Sounds like Texas is our biggest competition for Griffin.

They also have double the commits as us

I get the angle but you can't compare a 21 recruit Notre Dame team to 10 Alabama and say 3=3

We're about to go on a serious run of landing very highly rated prospects, starting tomorrow. Relax.

Any word on how Alabama stands with Xavier Griffin ? I know they've been the perceived leader for awhile but haven't heard much since. He seems to keep a low profile.

We should be good here but as TideSaint said, watch out for Texas with Griffin. Big bags of cash and Lambos go a long way.

General question about the House settlement and $20.5 mil

Is that $20.5 for the entre athletic dept? If so, Basketball, Baseball and all other sports take a portion and football ends up with about $10 mil. With 85 scholly players that is ~ $118,000 per kid.

The suicide squad players (3 and low 4 star kids) will only get in the range of $25K per year to make more $ open to use for higher end players. You now have to recruit kids willing to beat their heads against the wall for little to no money to take the place of the walk-ons that will no longer be there.

That does not go very far in the current environment so getting outside NIL within the new "rules" and who can figure out how to play the game best over the next couple of years is going to be a big deal. Unless or until the "enforcement" side of the "House Plan" takes a big bite out of the asses of several big schools, nothing changes.

$20.5M is for the entire department.

I've seen most estimate giving football $15M of that.

I don't know how we're going to approach it.

I can’t imagine that’s how the math shakes out at all

For one, football is the dominant money maker. Basketball has been relatively successful as of late, but the number of players and revenue implications of football is exponentially higher still. Baseball has more players than basketball, but as they are less successful, I imagine they also generate less revenue and are due less of the pot.

I’d say football demands something like 75% of this budget, basketball probably 10%, baseball maybe 5%, and the rest of the sports fall somewhere into the remaining 10%.

Pretty sure Byrne said 75% football , 15% men’s basketball, 5% women’s basketball and rest of sports divide the last 5%.

ETA- it is 15% for men’s BB

Replace 5% women’s basketball with softball and I’m good with it, and tbh would rather it be baseball but I understand

5% men’s basketball

With the success Nate has had since he's been here if Byrne is only giving basketball 5% he deserves to be fired.

It’s 15 for football, 3 for basketball, and the rest is split between the money hemorrhaging sports.

Only football and men’s basketball make a profit, so they get more money than any other sports. Below those two programs, Byrne named “ticketed sports” getting some of the leftover profit sharing money.

Beginning July 1, schools will be able to share $20.5 million with athletes, with football expected to receive 75%, followed by men’s basketball (15%), women’s basketball (5%) and the remainder of sports (5%). The amount shared in revenue will

Giving 5% to women’s basketball is insane

That’s just charity. And if we are going to give 5% of our budget to charity, I wish it was to feed or clothe people who need it lol

Just give the money to where you will get the most return. Simple.

$214 million PROFIT? No chance. That might be revenues.

Yes revenue. Misspeak on my part. Point is, we can’t really cry poor. We raked in more money that 15 of 16 SEC teams.
