Period. The defense is good enough. It isn't great, but it's good enough.
You could completely switch QB and defense and this would be just as true. The last 3 national championships were won by teams with great defenses.

I’m not sure DeBoer is willing to cheat like Michigan did to win a title with good “defense” (ie sign stealing).

And there is evidence that the game was passing him by. In some ways, he's said as much.
We have to give CKD time to get established. You can't judge him in one year. Much less half a season.

IIRC, from the time CKD was hired until fall camp began, most of us were suggesting the regular season record should/would be somewhere between 9/3 & 11/1. Very few considerred 12/0 to be realistic. The potential losses were suggested to be UGA / UTn / UMs. OK, so we swapped out a loss to UGA for Vandy. That sucks but does it really change the goals?
Alabama has a good enough roster (on paper) to hold a reasonable expectation to compete for a payoff spot. There is a pretty big caviot associated with that expectation. New coaching / new systems / rosters built around the older systems. Too early to start talking about running off coaches who do not have players specifically suited to systems they prefer to play/coach. Changing out coaches too quickly puts youbehind the 8 ball in team development and you become Auburn with players on the roster selected for 2 systems ago, players sellected for the previous system, and 30% of the roster sellected for the system the coaches are attempting to run.
I also seem to recall a great deal of humor coming from members of this board about the DC attempting to sign an unusual number of LB's. Just maybe, during the spring he noticed that the LB room did not fit well with what he wanted/needed? Most of the Alabama LB roomis best suited for a 3/4 system where the 2-gap front protect them from having to take on IOL head to head. They do not attack the LoS, Instead they run .shuttle sideways and catch block when they should be crashing the point of attack.. The DC also brought in a large number of young DB's because they were needed. The DB room is very young and there is not a single member of the starting unit playing where/what he was playing last year. The DL has had a total shake up in what their play assignments are. One of the really good young guys from two year ago has already tapped out as he could not make the adjustment.
Is there any wonder why the defence is having consistancy of play issues?
How about OL play? The body types Alabama has do not match the system the coach wants to play. The OT's do not have the ballance or footspeed to do what they are being asked to do. They are road graders not pass blockers and pullers.
The DC is not shining but he also has some structural limitations that he is fighting. The OC still has alot of growing to do in calling a game at this level and making on the fly adjustments. Will they get better? I hope so. How much better can they get this year with the hands they have been dealt? I have no clue. I do know that the hopes/expectations of a 9/3 season at worst and a 11/1 season at best are still in play.

In general, sure, he needs time and he’s not getting fired in the first 3 years. Culture, scheme, getting your players, etc. all takes time.
But that doesn’t excuse some of the lack of situational awareness on basic clock management in the UGA and SC game. That doesn’t excuse taking a TO with a few seconds left and the ball materially on your half of the field rather than letting the first half end. Saban and all experienced coaches know the probability of something bad happening (strip sack returned for TD, pick six, or even just a high snap) is higher than something good happening in that situation. Those aren’t “give him time” issues; those are basic coaching fundamentals.

A lot of truth here. The entire defense is trying to play another scheme and some guys are simply and physically not setup for it.

Georgia is about as consistent a program as exists and they've already gotten shellshocked against us in a loss and were one first down away from losing to a 6-6 or 5-7 Kentucky team.
Yep, not to mention their defense is not as dominant as in past years; we dropped 41 on 'em and they gave up 31 to MIss State. Still a lot of season left but, as things stand now, I think the SEC more likely to get 3 teams in the play-offs than 4...
Texas looks like the best team in the SEC and the country...but I think UGA will give them a competitive game in Austin this weekend with a decent chance to win. Kirby's been excellent in big games against teams not named Alabama...

Georgia had a good second half against Clemson and a good second half against Bama. They have otherwise not looked as dominant as they had the previous 3 seasons.

Do they though? Their schedule has been pretty shitty so far. Kinda why I think Georgia is going to cream them. They are battle tested, and are significantly better than anyone Texas has faced so far.

The last two he's been subpar. He's turned it over as many times as he's scored.
One of his turnovers was 100% not his fault (Pritchett whiff in pass protection). The interceptions are not great because the ball shouldn't have been thrown where he threw it at all.
