Sims will do alright, as long as he can remember what the play is, long enough to actually finish the play.

Incredibly stupid fumble because of running the wrong play.

Yeah, Sims looked poised when he called the wrong plays in the huddle, had to have Kiffin call timeout so he wouldn't get a delay of game, is a fifth year senior in the same system who has to have the offensive coordinator spoon feed him the plays, hands off when he should have passed, etc. But, like you said, he hasn't looked shaky at all
That's a harsh view man. I'm just looking at his on field performance.

So we're pretending that A-day never happened? Cool.
Uh, yes. The A-Day game? Come on man. Spring training is nothing like the fall. Lots of basic and conditioning.
quote:

I wouldn't say terrible. How would Sims or any other quarterback look if he was playing his first snaps after being away from football for ten months due to injury?
You know, excuses for the performance don't really matter. Only the performance matters. I could just as easily say "How would you feel you were a converted runningback and all of a sudden had to start at QB against West Virginia in the Georgia Dome?

Did Saban announce that the quarterback competition is officially over? I must have missed that.
There is no official quarterback competition, aight? Saban is gonna play whichever particular personnel give us the best chance to succeed respective to that particular situation, aight?

I had quickly edited my prior post so it didn't sound so rude.

I am giving him leeway, I just don't believe Sims has been as awful as some of you want to believe. I think Coker will be a very good QB. Should be the man when that time comes. Some people just seem intent on pointing out Blakes flaws to boost Coker, who hasn't proved anything. I think we should keep an eye on Coker and hope he stays ready in case Blake shows he isn't the man for the job.

Don't know. I was pointing out that his performance hasn't been flawless like others were claiming. The only time that I've said Sims was awful was the two a-days.

His play so far has been solid. What he can do he does very well, but I'm questioning if what he can do is enough to win the title.

I swear with some you have to toe the BOL/TideFans company line. God forbid anyone criticize anything except for Coker's play.

I think it has more to do with the fact that 2 games in, Blake has shown he is the better QB. Coker will get more reps vs Southern Miss to help prove himself and maybe he will, but I think the fact that Saban left Blake in during the West Virginia game speaks volumes. Had Coker been able to compete in the spring, things may be different. Blake has the experience edge over Jake and if he turns out not to be the man, I will be one of the first ones to admit I was wrong. I like Jake, I also like the hot hand which is Blake right now.

I'd say he's been a little beyond solid. Besides the INT against WVU, he has been exceptional. Completing 76% of his passes, regardless of the competition, is impressive.

He's done good with what he's been asked to do. The objection is can he do enough to win a title? That's the issue that this argument boils down to not that Sims looks bad.

This. All day. If Sims looks solid against UF and on the road against Ole Miss then I'll be a lot less worried about Sims leading our offense. The problem is that we are about to face what should be one of the best sec defenses and I'm not sure we've seen enough of Sims stretching the field to put my mind at ease.

So after 1/4 of the sec schedule he'll have proven himself? Way to go out on a limb there.

I think it's fair because each game represents different challenges, and it will be interesting to see how he responds. UF has a suffocating defense and Ole Miss will be his first road game. Or I could crown him as tGOAT like some after playing two poor defenses.

No one is crowning him tGOAT. But at some point you've got to let go of the perception of him that was formed by 2 bad A-day performances. I know, that's something I've struggled with too. But we've now seen a lot more of him in actual games than those 2 spring games and this BS doesn't even resemble that one.

Sims's major defect is accuracy. His strengths - mobility, footwork, decision-making, and pocket presence combined with Kiffin's playcalling and our fantastic line, RB's, and WR's - more than make up for this defect in my view. It certainly has so far. He doesn't have to be Peyton Manning. He just has to be Alabama's "game manager"

But will that Sims return when facing a legit defense? I think it's safe to say that our first three games are against the worst defenses we will face this year outside of WCU especially with WVU not having one of their starting cornerbacks.

It's certainly possible that Sims will return. One thing that is absolutely certain is that he will struggle at least a few times this season. Every QB does. Have to wait and see how he responds.

Zero. But not for lack of accuracy. Jones dropped the bomb Sims threw to him against West Virginia and dropped the 28-yard pass Sims threw to him yesterday.

He's not very accurate, but as I've stated he is very well-coached and knows how to err on the side of caution. I don't even know what your point is - that he is accurate or that he has some other bigger defect.

Sims is very accurate, that's hit point. The actual major defect Sims seemingly has right now is arm strength but we don't know that for sure because we haven't seen enough of those throws to gauge it accurately.

He has made some very accurate passes including a few for deep. He has made some not so accurate passes, some bad passes, even on a few short little routine hitches.

He's neither highly inaccurate nor highly accurate. That's all I meant. Not sure why we have to take one extreme or the other, instead of seeing it for what it is.
