re: If we decline further it will be because we held onto Golding too long

I know one thing, I don't think we are getting rid of Golding. I feel like it would have happened by this point. I think he is Saban's golden child and Saban has a strong belief that he will be a great defensive coordinator. I think he gets a pass from Saban because of the injuries.

Oh certainly, I verbally look down my nose at folks sometimes when I post, and do it purposefully and with clear knowledge of doing so. However, I still encourage each and every poster to express himself however he or she wants, and I'd never repeatedly copy paste another person's words as my own.

In this thread, Surge repeatedly copy pasted my words as his own, and additionally tried to insinuate that he had the correct formula for answering his question, rather than allowing me to answer it as I see fit. I see both of those activities as worthy of derision, and stated it directly.

I like Surge, but he gets transfixed on me every now and then for a page or 2 in some threads. I'm not sure why, but it is what it is. Nonetheless, I enjoy his contribution to this forum and enjoy our discussions.

I don't know if this is true.

But I do think Saban sees many positives that we don't, and I think everyone in the athletic facilities is keenly aware of the ramifications of the injuries in 2019.

Having said that, if Jimmy Lake would have taken the job, Golding might very well have been unemployed or demoted.

I do want to say one more thing:

I know my posting style is a lightning rod for criticism, and it's fine. I'm aware of it. But I frequently do this for a reason.

Using this topic as an example, such a large vocal part of this board is so convinced that Golding is garbage and should be drug through the streets and shot, that it dominates the board and its discussions. Well, some posters disagree, and want to disagree, but don't want to bear the brunt of the board's anger at them for disagreeing.

Well, I'm choosing to be everybody's huckleberry. I can take the heat, and I can take folks getting mad at me for disagreeing strongly. And in doing so, I take the heat away from some other posters who just want to say their small disagreement and do it without being jumped on, thereby creating an avenue for opinions to be expressed that might not otherwise have been expressed.

I'm not saying any of this to act like some martyr or any bullshite like that, but rather to let some posters know why I push certain buttons the way I do. Sometimes the pendulum of discussion needs to swing back hard the other way in order to find the middle, and I like being that guy. It's nothing personal to anyone here, and sometimes it serves a beneficial purpose for the board.

What does Derrick Ansley have that PG doesn't have?
- Proven defensive coordinator at the (upper) SEC level;
- Proven ability to execute a Jeremy Pruitt style defense (aka a Bama defense);
- Proven and extensive knowlegde of, as well as experience and affinity with a Saban-style Alabama Standard defense;
- Proven elite position coach.

I'd much rather see him take over as Bama's DC right NOW than wait a full year to see whether Golding has what it takes. I mean: why not?

Off topic, but I find the Pruitt infatuation around here funny. Sure, he was a great DC, don't get me wrong - but under Saban, at minimum 2 of our best 3 and 3 of our best 4 defenses were coordinated by Kirby Smart. Yes, Kirby had gotten away from the blitz his last few years at Bama and Pruitt brought back a little of the heat, and of course Smart left Bama like a dick, which soured many Bama fans on him. However, taken on the whole, Smart should be remembered as he better of the 2 coordinators when splitting hairs and taking into account each man's full resume.

Fans are the ones who are unsure of what Golding is and will be, but Saban is not. How about we trust the GOAT coach to manage his house as he has always done, i.e. better than anyone who ever lived, and support each member of the team?
