This board is about as bad as BOL now with the sunshine pumpers and dislike of the truth.

Perhaps not much of a consolation, but Bama still typically makes the playoffs and sometimes even the title game in rebuilding years.

Exactly. I said this in the Rant game thread yesterday. Our offense is Tua and 4 future NFL first or early round WRs. We couldn’t punch it in on the ground from inside the 10 against Duke or SC. Stuffed multiple times.

I really think I should be able to downvote a post every time I open the thread instead of just once.
Other than that, I have a 2 word response:

No. I think it's just that we realize championships aren't won or lost in September. Unlike the NFL, these kids don't get to go through a preseason to hammer out the kinks before starting real play. If we're still having these problems in the second or third week in October....THEN we will talk.

exactly. There have been other championship seasons that UA fans were making similar comments after the first few games.

I was checking our recent years early season SEC games. The 2015 Bama defense 3rd game gave up 43 to Chad Kelly & Ole Miss & that team went on to win it all with Jacob Coker at Qb. It is early so hopefully adjustments, better tackling, younger guys gaining experience will pay off moving forward.

All your points are noteworthy, good thing the championships games aren't for a few more months. I trust Saban to get it right.

I trust Saban to TRY to get it right and do as much as he can with what he's got. Not even the GOAT can take a bunch of 18 year olds and create a rock solid defense overnight. Unfortunately, we've had a series of circumstances that have created some pretty massive adversity. The injuries at key positions combined with the recruiting misses at some of those same positions have created some gaps that are glaringly obvious and depth has taken a hit across the board. We'll do the best we can and next man up, but my expectations for this team aren't what they were in June.

This is definitely not a championship team as it sits, but Tua and the offense is good enough to keep us in any game. If they score more than the D gives up you never know where it will end up. Remember Auburn's 2010 team was a 7 win team but one amazing athlete put them just BARELY over the top every week. Tua isn't cam but he's got a great arm and we have three NFL level receivers. As long as they are healthy we have a chance against anybody.

This will be true if the OL allows him to stay on his feet and provide adequate run blocking. We are probably younger than we've been on the OL during the last 10 years.
Take a look at this year's starters and see which, if any, starters from the previous years these guys compare favorably to.
LT, Leatherwood:...A. Smith, Carpenter, B. Jones, C. Kounadijo, C. Robinson, J. Williams. A list full of All-Americans and first round draft picks. Leatherwood was 2nd team All-SEC last year and was 1st team pre-season this year. Maybe he gets to the level of his last 6 predecessors, but he's not there yet.
LG: Neal:...M. Johnson, Warmack, A. Kounadijo, Cotton, Pierschbacher. Neal is a freshman, so it's not fair to compare him to the guys on this list. But in past years when we had a young guy on the OL, he was probably playing next to an All American or a future first or second-round draft pick. Is Neal?
C, Owens:...A. Caldwell, Vlachos, B. Jones, R. Kelly, Bozeman. We've been blessed at center for a decade. Owens isn't even in the discussion with three All-Americans and another guy who played in 14 NFL games last year. Even Vlachos was first-team all-SEC and a Rimington finalist.
RG, Dickerson:...M. Davis, B. Jones, Steen, A. Taylor, Pierschbacher, Cotton
RT, Wills:...D. Davis, Fluker, A. Shepherd, D. Jackson, J. Willilams, Womack
The right side of the line has usually been the weaker, but Jones, Pierschbacher, Williams, and Fluker were All Americans and/or played or still play in the NFL. Even Steen had several NFL starts. Marlon and Drew Davis were both pretty good players, especially when playing alongside the All Americans they played with.
Since 2008, there hasn't been a year where we didn't have at least one, and usually multiple All-Americans and/or eventual NFL first or second-round draft picks.
if you want to discuss if this is a championship team, you have to address the OL. Look at all the All-Americans and NFL players we've had in the past, often 2 or 3 on the same line. Right now we might have one All-SEC first teamer. Kyle Flood has his work cut out for him, and as I read his bio, I don't see any mention of A-A or NFL OLs he developed, or really any significant discussion of his experience in that area.

We thought the same thing after the 2015 Ole Miss game. Looking back now, there are times where I think that could have been the best team under Saban.
The 2015 team didn’t appear to be anything special until LSU game. After the defense shut down Fournette and Henry chewed up the last 9:00 of game time by running it down LSU’s collective throats, I knew Bama had a chance to be a special team. Hopefully there will be a similar coming out party for this team.

I thought that the OLine looked fine for the most part on Saturday. They looked to be improved at least. Obviously still not a great unit, but I am optimistic in their development.

Are you basing that on the success of the running game?

I think that the running game is good enough considering what we do to teams with our passing.

To be fair how many crazy weird plays did ole miss benefit off in that game? The difference in this USC game is they mainly just had long effective drives. That doesn’t inspire much confidence going forward.

What other teams across the country do you think are "championship teams"?
Posted on 9/16/19 at 5:11 pm to Kcstills17
We played a less than stellar game and gave up plenty of yards again to Ole Miss in 2016. I think we allowed another 400+ yard passing game to Chad Kelly that year. That 2016 Bama team turned out alright.
That team did not win the national championship, but I think its fair to say they were a "championship team".

For sure I think that 2016 team is still our best overall team. They got shredded pretty good against ole miss. I’d love for this defense to improve and I think it’s likely the LBs will improve vastly and especially the tackling. Our front when it comes to pass rushing and our blitzing though is just so ineffective currently. We are flat out terrible at getting pressure and that is going to have to improve massively. South Carolina couldn’t even block UNC well and they stone walled us.
