The guys we had playing where Sanders should have been were not close to first rounders.

Facts.

Actually that's the opposite of a fact. Drew Sanders was drafted in the 3rd round. I know you guys have internet because you're posting on this site. So how about a quick google search before we continue to post false information.

There is literally no one on this board who is going to defend Pete Golding, so why do you keep bringing him up? Everyone was done with him after 2021 at the latest and thought Saban made a mistake by retaining him. Eventually you'll find a windmill willing to joust with you though, so don't give up. Maybe next you can go on an unhinged rant about another controversial topic like how bad Chris Capps was or how much of a lowlife Dennis Francione is.

I bring up Golding because he is indicative of the rot that remains in the program. If Bama can't develop guys into their full potentials, why should they come here?

Bama used to develop guys better than anyone but those days are gone. ND is now mentally tough and they have one of the best defenses in college football in year 2 with their new coach. UGA is the best program in the conference. Texas looks to be a better program than Bama now. Michigan and Penn State are both developing guys into future pros at a high clip. Locksley is doing unprecedented things at Maryland. Cristobal has seemingly recovered from his staff mistakes of his first year at Miami and the team looks like they will challenge for the ACC Crown.

Where else in the SEC do you think Milroe could start?

Speaking of Cristobal, how does he have a better looking OL than we have in year 2?!

I know it is hard for you to understand - but I think the point is - Saban has missed it several times, from coaching to keeping better, albeit younger, players on the bench because of his loyalty to the veteran. He is right more often than he is wrong. But he certainly has been provably wrong. So perhaps, and I don't know, but perhaps he is wrong HERE

ETA - This is John Doe's point and makes an intelligent, passionate case for his position

The guy who is no longer with the program...is indicative of issues within the program he is no longer a part of?

No one, or almost no one at least, is going to try to seriously argue that Milroe has been particularly good so far. At best he has been OK. He looked awful against Texas and played a big role in the loss. Where all you dipshits are missing the point is that both Simpson and Buchner got their chance and couldn't move the ball on literally one of the worst defenses in the entire country. A team whose pass defense, just one week before, had given up 375 yards to a goddamn HBCU. Lonergan is the answer though right? There's no way that throwing him into the fire in an SEC road game could possibly backfire.

That and a lot of bad coaching hires, several he kept for years.

You’re clearly delusional. If you hate Milroe how about y’all just stop watching. Ty threw one pass Saturday night and it was horrible and should’ve been intercepted. Ty has no pocket awareness and what makes you all think he has all these good intangibles? High school film in no talent Tennessee? Milroe had great high school film also. There’s a reason Sarkisian wanted him. Sarkisian would have Milroe looking like a heisman candidate. You know an actual coordinator who develops quarterbacks. Sarkisian literally just coached three first round quarterbacks. And all pro bowl quarterbacks. Which starting NFL quarterback has Tommy Rees coached? Rees’ offensive scheme is outdated and cannot maximize a quarterback’s ability. Two man routes against dime coverage? Yeah Ty would look so much better hahahaha. Ty couldn’t complete passes against USF. And that’s no knock on Ty but y’all are praising Ty to destroy Milroe and it’s not right.

Wraith we aren’t doing this. Enough. Considering you said this

“ He wouldn't start Drew Sanders where he should have and he was a first round ”

Everyone needs to chill out.

Milroe is the guy. Take it or leave it. I want to us to win. We may or may not. Who knows.

I agree. I'll always believe Saban ran Tosh off when he should have ran Golding off. Tosh should have been able to learn on the job as Golding was allowed to. Tosh came to Bama as an ELITE recruiter.

Comparing the Jalen/Tua debate to what we are currently experiencing is silly. There is no Tua on the team. The proper comparison is more like Hurts / Blake Barnett.

Hell, I think Simpson handled adversity better than Barnett admittedly against a far lesser opponent.

This won't put an end to the debate, but maybe it'll stop one of the spinoff fires ...

Drew Sanders came to Alabama as a middle linebacker, and (from what I recall) told the staff he wanted to play outside. The staff obliged, and put him there. He was behind Christopher Allen until Allen got hurt, and Drew played well until HE got hurt.

I think Drew got frustrated by something -- either how his injury was handled, or by the staff suggesting he move to middle linebacker in the offseason -- which caused him to enter the portal. I don't know if Arkansas promised him he'd get a shot at outside linebacker and then moved him to the middle, or if he knew ahead of time he'd play MLB there.

Or, shoot, maybe he was just frustrated by Pete Golding's defense and wanted out.

But he played in eight games as a freshman, and in seven games as a sophomore (he lost time due to his injury). He wasn't riding the pine, and was poised to have a much larger role in the defense, when he transferred to Arkansas.

My recollection of the transfer issue was we tried to move him back inside, don’t believe it was the injury.

Where it does get weird is he just never played outside with Arkansas. Never quite understood the transfer after that
