Ecstatic Bama won, but I still think DeBoer = Mark Richt

Once again DeBoer brings his team out of the tunnel lethargic / sleep walking. Why is this a thing with DeBoer ?

Oklahoma beat Alabama in:

Total yards 362 - 260

Time of possession 33 - 26

Total plays 75 - 54

First Downs 18 - 12

Third down conversions - Okla was 7 - 18 Bama was 2 - 12

When we hired Saban I expected Bama to have the best defense in the country, and sure enough Bama was the pinnacle of defense for nearly 20 years.

When we hired DeBoer I thought maybe his "offensive guru" system meshed with Bama talent would be good enough to outscore some teams in the SEC but that isn't the case.

Our defense is the only reason we aren't 9-5. Under DeBoer Bama has been horrendous on the offensive side of the ball. Wommacks unit is outperforming DeBoers unit by a large margin.

What exactly is DeBoer bringing to the table ?

We have no balance. We can NOT run the football.

The only perceivable adjustments during our games are coming from the D and Wommack.

There's an argument to be made that our offensive MVP this year is Zabien Brown.

"But PowHound, DeBoer doesn't have "his" QB yet !"

DeBoer brought "his QB" with him from UW in Austin Mack. Stop with that narrative.

This offense/scheme CAN. NOT. run the ball. The QB has been regressing, the OL cant block, the RB's cant pass protect, the RB's cant make anyone miss. If it weren't for the pitch play to Hill (what took so long to figure out we could use a pitch play to maybe beat the D to the edge ?) Bama finishes the game with 25 yards rushing.

Alabama had -3 yards rushing vs Georgia. So in the past two games Alabama has 52 yards rushing, and 30 yards of that came on one pitch play. Take that play out and Bama has rushed for 22 yards the last 8 quarters of football.

I'm proud of those boys for fighting their arse off down 17 on the road in a playoff game. I'm thrilled to get a shot at Indiana in the Rose Bowl. I dont ever want Alabama football to not be the gold standard. I dont want to live through our parents years post Bear AKA the 80's. No thanks.

With Kiffin now off the board I'm not sure what direction Bama could go in, but I feel like DeBoer is going to be our Mark Richt. (Maybe Pruitt makes his way home, and we hire a legit OC to pair with him some day in the future)

Some UGA fans knew Richt was decent, but overall holding their program down. As soon as they got a true top tier coach their success went to levels they had never seen, and the Richt argument among their fanbase was settled.

I simply think DeBoer is a fish outta water in the SEC. Unfortunately, I have to admit that finding a way to win that game last night probably afforded him another year or two, but I'm expecting to lose 4 games every year that DeBoer is the HC.

Richt was a great coach who had them on the verge of multiple championships and set a foundation that Kirby was able to take to the next level. And in the age of parity in the sport, I would be happy with Richt level of consistency for several years.

This is a tricky take to make solid, OP because the sport has evolved a lot since Mark Richt was at UGA. And besides maybe Kirby, who else as a head coach has any proven ability to bring more to the table than DeBoer is doing right now? Not even Kiffin has made it to a title game as a head coach.

Only a handful of coaches that are equal to or better than Deboer currently. We have the best coach we could possibly have right now IMO. Year 2 with a playoff win easily meets my expectations after the mass exodus of players when Saban retired. Roll Tide and try and enjoy the good moments a little more.

I can't argue with that, and maybe I miss CNS so much that I'm expecting too much from DeBoer.

HOWEVER, is anyone going to argue that our nobody DC isn't outperforming our 10 million a year HC ? The defense has it's shite together. The offense is a clown show. What is DeBoer bringing ?

Eh I think that whole take was shite but yeah I still miss the old man. Had the same dude roaming the sidelines for 15 years. I think Deboer will make it. He’s getting better and our young men believe what he’s preaching.

I've been "here" longer than you bro.

One day you'll grow up and have a family and a career and you wont have as much time for message boards, but I do understand how you could lack the experience to know that.

I go back to Tide Sports, Woolly, RTB, etc.

I used to build all the practice report threads, and helped Tidal Surge build the recruiting forum on Woolly. You are speaking to a true Bama forum OG.

Id argue that a head coach does more than just be responsible for one side of the ball. DeBoer is the one who brought Wommack to Alabama, so you have to give him credit for the hire.
