That network hates Alabama football so much. Every time you turn it on, they are trashing our program and fueling the DeBoer rumors.

There's a really simple fix to that.

Aside from live sports, ESPN hasn't had a thing on their network worth watching in years.

I mean, they have that crazy a-hole Taylor Lewan and Josh Pate on Get Up now. That network is utter garbage.

We should tell them the next time they want to send GameDay to campus to pound sand.

I absolutely agree. I love that Coach Saban is on the crew now but keep that circus and distraction away from our team.

What they’ve realized is trashing Bama sells.

Look at the ratings anytime we’re tied or trailing in a football game going back the last 15 years.

In a divided media landscape there is a universal and that’s the one thing that will bring in eyes from across the B10 and SEC is playing to the resentment of the success we had here under Saban.

Absolutely correct and I also believe that politics plays a role in the hatred. National media hates the state because it’s a majority republican state. The majority of national media are liberal. Some people might be afraid to say that but I will. If success was the reason to hate a program, then the media would hate Georgia and Ohio State, too. But they are treated very differently by the media. Because they’re more progressive states.

I think it is really simple:

Michigan hasn't hired anyone and they think they deserve the best coach who is gettable on the market and everyone thinks that is DeBoer. This shite won't stop until Alabama has a signed deal to report or Michigan has hired someone else.

I used to watch sportscenter all the time in high school and college but I haven't watched ESPN aside from live sports in probably 15 years.

Once they started discussing politics instead of sports I said frick them.

I can’t believe you people still watch it. Why?

It’s probably been 15 years since I watched ESPN for anything but live sports. I stopped once Skip and Steven A became what they wanted everyone to be; performative and ridiculous.

Here’s what I do: If it’s Alabama sports, I watch live on ESPN. If it’s another sporting event that I want to watch then I pirate it even though I have cable because I’m a hater and I don’t want them to get ratings

If you think it's bad now, just imagine what it'll be like if we lose tomorrow night

I dont see how a lot of you all make through the trials of life...getting wrapped around the axle on the words of a commentator.

They went cheap. The Sportscenter anchors used to have great individual personalities and made watching sports highlights an entertaining experience. But they don't pay them crap, so the good ones went elsewhere. That plus all the highlights being on our phones within 3 or 4 minutes of them happening kind of made the show irrelevant/unwatchable. Now it's all milquetoast anchors doing the highlights (when they have them) and blowhards with hot takes looking for something to clip and put on social media.

If you're a producer how do you maximize ratings?

You lock in two of the top 5 biggest brands in CFB in a drummed up coaching search narrative involving both schools even if the evidence doesn't support that storyline anymore.

They freely trash us so I’m going to trash them right back. I don’t care how much money they’re paying us through the TV contract.

I watch live sports and gameday on ESPN and thats it.

Sometimes Ill get stuck at a bar or getting a haircut or something where its on and my immediate thought is "how does anyone watch this by choice?".

Its like watching political news all day, no thanks. Any Bama related news I need I can get immediately here or on social media without ESPN dramatizing it and drawing out a 5 second blurb for hours being presented by people who don't know what they're talking about and half the time don't even mean what they say.

People like to assume malice then bake-in some other grievances they imagine that have nothing to do with the specific issue. I tend to look at it more like you do. I will say I believe people like Heather Dinich - who basically immediately ignored Alabama and DeBoer's statement on the matter and rekindled it - has a bit of an agenda as an Indiana alum. Because of Alabama's reputation over this century, she's probably a bit more afraid of her alma mater playing Alabama in a Rose Bowl game than Oklahoma. However, she is basically the CFP press secretary at this point in her career so whatever she's saying is a green lit narrative from ESPN.

I agree ESPN is playing this up at the expense of Alabama but it is just business as you pointed out.

Disney has decided that broadcasting rights and IP ownership is more important than talent and it propagates throughout their various holdings including ESPN. Around a decade ago, ESPN decided they rather own as much live sports as possible rather than have good reporting and prognostication talent. There are a few people they are wedded to like SAS, Kirk, Fowler, but almost everyone else is expendable. And to be frank, I don't disagree with that play considering the landscape of television: people were only subscribing to cable to watch live sports and people are only subscribing to their over-the-top streaming services for the locked-in live sports content (our yearly worst OOC opponent in football for example).
