Why would we sign another QB?

Derick Smith's position has not been determined. He said that when he committed. The coaches are still deciding.

I didn't list a QB, I mean he may be playing that in HS.

Yeah, I did. He is not a take at QB, it says that in the post, so I don't know where the confusion is

Hopefully that 5-star OT joins the fold.

This makes like a dozen recruits Husky Harsin has already landed that were all more heavily recruited than anyone Original Recipe Harsin ever did. Interesting.

… really like this guy!
Looks like the staff’s recruiting O linemen with a bit of a “mean streak” in how they play.
* up to #2 recruiting class on 247 / #3 class on on3

Any idea on where him and the other ATH Darrell Johnson are gonna play?

Love the OL class so far, bring in Haywood and lock it down!

Edit- I would guess at least one of the ATH are gonna play safety

This is from The Athletic on Duke's position.

quote:

Four-star athlete Darrell “Duke” Johnson, the No. 28 player in 2025 according to the 247Sports Composite, committed to Alabama via the 247Sports YouTube channel.

Johnson, who is 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, is listed as a linebacker via 247Sports and an athlete via On3. He plays primarily defensive back at Dodge County (Ga.) High, in addition to some quarterback and running back. However, Johnson is a projected linebacker at Alabama. He joins four-stars Derick Smith, Zymear Smith and Antonio Coleman as Alabama commitments during March.

This is from the 247 article when Smith committed about potential position.

quote:

“It was good,” Smith said of the experience. “The standard like (DeBoer) said, the Bama standard, before Nick Saban retired, the standard he said is the same standard.

“It’s a lot that I like about them. Bama it’s a good place. It’s where you want to be to get drafted and go to the NFL and go the next level.”

What Smith plays at Alabama is up in the air.

“They said it’s an argument every time they have a meeting about me, Coach Mo wants me at as a hybrid safety/linebacker, Coach Shep wants me to contribute to the offense when I'm not on defense. Coach Wommack wants me at Mike. We will see, I think we will need help at linebacker which is where I want to play, " Smith said.

Tim Watts predicted Lee to Alabama as well.

Should make a helluva LB at 6'4".

Agree reminds me of a taller, more agile Shane Lee.

Jokes aside, if he bulks up to like 215 I bet he kicks inside to that safety/linebacker hybrid position. He's got the attitude for it. He's not a finesse player. Dude brings the heat when he tackles.

6-4 seems a bit too tall for corner anyway
