot at was South Carolina, because Garcia had the game of his life. LSU and Auburn (man, ESPECIALLY Auburn) should have been wins.

The one time we were completely healthy in 2010, we blew out Michigan State.

He must not have cared that much 2016 because Jalen Hurts turned the ball over 14 times, and fumbled several others that we were lucky enough to recover.

Who on our roster would have done better in your mind? Is there any doubt Hurts got the start last year because he was essentially the only option and could run away from the pressure.

Most talented, but they had a ton of injuries and deeper problems. The bowl game was the only game where almost everyone was healthy.
