This was a good watch. Love all the pressures we are getting and with how good our secondary is that puts a ton of pressure on QBs to get the ball out quick and thread the needle on a lot of throws. Thompkins has played great and it’s so nice to have someone opposite of Pierre who can get to the qb.

I posted his breakdown of our OL the other day. Big fan of his stuff. It's a nice mix of hype and serious technical analysis of the battle in the trenches.
We have a few top 50 draft pick type talents in our front 7. It's a long season but these guys could end up as good as some of Saban's best.

Devan Tompkins is the difference maker. #9 along with Pierre and Tompkins is why this pass rush is so good. We can finally get pressure rushing 4. Our safeties and middle backers are also good at timing blitzes.

Woodson’s ability to rush from the off ball spot is as good as Campbell’s was. He can bend around the edge. I think as the season progresses and we want to bring pressure from the secondary it will transition from Morgan to Jireh Edwards. We can really get after the quarterback. I want to see how some of these stunt packages hold up against a more mobile guy like Marcel Reed or Sam Leavitt. Might have to dial down the slants and stunts a bit, but the good news is that it looks like we’ve got some guys that can win 1v1 and we’ve definitely got the size to build a wall and the pace at linebacker to run sideline to sideline.

Very curious to see how good this defense ends up being. Probably the best defense since 2020. The D line has been surprisingly good and the new guys are turning out to be really, really good. Won't know much over the next couple of weeks though as I expect the offenses they'll face won't be much of a challenge.

Imagine how scary our pass rush would be if we allowed Justin Hill to get after the QB instead of dropping him into coverage.

That’s bc Qua Russaw started over Pierre, and he’s obviously one of, if not the best, pass rusher in the SEC.
Lots of fans were either upset or concerned about Bama “losing” James Smith, Renaud, Collins, and Keeley on the DL, when in reality it was CKW bringing in the size/mass up-front that fits a 2-gap Odd-Front, along with the depth and versatility to play a 3 and a Shade.
Russaw was asked to move to an “off-ball” LB (he was a highly ranked LB coming out of HS), but he insisted on playing as an “Edge” rusher, and they told him he was not good enough to take reps away from Yhonzae again this year, so he left for OSU

They are MUCH better than the 2020 defense. The 2020 defense is arguably CNS’s very worst. They allowed 48+ to both Ole Miss and UF in the SECCG and 30+ against A&M and I forget the other.

It’s bc Justin Hill plays as the “Big Nickel”’bc of his versatility.
Imagine it being a “4-3 Out” like Kirk Fetenitz at Iowa that simply bumps out the 3rd LB to be the “Nickel Back”.
CKW runs a 3-4 Under, to the strong side 5-tech (Thompkins) and the weak side 9-teach (Y. Pierre) are the two primary edge rushers when they are only rushing 4.
I do agree that Justin Hill has tremendous potential to rush the passer effectively, and after this season he will slide over and replace Pierre
