I think you owe the folks on here who saw this a mile a way last year an apology.

"Defense is fine" " Womack is great"

Will an apology make you feel better? I could hear a thousand apologies this morning, and wouldn't feel a tad bit better

They have a tiny front seven that will get pushed around by any physical run game.

270 yards on the ground and 31 points is fine? Those analytics are shite.

The unfortunate part and I put this in the other thread. This game was easy for Gus. He watched 2 games Vandy and Oklahoma and knew he has us. Inside read and motion jet sweep. His new QB threw one pass downfield, that was it. We have a good secondary but it absolutely doesn’t matter, all they do is chase guys the front seven should have stopped. Every single team we face with a read game will do this. The only hope is getting the offense to elite levels.

Within the 2nd QTR it became apparent that Bama would have to score each time we had the ball because we couldn't stop them.

That pressure was just too much to handle.

This is year 2 or 3 that Bama has started ILBers that aren't top shelf. 0 and 10 wouldn't play at the top schools in the SEC.

They’re talented players. Granted, Lawson is coming off the ACL injury. Still, the inside linebacker coach is Wommack. There’s the problem.

It’s not just one terrible game. This is the same team that lost to Michigan, OU, Vandy, etc. We are 5-5 over the last 10 games. We’ve lost 3 of the last 4 and we’re double digit favorites in all of them.

Yesterday wasn’t an outlier. It was the new normal.

Jefferson has been at Bama since Ray Perkins and he ordinary, yet he starts. That speaks volumes about those players behind him. Same for Lawson. He was average last year and 2023.

Lawson healthy would be fine.

He shouldn’t be on the field in his current state but that’s more a reflection of our lack of depth there, his courage and poor coaching. It’s absolutely an indictment of Wommack that he saw what we saw and wasn’t making changes.

I’ll also point out again that LBs who are playing behind undermanned DL fronts sometimes get overwhelmed because of… physics.

They’re getting blocked by bigger guys running free to the second level. As every coach since the wing T has known that’s a bad thing for the defense.

If we had more and better DL guys up front against power sets it would eat up their blockers and free up those LBs to some degree because of… math.

I actually think his 3-3-5 can work against modern offenses just fine.

He just cannot sacrifice games when the other team decides to make what’s a pretty obvious counter to it by going jumbo up front.

I was pretty angry by the 2H with watching him revert to script yet again, but I’d actually be interested to look at what made Malzahn go spread in the 2H when he was gashing us and chewing clock in power sets during the 1H.

In other words, as bad as yesterday was defensively I actually think it would’ve been worse if Gus hadn’t gotten cute in the 2H.

Ty hitting players at their feet, oline screen door, wr dropping passes, that hope is small, but it’s same thing I said around the 3rd quarter.

Gus went full Gus and gave us a shot, we just pissed ourselves instead. Down 7, big third down stop and Smith drops an elbow on Castellanos for no reason. FSU is going to lose 4-5 games, they’re not that good..and they made us look pedestrian.

Could be a loooong season. Maybe the OU, Michigan, Vandy, and FSU performances are the norm and the UGA and LSU’s are the exceptions. frick

Wommack scheme is crap but they aren’t talented players. At least not ILBs.

Ty started panicking and throwing off his back feet. He’s also woefully inaccurate throwing on the run.

Ty cannot hit players in stride . Everything was late or receivers had to adjust to the ball negating any opportunity to RAC

We had four game changing plays or calls go against us:
1) phantom holding gives them a 1st early on a failed 3rd down they never showed again on replay
2) im missing one here
3) Smith gives them a 1st down on the roughing call
4) Williams gets concussed and they pick up the targeting flag and we fail to convert on their side of the field

I hope Williams is ok but frankly he should’ve been benched yesterday. That was one of the worst performances from an Alabama WR I’ve seen in a long time. He was playing soft, had T. rex arms on balls in traffic and had multiple drive killing drops or plays that forced us into difficult 3rd/4th down conversion attempts.

Ty played like crap but outside of Bernard and Cuevas he wasn’t getting any help.
