Na I normally am open to a discussion of anything UA, but it's silly season and quite frankly I find that everyone else on here shares their dumb opinions freely, like yours, so I in turn share mine

This is stupid. Our offense was not the problem.

It was our QB being stubborn and our defense giving up an average of almost 40 points every damn National Championship the last four years.

If our defense didn't expect our offense to score 50 points a championship, maybe we'd win one or two more.

It's stupid to expect defenses to win championships these days. You must be an offense that can score 40-50 against the best to win these days. Saban came to this conclusion and has retooled everything we do to address this and I happen to share that same outlook.

Also I was directly responding to his dumb anger emoji over Saban wanting to stay up tempo-spread. I agree our offense is not the problem in its current RPO explosive iteration.

Our offense produced a net 9 points in the title game. They scored 16 and threw a pick 6. 16-7=9

9 points.

They had first and goal 4 times and got 3 points.

The opposing offense scored 37 points total.

And we were undefeated up to that point.

And you are saying the defense was the problem? Are you high?

Boz says Saban wants the spread still, even if thats not RPO, he apparently sees the future of the offense and team in that direction.

The "Spread" is a pre-snap alignment, not a philosophy.

It's like saying Saban's favorite food is plants.

Spread is a philosophy. There are many variations of it, the spread is not simply an alignment like shotgun.

There really isn't a such thing as "pro style" and "spread" anymore really when it comes to these things, it's more about what you do in the space and how you are using your players.

I'm not saying I want to see 2 TE's and a FB pro style, not even the pro's run that. 1 RB is pretty common along with 1 TE, I'm fine with those formations which may be called "spread" formations.

Every one uses a mixture of both types of formations. Kind of like how we have a "3-4" defense, but we run way more types of defenses than just that.

These days, what "pro style" and "spread" seems to amount to more is pro style is still using your QB to stand in the pocket and throw the ball, while more spread type offenses are about running with the QB and such.

You can run both types when needed, but as far as a base and what we want to do, I want to see more of a pro style passing attacking offense with running backs running the ball when needed.

TL:DR - I want QBs who can/will throw the ball. To me, Enos is the guy who produces that. So if that is truly the reason why Enos left, then yes I'm a bit disappointed.

I want to see more QB runs off the RPO, but in general I agree with you on wanting an offense that utlitizes a passing QB effectively.

The spread is the concept of spreading offensive players out and forcing the defense to cover every inch of the field. There are a 1,000 ways to do that.

The spread is not explicitly associated with the HUNH, dual-threat QBs, nor the zone-read as many assume it is.

It's just a plan to get people in space. That's all. And almost everyone in all levels of football are doing it, except maybe Harbaugh.

That's a good point. Boz said up-tempo spread specifically, which I do think is a philosophy because that affects playcalling and who you put on the field, but you are absolutely right, spread concepts are everywhere.

Edit: I need to write more in my posts you are about as short as I am in saying something is wrong but you write far more explaining it.

I've always been overly verbose. It's a blessing and a curse.

So what you're saying is pr offence moved the ball well, it's just stalled in the red zone?

That's not a reason to change it and take it back to the stone ages.

Hey maybe if we didn't have to start every drive on the 25 yard line because our defense couldn't stop anybody... that would help?

I agree, it's primarily on the defense. But they played poorly in 2015 and we still won. Last year, they carried an anemic offense to a win over Clemson. In 2016 they gave the offense the ball thrice in Clemson territory, only to have Sarkisian drunkenly botch it up and come away with nothing. This year, they got straight up emasculated.

At the same time, it's almost impossible to beat a good team scoring only 16 points in the modern game. The offense did perform better - they moved the ball at will. But they killed themselves every possession, be it with Locksley getting cute, a turnover, or a failed fourth down.
