Not this season. Here are the numbers that have been going around...
quote:
– Kentucky: $20 million
– Vandy: $10 million +
– Florida: $10 million +
– Texas A&M: $10 million +
– Arkansas: $10 million +
– Missouri: $10 million +
– Tennessee: $10 million +
– Auburn: $10 million +
– Texas: $10 million +
– Georgia: $8-10 million
– LSU: $8-10 million
– Mississippi State: $8-10 million
– Alabama: $8-10 million
– Ole Miss: $8-10 million
– Oklahoma: $6.5 million
– South Carolina: $5.5 million

This puts us at between #10-14 in the SEC in NIL budget for 25-26.
quote:
Mo D wanted more money than Oats thought he was worth. If we had 100 million budget he wouldn’t have paid him what Kentucky offered.
If we had a $20 million budget like Kentucky, we might've paid him. At worst, we'd have been able to replace the loss. But yeah, they offered him an absurd amount, 3-4x what we offered (supposedly he got $1.6 million).
quote:definitely the most likely scenario. But UNC also threw around big money in a last ditch definitely to save Hubert's job.
And Stevenson just wanted to go home. That wasn’t NiL related.
Either way, I can't blame either guy for doing what they did. But losing them hurt us badly, since everyone was getting overpaid, and we couldn't replace them properly.

Give him the extension already and whatever he wants in NIL.

I don’t believe these numbers are accurate or how an “OU Insider” would know the NiL budget for each team.
Nil is also the ability to profit off your brand/NiL. Oats and the administration don’t try to skirt the clearinghouse.
Edit: There no way Oklahoma is paying less in basketball NiL than Miss St

Knowing nothing I'd guess this ils an Oklhoma "insider" wanting to claim their NIL is below par for whatever reasons more than anything.

There seems to be a tendency for fans to either dramatically overstate or understate their favorite school's NIL.
If I had to guess the general picture that almost everyone in the conference is spending around the same amount but Kentucky is spending football-levels is likely accurate. Kentucky football probably went back into the crypt due to NIL. Finite money, so fan interest dictates funding. They're taking money most everyone else is spending on oblong spheroid and putting in round ball instead.

One thing I will add: when people start talking about more NIL budget, they need to understand it in that context.
Football wants more NIL too. Whatever butters the bread at a school is going to dictate who wins those arguments.
I don't think we've seen NIL spending dictate the champions as much as people may imagine in either revenue sport. Indiana allegedly had an NIL spend in the same range as us. It is all about roster building now. Minmaxxing positional value and all the other considerations an NFL or NBA GM confronts every offseason.
Florida, Tennessee, and Arkansas are trying to win national titles like us and they aren't spending 20m...just saying...

My opinion. Take some of the NIL money away from football and give Nate Oats whatever he wants. Flood the basketball program with NIL money (he'll take it, regardless of saying in the past he doesn't need a huge NIL). Give him anything and everything he wants. Sorry, football takes a back seat for me because Oats is just that damn good. Sometimes you just realize what you have and we have gold on our hands.

Agreed. Based on that number they'd probably be paying just Pack and Reid like 30-50% of their entire NIL budget. That's a writer carrying the water for an administration that doesn't seem to know what it's doing with basketball. Moser was an odd hire for that program and they seem to be ignoring the fact that it just hasn't worked by giving him another year for no apparent reason. Gotta make excuses to keep the fans optimistic though.

If we could get on another Saban-like roll (I know…win the lottery TWICE, right?) NIL money for both sports wouldn’t be an issue.

Watch for Kansas. That's the one to worry about. Been told that for the last few years.

Kansas is likely going the interim route.

UNC just opened

I just saw that. I hope UNC doesn't come after Oats.

Oates isn't leaving daughters behind, plus he just got engaged

Better build that damn basketball facility!

You know I've seen multiple times on here people suggesting Nate and Crystal got divorced but I can't find anything credible online saying they aren't still married.

They are coming after him. It's up to Byrne to make a good enough contract.
Honestly, I don't see the reason he has waited. Do it right after R32 win vs Texas Tech and we wouldn't have to worry.

UNC already has their guy, they didn’t pull the trigger without knowing. They may not announce it if the current selection is still coaching, but their next coach is a done deal already

I will believe this when I see it, I have no faith it will happen. They will put lipstick on it again
