He made a lot of big plays. Had a pick against LSU, locked down donte moncrief as a freshman, and plays physical. He just doesn't have the quick twitch agility a corner needs to catch up and stick to a receiver. He would be good at star or strong safety. It was understandable to start him out as a corner right away because of his physicality off the line. That's always appealing.

I can't believe that Reed isn't on any of the teams.

I'm not saying he should be processed. Just that I doubt he's one of the best safeties in the conference right now.

Maybe he will be better at safety than corner. Granted it doesn't take much to improve on his corner play when he was taking a nap against tOSU

Bateman
" He is the QB that Alabama deserves, but not the one it needs right now."
When you look at all the things a Qb could bring to the table.
Bateman set up and delivery is better than all the other QB's..and his athleticism is much better.
Coker has a big arm-Slow delivery not as mobile. Not a better athlete.
Morris very good arm, high IQ, not as mobile. and not the better athlete.
Barnett has a big arm, same mobility ,maybe just as good an athlete.
But that side arm delivery needs to get better.but not a deal breaker as he makes up for it with velocity..
But Bateman yet may trail all three in knowing playbook and other intangibles.?.
I will say when I saw last years A-day game..
I thought delivery wise Bateman threw a great ball.
LINK-2014-A-DAY
When I watch practice highlights.
It shows his set up and delivery is much smoother.
But again I not there close up to see all the other things.

team Bateman..
what exactly did Suttles say to make everyone feel this is realistic? For 2 weeks we hear that Barnett has a legit shot. Then we hear that it's Coker or Morris. Now it's Morris or Bateman.
I don't know who it will be, but I know from a friend who attended a friday practice a couple of weeks ago that Barnett is the future. Said the kid may prove to be most talented QB we've had at Bama.

Like I said a few pages back, I'm starting to think we're being fricked with. I don't know if the local media is in on it, or if they're just pawns, but I think CNS is deliberately distorting the info.

What other coach has a TV host on a nationally televised show that repeatedly talks about him? Who cares that he's "ripping" Saban, at least our coach is important enough to be talked about.
I remember the dark ages when I was thrilled that Alabama even got mentioned in the USA Today college football preview...

Supposedly insider on Bol posted this about the QB situation. Fwiw

From what I'm hearing:
Morris/Bateman and then Coker..
After Saturdays scrimmage this was pretty obvious, but now that is what most are telling me after staff reviewed film, etc

Completely off the hot QB topic but can anyone rank our fastest players? How do some of our new guys like Ridley and FItz stack up in speed?

Would think Tony Brown is the fastest on the team right now even though he got beat in a foot race by AC last year.

Saban is getting the media to screw with everyone. We're gonna bust out a 5 QB offense.
Coker at TE, Bateman at WR, Cornwell at HB, Morris at QB, Barnett at RB
Double passes galore
Also love the Bat(e)man reference by Chatta, LOL... Great Stuff
Regarding the supposed Bateman/Morris ascension, Saban sees the talent Coker has and drools, but at the end of the day, he should realize by now that he cannot trust the guy when the game is on the line. Saban does not seem to want to close the door, but we have been hearing for a while that Kiffin had pretty much given up on Coker being the guy.

Based on high school track pedigree, it would be Sylve. Sheffield and Marlon are right there with TB in high school hurdle times

From Travis Reier:
quote:
What I can tell you is that Morris took most of the first-team snaps during Saturday's scrimmage. At least, that's what I was told by multiple scrimmage observers. Word was that he was consistent if not spectacular. I actually had one set of eyes that I trust tell me he thought Bateman was the right guy for the job. It's been that kind of competition.
I was told after yesterday's practice that Coker took most of the first-team reps during the workout. Does that mean he's on track to be the starter? Maybe, maybe not. Could be that he's the guy; might mean they wanted to give him one last look with the 1s before making a final decision. At this point, who really knows?

According to Suttles, Bateman had far better stats in the scrimmage but was with the 2's whereas Morris and Coker were with the 1's
I was high on Bateman coming out of high school but watching him in the last 2 fan days has given me reason to be concerned (just practices, I know). Last year, the rain seemed to give him more trouble than the other QBs as he had trouble throwing consistent spirals with the wet football. This year, Coker and Cornwell struggled with accuracy but Bateman had a few terrible decisions where he threw late right into coverage. With out D, we can handle an occasional pick due to an inaccurate pass or timing being slightly off. What we can't have are picks that allow the DB to catch the ball in stride and race to the end zone thus preventing our D the opportunity to limit the damage to 3 points.

He was with the 2's but I read that on at least a couple of those possessions his Offensive 2's were going against the 1's on Defense. Of course TIFWIW with all this intel.

If he had success with the 2's going against the 1's, then I can definitely understand his surge in the competition.

LOL... success is a relative term though (not turning the ball over or going 3 and out).
