There's probably more truth in this than anyone wants to admit. Milroe turned us into the 'influencer team'. Hard to undo...

On paper we have great talent but player development has been going downhill since the late Saban era.

I don’t follow why other programs can win without a hard arse, but we can’t.

It's like people who say our players aren't invested due to NIL, which could be partially true (especially given how bad UGA looked last year), but Ohio State doesn't seem to be skipping a beat.

Number 1, he would get crucified if he was recruiting like that. Number 2, you can’t win consistently in the SEC with those players. You can’t navigate the Pac 12 getting your players hyped up and preparing extra for only Oregon and then a month to prepare for Texas. In the SEC if you’re looking ahead, you lose.

And I also don’t completely buy the “you can’t be a hard arse coach” argument either. Granted, you have to do it differently, but Brian Kelly is the biggest a-hole in the game and he’s doing better than most coaches. He routinely throws his players under the bus post-game, he gets in their face and yells at them on the sidelines and all the other things you aren’t supposed to do. And he’s recruiting extremely well. I’m sure some of it is the “stay at home” mentality of a lot of the La. kids but that’s not all of it. So why is he successful if you can’t be that kind of coach?

Greg Byrne made his bread and butter by hiring folks out of nowhere. Deboer wasn't really that.

I'd prefer less talented kids that GAF, than what I witnessed yesterday. Half the team is just going thru the motions because they've already cashed their NIL checks. College football use to be about school pride but the comparisons to the Shula years are unfounded. I never saw a Shula player half arse it. Less talented? Definitely. Less heart? No fricking way.

Brian Kelly looks like a statue on the sidelines and his team whipped Clemson in every measurable stat.

I don't care what they look like in the sidelines...I care about what the players look like on the field ... That is a representation of the coach, not him getting red face and angry.

I seem to remember one LSU player nose to nose with Kelly on the sideline last year chewing him out. And Kelly took it and the guy didn’t get kicked off the team. Our fan base would want to send a player who did something like that to a firing squad.

Then cheer for Vanderbilt. The expectation here is championships and you don’t get that with 3 star players. You get it with 4/5 star players that are coached properly. I’m sure the players don’t want to lose. They’re doing the things they are coached to do and it’s not working.
