Byrne went after Sark and 2 Pac12 coaches who were the hot names at the moment because they were in the CFP.

Who was the other PAC 12 Coach? There was only one PAC12 team in CFP in 2023, and that was Washington.

Lol, no they wouldn’t have.

Don’t know, don’t care.

I do know we wouldn’t be paying $10M a year for shite product and a $70M buyout tag

So point remains, we would be in better shape.

We would be in better shape with Tommy Rees as head coach?

Financially, yes.

Product wise, can’t be much worse than OU, Vandy, and yesterday.

If nothing else, we wouldn’t be wearing the God-awful black pants.

I mean our brand is almost destroyed at this point.

So, yea we would be better off with Tommy effing Rees.

I wonder how much money, make that profit the BB program actually puts on the black line once all expense and salaries are paid?

If you think Byrne was caught flat footed by Saban’s retirement then you believe that Biden was sick during the debate with Trump.

We were vetting replacements in the Fall of 23. That included DeBoer. That might blow some of your minds but that’s the truth.

I think GB is a smart calculated decision maker.

So I have to presume and hope that he is making very strong suggestions on the next DC since the decision to fire Womack is already been agreed upon.

And as AD, this DC hire is already your HC in waiting.

Basically letting CKD know if you frick up more he's gone and we have "my" new HC ready to with little to none heads up.

Really just think GB needs to hire the next DC. Since CKD had his shot to get a guy and he chose poorly.

I have a very hard time believe Mike Norvell was our first option with his piss poor recruiting classes and generally mediocre resume

We might have flown there as a contingency, but Jimmy Sexton was in Tuscaloosa negotiating that entire time so the pool was obviously bigger than just Norvell

As for the everything else, I’m fine offensively this and last year minus whatever Milroe was doing on the field. However The defense has been an absolute eyesore and it’s been made very clear that Womack hasn’t learned how to perform at a power conference level.

Get a new defensive coordinator, one who’s actually proven, and DeBoer makes his job a million times easier

Had to be Lanning and if any of you who shite on Kiffin are ok with Lanning, you’re crazy. Lanning’s ego is Kiffin’s on steroids, not to mention probably a carbon copy of DeBoer’s lack of production.

If the football situation goes really poorly and the contract prevents the boosters from finding the cash to make the change then you can bet on Byrne’s head being on the chopping block. Someone is going to pay for that hypothetical business snafu and the president had nothing to do with it and the trustees aren’t going to be held accountable for such things.

I think the talk of firing Byrne is ridiculous...but this is a point that I agree on. New guy should get the Saban, no buyout, contract. Youll find someone then that really is about that life if he'll put it on the line like that. Buyouts are dumb anyways, im convinced its mostly money laundering

It was Lanning, I had forgotten. Oregon was not in the CFP that year though. It was Alabama,Washington, Texas, Michigan.

As usual, folks are overreacting. IMO.

Season is salvageable but I do agree it was EXTREMELY BAD. Coaching and Accountability is at it's lowest point in 20+ years.

With that being said; The buyout is large. However, Byrne was being aggressive with a hire. Large contracts/buyouts were going to be a thing for anyone we hire. Who the Hell would want to follow Coach Saban?

Hiring is fricking tough.

ETA: With that being said.....I didn't like his messaging around donating to NIL programs. If he can't get a new arena done then I think this dude needs to get shitcanned especially if he loses Coach Oats.

I have a low opinion of Byrne but it is mostly something I dislike about the direction of college football that is bigger than him. Hell, in a narrow sense he is doing exactly what he should be doing. I just don’t like the corporatization of the cfb experience.

I don’t know if he should be fired right now but he definitely will be if DeBoer continues to falter and we’re stuck in a financial no-man’s land on making serious changes to the direction of the program.

I think his job depends on DeBoer figuring it out. As they said in my Army days: one oh shite wipes out a hundred attaboys.

Interesting. Any theories on who this DC could be?

I’ve been told this is still an issue, that Byrne needs to hire someone who is very good in this area to help him. Have also been told Byrne is not a big believer in NIL. TIFWIW

Bill Battle were both significantly better.

Bill Battle is one of the worst ADs in SEC history. Period. He re-upped the Nike contract years before it ended and cost the University millions. He kept Anthony Grant a year too long and was going to bring him back another year until enough boosters threatened to pull their money. He then focused on Gregg Marshall even though anyone with a brain knew he wasn't leaving Wichita State (and good thing with all the shite that came out about him years later) and then hired Avery Johnson because he was a name and he wanted to be a college coach only so he could coach his son. (Granted Avery left a good foundation for Oats). National Championship winning gymnastics coach retires and what did he do? Let's only interview the two assistants and pick one of them instead of doing a real search. Let's not even get into the whole Greg Goof I mean Goff baseball debacle. Or are we also forgetting the stories out of Tuscaloosa from 2013 when the Saban/Texas rumors were swirling that he supposedly had to be forced by the PTB to actually talk to Saban and offer a new contract?

Oh and lets not even get into the whole Script A debacle either. So embarrassing for a school like Alabama to do what they did to local businesses and club sports.

I would be ringing up Schuman from UGA.

Tell him lateral move for year 1 with pay bump (DC to DC). Then HC year 2.

If he says no, go scorched earth and give him HC shot.
And bump KD to the curb.

Costly and risky. But sets up the long game.

I know a guy who would have walked to Tuscaloosa to take the job who took a 5th-string running back and turned him into a pretty good QB and is the best QB coach in college football. But, he’s not gay so he’s a no-go, apparently.

If we truly did blackball Kiffin it’s highly likely Saban influenced it. You don’t think we maybe asked the guy that had a massive love-hate relationship with the candidate?
