Based on those videos, I'd go with Riley. Neither has great open field speed, but Riley looks like he has more wiggle and better balance to me.

I agree with this. I dont know why we keep going after these bigger backs when they rarely play.

My ideal scenario would be:

1. Riley
2. Baugh
3. Hill

What I think we close with:

1. Hill

You could say that about almost any player these days

Speaking of: Ole Miss is killing the portal, but I think if they aren't successful next season then you will see a similar exodus like TA&M. I don't think filling your starting offense / defense with mercenaries is the best way to build a cohesive team year over year... but they may prove me wrong.

We have had a ton of success with big RBs. Lacy, Yeldon, Henry, Najee, and BRob were all 6'+ and 215+ pounds. I just don't see Baugh, or Hill for that matter, being twitchy or fast enough to stick at RB in the SEC full time like those guys all did. While great in theory, gadget players tend to just be guys who do a lot of stuff well but don't do any of it better than everyone else on the roster. As a result, those theoretical touches end up going to the guys who are less versatile but do certain things better.

Outside of BRob and Lacy the rest of the guys you named were special players coming out of high school. Just seems guys like Kyle Edwards who we want to wait and develop just leave..

If we don't get both or either, Daniel Hill is probably the back we end up with unless someone else becomes available. Maybe a worthwhile portal back becomes available.

Ole Miss may be better next year and this year the team was positioned to be in a 12 team playoff. Not surprise they are next year and why so aggressive in the portal.

It's been mentioned by a couple of insiders that Keeley will likely be at DE next year. I've not been able to determine what his current weight is, but that's what is being said. If that's the case and if Quandarrius doesn't come back, we will be low on numbers (albeit high on talent) at OLB.

I don't know how attractive we are to RB from the portal, because typically portal guys only want playing time & NIL. We have Jace / Roydell that could return, and Miller / Haynes / Young sitting behind them.

Possibly, but if a home run speed back becomes available that Saban likes they will get time next to the other backs. Raleek Brown was the only one I saw in the portal and he is gone already so probably won't happen, doesn't mean it can't. Just have to wait and see.

Regardless Bama only picks and chooses from the portal which is a good thing. The majority of teams that go deep into the portal to fill rosters or holes usually find themselves very disappointed. You take star QBs from the portal and a handful or less of potential difference makers. Beyond that you are asking for an implosion.

That's a good point

And I completely agree with your assessment of the portal. It's dangerous to fill most of your team from the portal. Very few transfers end up making the immediate impact you need. If they do, it's because you were weak in that area regardless.

Wow... I didn't realize they had one of the easiest schedules in the SEC.

Their only potential losses would be LSU, OK, UGA. I think they win at least 1 of those, which pretty much puts them in the Playoffs.

One of the CFB guys tweeted this will be common place under the current conditions in college football for the secondary tier schools. Loading up on portal players to make a run if you have an easy path to the playoffs in hopes of catching lightening in the bottle. Ole Miss will be one of the first test of this method.

The fact that we think guys like him has a chance to hit the portal is a problem. He is the only experienced pass rusher that will be back lol.
