He is 100% their Mike Shula, even if Jimmy Rane and company don't see it that way.

Saban could hire him first to replace Golding.

I mean at this point the reputation of the Auburn Administration is so bad I can't imagine that any coach who cares about his future would get within 200 miles of that place. Just look at how Venables described it...and that was before this whole ordeal.

It's just a den of vipers with no direction and no professional leadership, and it starts at the highest levels of decision making. The fact that Gus made it as long as he did is astonishing (and only due to the fact that the beat us a couple of times). The only guys they can hire are guys who haven't been able to get big jobs (Harsin at Boise) or old guys who want one last shot (Steele). And on top of that, the roster is an absolute mess at this point and is a major rebuild - which they've proven they have no patience for even if they like you.

Matt Rhule will have his pick of jobs if he decides to come back to college. No way in hell he takes this one.

They should go all in on youth.

Kodi Burns = Mike Shula

He’s roughly the same age Shula was in 2003. If that doesn’t make you feel old…

18 million will not stop them if they really believe they made a serious mistake in the hire of Harsin.

Harbert can just overcharge some new client and that's that.

Wouldn't you want Bama to fire the coach if this situation was playing out at T-Town.

We did. In baseball. Goff was so awful we didn’t need a side piece to make the call on him.

I suspect they are floating out the info to lay the groundwork to fire for cause. They will let him go. He will file a lawsuit and eventually it will be quietly settled for a lesser amount.

More than the money, Auburn is floating around the character issues to deflect the real reason he is being let go.

Agreed. The fact that he's going to bring their talent level down to where Mizzou, Arkansas, and Kentucky are and keep it there as long as he's around is the real reason they want to fire him. If they had gone 9-3 and signed the #8 class in the country there is a 0% chance anyone in Lee County would have any issue at all with him fricking his side piece in his office.

In all seriousness, how are they going to hire someone who isn't a part of the Fambly at this point? They're basically telling their prospective candidates they are expected to step into the strongest division of any conference in the country and win 8/9 games in year one with a depleted roster. They're also telling them they are expected to sign a top 10 class despite having to compete with Saban and Kirby for recruits. And finally, they're telling them that even though the last guy actually managed to do those things they still fired him a couple of years after giving him a massive extension because he didn't win a championship. Oh and also, they won't tell you who your real boss is because it changes from month to month depending on which boosters are currently winning the power struggle behind the scenes.

They've become more toxic than the Tennessee situation was. There is no chance for them to sign any coach who on the rise or in a good situation currently. None.

And it's all self-inflicted.

I had heard they were using the angle that he had created a toxic work environment for the players and other coaches and would be fired based on that.

It seems like aubies don't think he will be fired now. But the one who do believe Freeze or Kiffen are going to be willing to jump on board.

Man I hope so - another full year of him with a massive cloud over his head with a bad roster and what will inevitably lead to whiffing on the best state of Alabama recruiting class in 2 decades?

Sign me up.

It's because the shite that goes on behind the scenes at Auburn is a palace intrigue storyline from season 3 of a period drama on premium cable.
