That’s insane. The lineman who did that should be kicked off and possibly face criminal charges. There’s no reason for something like that to happen even in a football practice when things can get heated. The head coach needs to get control over the situation quickly.

Good. Those two guys have no place mentoring young men.

Now that’s a chicken shite low class thing to do.

No possibly about it. That's assault. That dude should insist on charges being filed.

They will almost certainly find other coaching jobs and be just fine.
The kids on Hoover's team will be the only ones who see any real negative consequences from this, unfortunately. For this year, at least. I'm hoping they can still put together a decent season but I don't see how.

That’s a sad state of affairs if either of them get coaching jobs anywhere at any level for many years. I have no problem with a coach yelling at a kid or even using some profanity but I have a real problem with a coach laying hands on a kid or humiliating him in front of his teammates.

Rush Propst found jobs for years. These guys will have no problem finding jobs.

Rush won state titles on a regular basis. This other guy not so much. But the desire to win is so great that someone will hire them. Just ask Pell City

He won a state title in 6A last season while going undefeated and beating Thompson in a regular season game. It's why he got the Hoover job. LINK
quote:
Gilmer comes to the Bucs after serving as the head coach at Clay-Chalkville High School since 2017. During that span, the Cougars went 81-12 and won Class 6A state titles in 2021 and 2023, with both those championship teams finishing undefeated. Clay-Chalkville won the last three 6A, Region 6 championships and Gilmer amassed a 20-5 playoff record with the Cougars.
ETA: I'm sure it won't happen this season, but I find it hard to believe this dude will have any problem finding another job. Meanwhile, Hoover's interim coach is the OC they had last season who was kept on this season for continuity purposes. The football players are the only ones actually being punished here.

I don’t care if Propst was the love child of Coach Bryant and some kind of genius and I don’t care how many championships he won. The guy was just a horrible person on and off the field.
Any school that hires him is making a Faustian Deal.

here’s the thing though: the football players aren’t the only ones being punished here. it’s just objectively untrue no matter how much you flail around and say it. in fact, back here on planet earth, they aren’t being punished at all.
meanwhile the coaches lost their jobs. the boosters and school district also face potential lawsuits, so they’ll get their punishment soon enough.

in fact, it’s the opposite of a punishment to remove an abusive shithead from a situation where he would be allowed to further abuse them.
you’ve completely lost the plot.

why would the boosters get sued?

I have a customer that's a HS DC. He said this was by no means Gilmer's first rodeo with abusive behavior. Apparently other parents from past schools are starting to sing.

So the boosters are responsible and going to get sued. Didnt you say they are open for being sued along with the school system. I doubt a booster vetted the HC without being part of the approved process by the board.
Posted on 8/13/24 at 7:42 am to mrbroker
All he told me is what I posted. This is not Gilmer's first incident of inappropriate behavior and other parents have come forward.

Sorry, another person said boosters might be sued. Which still begs the question to anyone out there why they could be sued if they are just boosters?

It's really weird that he keeps getting jobs, no doubt about it.

Well sure they are. They had an opportunity for a pretty good season, and now that opportunity is gone. That's a punishment for the kids who put in the work no matter how you want to view it.
It's just like when the NCAA puts a school on probation over a coach who is long gone. That does nothing to the coach. In this situation, I don't think a full investigation was even completed. The coach resigned and now there's no coach and the season is over before it starts. Gilmer will move on and find a coaching job, likely without any issue, and Hoover probably won't find the same level of coach after this season because who wants to worry that every possible thing they do during football practice will be scrutinized to this level?

They might settle to prevent a costly trial and discovery, but beyond that there's not going to be enough there for this to be anything. The guy didn't coach a single game.
The boosters don't have enough money for suing them to even make sense. They also have zero control over the football program.
