I am really excited to see this young man play. However, does anyone know what his injury is or what has limited him since he has been on campus? Just wondering if it was something significant or more precautionary? Was it something that happened in high school or something that happened after he got on campus? Just wondering if anyone here may know.

It happened after he got to campus during one of the first spring practices. Don't know the exact details of the injury tho. He should be close to 100 percent now. Hate him missing those spring practices, but he's without a doubt the high school rb I've seen in person in over two decades.

They said it was a soft tissue leg injury. He seemed to be pretty sturdy in high school.
He's listed at 5'11" 221. That's a little bit bigger than Ingram was his Fr. year.

Id be cautious with expectations on a 17 year old RB who missed the spring due to injury being an early impact guy.
He has the talent to be a peak Saban back, im just saying I wouldnt expect it right away.

I have high hopes and I know it wasn't his fault but holy cow, those reps he could have had in the Spring would have been invaluable. Not saying he won't be a really good one but those reps would have gotten him a head start.
Aside from learning the playbook, he has to learn pass protection. Neither Shaun Alexander or Derrick Henry knew anything about pass protection when they first arrived in Tuscaloosa and that alone was a big reason they weren't starting right away. If Crowell does learn to pass protect, it's gonna be hard to keep him off the field.
On a sidenote, I was really impressed/surprised by Traeshawn Brown (#17). That kid is really a diamond in the rough. Very impressed by shiftiness and ability to make guys miss in space, plus he has really good hands for a RB.

I got a feeling Crowell will have the same problem as Henry where he was in mid-classification and his team never needed to do anything but have the QB turnaround and hand or toss it to him.

Watching old HS footage of DH, I always chuckle at all the times he lined up in the wildcat. Everyone on both sides and everyone in the stadium knew he was going to keep the ball and yet rarely could anyone stop him. Just an absolute freak of nature.

I watched Crowell's HS team in the 4A championship and they were still turning around and handing it off to him even though they were up by a gorillion.

He is already 100 percent. He will be one to watch during fall camp.
If anyone should be worried about losing time to a freshman it should be Hill. Crowell will be the next household RB name for Bama.

Lets be frank, a lot will also depend on what the new OL looks like run blocking.
Outside of Derrick Henry no one was going to be an impact guy for us last year with what was happening up front because we were flat out incompetent at times opening up lanes to run the ball and getting any kind of push.
Pass blocking was good to very good, but I hope to never see another OL that bad at running the ball in Tuscaloosa.

This is also true, and Josh Pate said that's his biggest concern with our OL after seeing them in spring.
However, if we can get by Kentucky on the road (im not kidding they will be a tough out) then we have a good schedule set up to get some fluidity on the OL.
DeBoer has kind of hinted here lately that they have been doing well.
Crowell is the type of RB that can break that initial tackle and get you some yards after contact. We have lacked that lately. Hill requires a 5 to 6 yard head of steam. Dear is a one cut kind of guy who, if he hits a hole he can run.
Crowell is a true visionary back there. He kind of just has that natural ability to take the perfect route to pickup yardage and has the physicality to allow him to take paths other guys cannot. He reminds me alot of Jacobs, but I think his natural ability is a little better than Jacobs.
When he gets some confidence hes going to have some Fournette type collisions where hes putting guys on the deck regularly.
However, if we can get by Kentucky on the road (im not kidding they will be a tough out) then we have a good schedule set up to get some fluidity on the OL.

Hell, Derrick Henry is an all-time great but he at least needs the OL to let him get to the LOS without someone tripping him up. The best way to bottle up Derrick Henry is to not let him get a head of steam. Easier said than done because most OLs can usually give him that much blocking. However the 2025 Alabama OL was not one of them OLs. 2015 Henry would have broken 1k unlike our actual 2025 tailbacks but he would not have been a Heisman winner behind that unit.

This is not an attack on DeBoer but I've come to not lean on his words to press as any sort of insight. He's one of those coaches who just tries to be positive and say as little of substance as possible to the media.
Plenty of coaches who are successful are like that but he's no Nick Saban who is essentially coaching the team through the media engagements.

I agree, but I think Henry doesn't get the credit for being a good visionary because people like to think he just runs over people. Henry is the ONLY player ever to rush for 2k yards in a season at all three levels.
If he would have been given the starting reps his first two years in the pros, he would probably already be considered a top 3 back of all time. I still think he finishes a top 3 back of all time.

I agree with you, but I am hoping hes smart enough at this point to know that he cannot be making claims like that especially after the disaster last season.
He's bold as frick if hes lying about it after bringing in an entirely new offensive line basically.

The thing that makes Henry an all-timer is that people think he’s tall Jerome Bettis that’s going to run between the tackles for 30 touches. However, he’s actually more of a track speed type of back but with the size and strength to make one on one tackles for many back seven players a tough ask. You’ve got to try to go low but he can discard you with a violent swat or stiff arm before you make contact because he has exceptional wingspan.

Yea he is unbelievable. He alone brings so much relevance to our RB legacy.
I miss watching him and Ingram in crimson.

He’s completely rebuilt that roster up there, if we go in flat it could be a bad day for us.
With them trying to be a passing team I feel much better about our chances with our veteran secondary than I would against another Gus Malzahn special attacking our rebuilt DL like last year.
