Ok. Burrow made about as much of a leap from year 1 to year 2 at lsu as a player can make. You think Milroe can do that? When he can't throw a slant now? Or a swing pass?

Penix is a qb. Milroe is a running back.

Yea, you can find my posts earlier in the year where I said I didn't think that Milroe was a good QB and had issues between the ears.
I'll call him out when he deserves it. I do think he can be coached up and learn.
He was a new QB with a new OC with a Freshman LT and Center snapping the ball at his ankles. It throws off the timing of the play.
If he had all the time in the world and was missing reads/throws. I'd say it's on Jalen

Well he has been thru fall practice 3 times, three spring drills and 3 summer drills in his stay at Bama. It's just a few more sessions and it all could just snap in place for him.

The center was a senior, too. Some guys just don't get better. Especially if they're playing in the wrong position.

Throwing a pass to a WR on the sideline, like the pass to Bond you pointed out, may be hitting him in stride, but it isn’t the same thing as throwing a WR open. When you do that the WR usually gets YAK yardage. I suspect you already know this. Milroe isn’t garbage, but he’s not elite on the level with Bryce, Mac and Tua. At least Hurts knew when to pull it and run and had the speed and strength to escape defenders and break tackles. Milroe has neither, his speed is hyped and he’s not elusive.

Are we comparing practice to actual games? They aren't comparable. We've had some folks that have been all practice but don't execute during the games because of emotions, etc.

I have my doubts Milroe can be the QB Alabama needs to be an effective offense in 2024. I believe the only reason Alabama was able to make Milroe work was a continuous stream of teams that thought the best strategy against this offense was to take away the deep throws and contain Milroe with mush rush and spies. Michigan took the approach Alabama had not seen probably five games and it resulted in a performance more like the early season offense.
Milroe has a big problem with processing defenses. Some of it may be a lack of confidence in his technique to hit windows. Some of it is the man just not having a great idea of what the defense is trying to do pre-snap so he's not even making rational progression reads. It is hard for me to know since I don't have the playbook or game plan adjustments. I do know from my All-22 seat at home games that he routinely missed open receivers that better quarterbacks would have likely recognized. He's just not what I'd expect from 3rd year QB in their 14th game as a starter.
If Sayin or Simpson has a great Spring and Milroe doesn't make marked improvement, QB should be considered a real open competition in the Summer and Fall. Right now I feel like Milroe is a better version of Marcus Randall from Saban's LSU tenure.

I don’t think his speed is hyped. When he gets into another gear he’s pretty damn fast. Agree about the escapability and elusiveness. That’s mental and instinctive. Not sure if he can develop that in an off season.

Now we are saying that Milroe isn't elusive and doesn't have speed?

He may have reached his ceiling.
He's not nearly as good as he thinks he is.

I'm assuming you were one of the ones that said the same thing after the Texas game.

He has speed and elusiveness in the open field when he’s running north/south and during QB runs sometimes, but not when a play breaks down. Part of being a mobile QB is being able to use your speed and elusiveness when the play breaks down, and he can’t even see the play breaking down fast enough to get away. A mobile QB that gets sacked 5 times in a game ain’t mobile. You can say he’s elusive and fast all you want, but he ain’t elusive enough or fast enough to be successful as a mobile QB and we all know he isn’t good enough to be a pocket passer.
Dude was good for us this year as a stop gap til someone better steps into that role, but for the love, it’s time to move on from this dude.
Bottom line, his play yesterday DID NOT remotely come close to letting all the “naysayers” know…unless he was intending to let them know he’s really not that good of a QB.

We will not win a natty with Milroe at QB.

Correct, we might be able to win another SEC championship, and we can make the playoffs, but that’s it. That’s the ceiling.

We've recruited at the highest level possible for 15 years, and somehow we were stuck with starting a 6 year project at the most important position on the field. There's really no excuse for it.

First, his arm strength isn't as good as Penix.
Second, he doesn't see the field like Penix.
Third, he doesn't have the receivers or offensive line as Penix.
Finally, he doesn't have a center like penix

Why are people talking about "throwing people open" when the biggest deficiency is not responding properly when protection breaks down?
9 out of 10 plays, throwing down field was not an option.
What is a qb supposed to do when protection breaks down?
Shouldn't there always be an option or two? Back in the flat, quick out? Something that can be completed in the 1.5 seconds He actually has.
It's the negative plays that lost the game. Not the lack of leading recievers.
Why focus on the irrelevant?

Watch all the film he can.
The guy isn't dumb just needs a good qb coach.
