Was surprised Paris Johnson did not give us more consideration before committing to OSU. I thought we had a great shot at him after he visited us last year.
Guess he still has some interest in us. Might there be a chance?

McKinstry, No. 1 prospect in Alabama, back on the football field (BamaOnLine | incl. video)
quote:

The last four months have featured a bit of everything for Ga'Quincy McKinstry, known in the Birmingham-area as Kool-Aid. The two-sport star from Pinson Valley (Ala.) High School, who opened up the class of 2021 rankings as the No. 1 football prospect in the state of Alabama, continues to add scholarship offers amid his prep accomplishments.

In early December he helped the Indians defend their Class 6A football title and then went back to basketball, where he is also being recruited. The sophomore campaign ended with another title, helping Pinson Valley to its first state title on the hardwood to open the month of March. He put in 15 points and five rebounds in the final en route to the ring and a spot on the All-Tourney Team.

Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame and Michigan scholarship offers were added along the way, joining the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and many others on the list. While McKinstry has yet to name any favorites, Auburn holds the sole 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast at this time.

Over the weekend, though, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound cornerback projection got back to football in a big way. He competed at the Southern Xpress Border War 7-on-7 tournament. Helping his team to the championship game in that setting, too, McKinstry shined on both sides of the ball as shown in the video above. He made head-turning plays with the football in the air on either side of the ball with that effective combination of explosiveness, length, ball skills and body control that makes him coveted as a defensive back in football and scoring guard in hoops.

McKinstry, who notched 30 tackles and intercepted five passes as a defender in 2018, is currently ranked as the No. 2 cornerback prospect in the class of 2021 rankings per 247Sports, checking in at No. 30 overall regardless of position. 247Sports will update the class rankings in the coming weeks.

It never fails that the first Crystal Ball is for Auburn on any elite in-state prospects.

Five-star LB has 'perfect' day in Tuscaloosa (BamaOnLine-VIP)
quote:

Antoine Sampah

"Today was perfect... Everyone sees the success from what they do on television and on social media, but what I’ve learned and experienced today is what my big bro Da'Shawn Hand has been telling me for a while. It’s moments like this that truly separate Bama from everyone else. I really like the everyday process of being in their program and the network of players and coaches that are affiliated with Alabama."

Weekly 247Sports recruit rankings updates:

Five-Star Friday: Demas makes his move, 3 Top247 additions (247Sports | segments)
quote:

This week's Four-Star Friday (and in this case Five-Star) has a distinct Texas flavor, as we were on hand in Houston over the weekend for The Opening. The event featured dozens of the Lone Star State's top prospects over the 2020, 2021 and 2022 cycles. For this update, we're focusing on 2020 prospects who made an impression in Clutch City...

Downtrends

Athleticism is an overlooked but pivotal evaluation point on the offensive line. Chad Lindberg, Akinola Ogunbiyi and Damieon George all checked in at their heaviest weights to date and posted less than ideal testing numbers to varying degrees. Each slides back relative to their prior rankings.

Vernon Broughton has an impressive frame, carrying 286 pounds. Relatively new to football, Broughton is raw as a player but also wasn't as explosive as we expected. We're still high on his upside, but feel a slide back within the Top247 is merited.

Bama in good shape early for Peach State DL (BamaOnLine-VIP)

Andy Boykin

“If I had to pick today, it'd probably be Alabama. They’re still recruiting very hard. When you look at Alabama, you look at an excellent program, very well-disciplined. Coach Saban holds all his guys to a standard. I like that. Then they have a great education program. And of course my big brother King Mwikuta is there.” Boykin is at The Opening in Atlanta this weekend.
