How important was this South Carolina game?

I feel it was a great early test even if it got us some good calls here and there. SCAR was really physical and some young guys got crucial experience in crunch time situations.
Hats off to SCAR. They got a physical team but jury is still out on Boom to be honest. I do commend him for understanding what only about 2 other teams in America seem to get that you just gotta take all the chances you can when playing Alabama.

Hilinski was impressive for a TF in his second start. He could play like a tire fire for the rest of the season but at this moment it looks like USCe upgraded.

I think it was important in that it showed we're going to have to score a lot of points against good teams this year to win.

I think all in all our early schedule is just about perfect for the situation we are in on defense.
A solid test with a great coach right off the bat in Duke. A gimmee game week 2. A road game against a decent and athletic team in week 3. Another gimmee game (slightly upgraded) in week 4. A game against a decent in conference team week 5. A bye week week 6. First big test Week 7.
It might not get them right, but I don't think it could line up much better in terms of learning and then implementing and then learning and them implementing, all while being able to build a bit of confidence along the way.

Champ the chump said in his post-presser that he wasn't into moral victories. Yet, I just watched his only healthy hope at QB get beat up twice on that final drive and he decided it was still a great thing to continue to play him against our bench and get that last score. The living definition of a moral victory.
