Pulling for Russell as well but let's not forget what this place was like during the Mac/Young QB battle. All the excitement was around Young and Mac came out and led us to a title.
We'll be in good hands regardless.

I think it’s incredibly important to examine Ty BEFORE he got injured and after. I had rotator cuff surgery last week and had a lot of time on my hands. I’ve watched every game from last year on You Tube. Ty’s level of play up until the Missouri game when he was hurt was Heisman worthy.
I hate to sound like Texas fans but if Ty hadn’t been hurt and continued at the same level of play, I think there’s a good possibility Bama goes undefeated.
We’ll never really know how badly he was hurt but it was pretty clear to me it was significant. Even injured, he was still better than a lot of QBs out there.

Ty was excellent and with a running game he would have been fine, but when we needed him to hit deep balls he couldn't.
It is what it is and is probably why a team like the Rams drafted him instead of a team that needed a year 1 starter.

Are we gonna get daily practice reports like the old days or is it just a bunch of click bait now?
I want some nuggets!

I'm sure with the QB battle we will get real info.

Doubt there will be anything of note to report on the QB battle until we start scrimmaging
Mack will lead the line in the viewing period today, Keelon tomorrow, and so on and so on.
I think this is the most interesting competition we've had since AJ McCarron and Phillip Sims.
I think if Mack wins the job it indicates two things. He has improved a lot, and Russell isn't the generational prospect we'd hoped for. A Bryce or Tua level prospect isn't losing a competition going into their second season.
If Russell wins the job, he could be that guy- which would immediately vault us into serious contender territory.
I don't expect a two QB system, but I do think if Russell wins the job you will see some packages for Austin Mack. If it's truly a close battle they'll want to reward that and I think you have to use his size and athleticism in the power run game

I honestly just think both of them are top 5 SEC caliber QBs.
Mack could have started last season and I dont think the outcome would have been anything different.
Ty was rewarded for his ability to not turn the ball over more than anything.

So you think Mack is a 1st round caliber NFL QB?

This doesnt mean what you think it does. Oregon QB and Chambliss would have gone over Ty if they declared. Also, Ty will not start for 2-3 seasons if that.
A true 1st round QB goes to a team that needs them to start.
In the past 10 years, Jordan Love is the only 1st rd QB who didnt start a game their rookie year.
Ty will be the second. Think about that.
The rams picked Ty to have a great game manager in a couple years with experience in the system. If Ty develops a deep ball he can be great.

No True Scotsman fallacy. Got it.

What are you talking about? Everything I said was factually correct.
Ty was a first RD QB but he will be only the second first rounder in 10 years to not start a game unless QB1 gets injured.
Being a first rd qb doesnt guarantee you are good either. How many first round bust have their been lately?
Mack is a better QB than Ty Simpson.

I'll go on record and say he absolutely could be. I mean the guy is 6'6" 240 and he can move. We don't have enough of a sample size yet to say if he's closer to Josh Allen or Ryan Mallett in college. Nobody in August 2010 had Cam Newton as the first overall pick. Nobody in August 2025 had Ty Simpson as a first round pick. Austin Mack has the QB measurables that NFL GM's would build in a lab

So the thought is if he does pick Mack he will refuse to make a change.
Agree
He stayed with the QB the last two years when he should have made a change both times, at least for half a game or so.

I have no interest in arguing what our record would've been, but our offense went from arguably the most efficient passing attack in the nation (FEI adjusted) to being just pretty good.
The entire season can be defined as the period before and after his injury in terms of how our scheme functioned, not that either would've addressed our OL/run game issues.
I choose to just be excited that we were able to make a CFP run and beat our rivals given our overall injuries on offense last year (QB, RB, TE1, TE2, LG, C, RG, WR1 & WR2).

I agree. All that shite is in the past now.
Do we have any nuggets from today?

Jordan Love and Ty both had established QBs ahead of them that could still play at a high level. There was no need for them to start
