Other fanbases will laugh at this, but in this case it's true. Only Bama will beat Bama in Dallas.
If the Tide comes out expecting to win and plays nonchalant, a la 2014, it will be a grind. Brian Kelly is the best coach we're going against this year.
Absolutely can't overlook this game and just go through the motions.

Agreed. I don’t think it will be the bludgeoning that 2012 was because this ND is a little more capable and with our defense, they will score more than garbage points.

That said, if this version of Alabama loses to Ian Book or allows it to be 60 minute shootout, then I need to start finding other hobbies.

Quick summary:
1. Commit 100 percent to stop N. Harris on the ground.
2. Put a man over the top to stop Smitty.
3. Get pressure on Mac since they are confident Mac isn't a runner and goes down easily. T

All 3 of these are in conflict with each other. This is like saying we want to hit deep throw TDs, the running game scoring inside the red zone, and punt inside the 5 every time. That’s our plan to beat ND.

That A&M performance was far from great but they still held them to well below their average in terms of points, yards, and ypp. I’d considered it a massive accomplishment if any of these defenses the past 3 years held the 3rd ranked offense in the nation to 29 points. Just the following year, that 2013 defense gave up 42 points and 600+ yards to A&M.

I rewatched the 2012 game vs. A&M last night. That game gave me flashbacks of the Ole Miss game this year. Many times, we had Manziel bottled up on third down and he somehow got away and made a miracle pass/scramble to keep drives alive - very similar to Corral this year in the OM game.

The big difference in 2012 was that our defense actually got a good amount of key stops, especially in the second half, to give us a chance to win. Manziel made an All-American LBer in Mosley look silly sometimes. And Mike Evans had his way with John Fulton the entire game.

The 2020 DL is much more talented than 2012, so are the OLBs. The 2012 ILB play was significantly better than what we have in 2020. The secondary is probably a push.

I feel like that 2012 A&M game needs to be taken in context at times. Our heads were still in Baton Rouge for that 1st Quarter. Not discounting A&M though because they were playing as good as anyone in the country at that point.

I still blame Nussmeir for that game. We should’ve really leaned on Lacy and that running game, especially when we had a chance to punch it in at the end. Nuss really was awful and was propped up by arguably the most balanced offense we’ve had up until this year. I’m convinced someone took the headset away from him in the 2nd half of the UGA game.

Yikes. Predicting 6-10 sacks on Mac.

I think he makes some good points. I think Alabama will struggle on defense against Notre Dame and give up 30-40 points in the game. This will probably look like the Clemson vs. Notre Dame played in South Bend where Clemson had some key defensive players out.
Clemson lost containment of Ian Book a number of times in that game. They also struggled to cover the Notre Dame TEs in the passing game. Clemson lost 40-34.
I could see the Alabama defense looking like Clemson's in that first game. Can Notre Dame hold Alabama to under 40 points?
I don't think so but how does the loss of Landon Dickerson impact this game?

Anything about stopping our offense ain’t gonna happen so it ain’t worth talking about. You beat us by getting in a shootout and hope we make 1 more mistake than you do. Point Blank.

This. Attempting to keep Bama down to under 30 points is impossible.

That and we had Kirby Smart. Smart had some gaffes through his career here but he still was a pretty good defensive coordinator. He was able to make the adjustments. A&M caught the defense off guard but after the first quarter they got clamped down mostly. They gave up 9 points through the remaining 3 quarters.

Also ILB play is huge. You’re not going to have a great defense if your ILB play is weak and they look just as lost as everyone else.

I still think 2012 is better. One unit may appear to be better than the other but I still prefer the defense that had remnants (or leftovers if you want to call it that) of the great 2011 defense.

As I said, no way does the 2020 defense hold 2012 A&M to 29 points. We have given up more to lesser offenses this year. 2020 may be better at one particular position or two but not as a whole.

That Manziel team would have went wild on the 2020 defense but the 2020 Bama offense would have scored a ton on them so it's probably a wash.

Just comparing defenses but yes I do agree 2020 Bama outscores 2012 A&M big-time

How about 2012 A&M (but with Von Miller) against our 2011 team?

Just imagine, if this defense had someone half the player C.J. Mosley is? His coverage skills were top notch.

Notre Dame will try and play Bama ball (the early Saban years version). I think they will have success, at least early on. Inside linebacker play is atrocious this year, and Moses shies away from contact. Not a good combo.

Alabama will beat Notre Dame. The bigger problem comes with playing the next game, which will require Bama to be perfect against Clemson, if they beat Ohio State. If the offense isn't perfect, Bama loses, because a Golding defense isn't championship-level. It is what it is at this point. I don't see another outcome other than Golding playing a large role in Bama losing two titles in three years, which featured two of the most productive offenses in the program's history.

College football has changed, but Golding is not the answer for Alabama. Three years is long enough. The coordinator position at this point under Saban shouldn't be a learning experience.

I am fully prepared to see at least one blitz from the nosebleed section in the next two games. Would be sad, but on point.

Wasn’t just his coverage skills. Mosley was a pretty smart player. Even his NFL coaches raved about his football IQ.

Holy schmokes they are brutal to each other. Our board looks like a Kumbaya Board compared to theirs. Have been reading some of their posts, one of their posters mention that ND's OL is very similar to Kentucky's. Is this a fair comparison?

PFF regarding ND's OL
quote:

With players such as Liam Eichenberg, Robert Hainsey, Jarrett Patterson, Aaron Banks and Tommy Kraemer, it is no surprise Notre Dame’s offensive line is the third-highest-graded unit in the country at 92.5, behind only Buffalo (97.0) and BYU (93.0).

The unit is the only one in the playoff that boasts a top-10 pass-blocking grade (84.2) as well as a top-10 run-blocking grade (94.3).

Eichenberg, Patterson and Banks have yet to allow a sack this season, with the entire group allowing just four on the year, fifth-fewest among FBS O-lines with over 300 pass-blocking snaps. They are no slouch in the running game either, allowing their running backs to gain 1,052 rushing yards before contact, third-most in the Power Five this season.
