It seemed like Hilinski had all day to get rid of the ball when we dropped eight in coverage. I guess the youth at linebacker may be the reason for the conservative play calling.

At least a couple of those 3 man rush plays were mistakes by the defense. One in particular, SC had a guy drag across the middle and both freshmen LBs covered him like it was their guy and only 3 rushed. I doubt the scheme called for a drag route to get double coverage

Saban pretty much confirmed that afterwards

Yep. I think the staff was confident that the offense could score pretty much at will and did not want to take a chance. It worked too. The one thing I was glad to see was that the secondary kept everything in front of them and never got beat deep. I don’t remember a guy ever even being open deep.

Not that my opinion matters but I think we were too simplified on defense. I hate a 3 man pass rush on third down. I hated it when Kines graced the sidelines. It wasn't a prevent but it was too soft. You have to affect the quarterback in today's game.

Was it the youth in the linebackers that caused it to be called over and over vs Clemson as well?

Our DC sucks is my take. Everyone thought it was Tosh, but then after finding out Golding called the NCG, I just think we don't have a good DC.

Fire/Demote Tosh

This thread was after the NCG.

Then we find out Golding called that game, and he's announced as the DC for this year and nobody seems to notice.

No the secondary was bad and we had no edge rushers left.

The only thing that sucks here is your take

There is no secondary that is going to perform well without the front 7 putting pressure on the QB. The secondary should only have to cover for a few seconds, not 7+.

Rushing 3 is just asking for trouble. If you don't put pressure on the QB, then the QB is going to put pressure on your secondary.

I thought that was mostly about containing some QB's, but still wanting to "affect the QB".

I just know it sure does seem like the longer the play lasts, the higher chance it's going to end badly for our defense.

He elected to “cover” a lot as well against regular teams as well. We were more aggressive under Pruitt

Maybe Pruitt will get fired and we are able to bring him back.

Because Golding ain’t it
