Gotta hope we stay healthy, otherwise we could have some trouble.

Being gassed after 100 plays isn't a reflection on the defense though. To make a point using an extreme example, Lebron/Jordan probably wouldn't play well if they had to run a marathon before starting a NBA game.

By nearly every metric, the Alabama defense dominated an elite offense. Unfortunately for Bama, Clemson's defense just did a very slight better job vs Alabama's offense

My point is the OP says this could be the greatest of all time because of elite players everywhere. There were elite players everywhere in 16 too...and as proof in the 16 NCG it takes more than that to be an all time great.

Dude, we had Jalen freakin Hurts at QB as a true freshman in 16. We were nowhere near elite at QB. Clemson was elite at QB - which is why we lost.

The reason I'm saying THIS team has the potential to be the greatest ever is precisely because of our elite QB.
I agree we've had teams that have been elite pretty much everywhere but QB

That is just an incredibly difficult thing to say or support. I suppose its possible, but we are going to be very inexperienced at a number of positions and depth is a concern in places. Even if these young players step up and play well, "Greatest Team of All Time" seems like a random stretch and tough thing to pull off with how young and thing we are at spots.

I don't see us has having talent well over and above some of the other teams we have seen under Saban - but should be another fun year.

That's because you are about to replace those names with a bunch of new names.

And then in 2 years, you'll be talking about how you don't see those names out there with the new guys.

Because that's the Alabama way.

I think it boils down to what you think about Tua. QB is unquestionably the most important position on a football team. If you believe, like I do, that Tua is the best QB in the country, then coupled with a top 5 defense, we very well could be the greatest cfb team ever.

If you think Tua is just par for the course at QB, then I agree there's no reason to think this will be Saban's best team ever.

Holy moly.

You realize the guy has never started a college football game, right?

I think he's an outstanding talent, but you need to pump the brakes on some of the superlatives you're throwing around.

I think the first team to go 15-0 will automatically go into the annals of CFB history as ARGUABLY the best team ever, regardless of scores and domination and stats, so this team definitely has a shot. There are some definitely blowouts on this schedule as well, so the right playoff matchups could make it happen.

We could also miss the playoffs and this be the worst team in the last 8 years.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to say Fromm and Bentley might be better than tua right now. Some of us need to take off the crimson glasses and realize there are other good players in CFB

Disagree because I think Tua is going to be great, i just think we don't have the same level of defense overall, which also considers depth, as we have had before. Also, while i'm very confident in the OL moving forward, again there are some questions.

Also regarding Tua, I am with the posters above in that despite everything looking great you still have to wait and see what happens. He has an incredible arm and delivered one of the most legendary performance the national title game, but he still had freshmen moments. Hard to say exactly what is going to happen with any qb once they have the full reigns, teams get some film on him, etc. - so can't go so far as to say Tua is hands down going to be the best qb in the league next year.

Ok fine, you guys can shy away from optimism all you like. My ONLY concern is with injuries, hence the title of the thread. If we stay healthy, I see no possible way we lose to anyone, and as the above poster noted, the first 15-0 team would have to be considered among the best ever...

Hell, even Georgia fans are more optimistic than you folks. They think we're the only team in the country that can beat them, and I tend to agree

I think everyone realizes how hgood we can be ...But as u said health....More importantly health at QB and DL are imperative to this team reaching its potential. Also have to find leaders , which I think Mack Wilson will be one we can look to but more will be needed.

Where do you people come up with this garbage? Not unreasonable to say Fromm is better? I think they faced off head-to-head and it was pretty fricking clear who was better

I mean what does the kid have to do to prove it to you? We've seen him face the toughest situation that he will ever face at Alabama, in the most pressure-packed moment possible, and he played on a historic level.
What's left for him to prove? Beating up on the teams that Jalen was able to beat? Ok wait till the fall

Lock is expected to be a 1st round pick next year as well.

Patterson could be a top 5 pick.
