Technically we don’t have a spot available for Ale Kaho if we would have landed Ross.

Perhaps we could have swung something, but I believe Ale took the last available 18 spot (and I don’t think we were intentionally saving one for him).

We had plenty of room for Ross at the time he committed to Clemson but I assume we would have made the same scholarship moves (juco DT and Arky QB) after he committed so we would have been out of 18 spots when Ale became available.

Unless the potential to circle back for Kaho is something Bama had in mind in the spring and therefore might've forgone Musika or Hatcher, you are correct.

Hurts did not help land ross, our OC not liking recruiting did not help and the fact we had 3 true freshman playing in the natty probably hurt us the worse as far as Ross was concerened!!

I think the Ross kid simply wanted to leave Alabama. You can go back to Nick Saban's tenure at MSU to know if you're a good WR you'll be showcased. I don't think this had a thing to do with Jalen or coaches not recruiting or being good recruiters, etc.

What was his designated area to recruit? I know he came to Louisiana a good bit. So was Ross his responsibility or is he just the scapegoat here? Ross committed on NSD. Slade and Williams had already signed in December. Plus maybe Dabol didn’t think Ross fit what he was looking for exactly. He went after 5’9” Waddle, 5’11” Bolden, and 6’1” Williams. Obviously he was going for the smaller, quicker Patriots model.

Or maybe I’m just way off base.

Great point. I was thinking about this earlier. Guys like Julio and Calvin Johnson are the exception because they are so fast along with being big. Big WRs are, on average, more effective in college football than the NFL because the corners are bigger, more athletic and wiser. I've heard NFL corners in interviews say they prefer going against bigger WRs than the smaller WRs which they say are harder to cover.

I think Ross did not want to stay in state. Pretty simple and the first time for a recruit.

Depending on what part of the country you live in many high schools will start classes either this week or next week

Most of the schools in my area started last week. Several of them start play on Saturday, Aug. 25.

Back in the day, the school year always started after Labor Day weekend and finished before Memorial Day weekend. Three full months off.

A friend's kid started school in July in Memphis this year. Craziness!

It's still pretty close to that. They were done the third week of May, and start back during the second week of August, so 12 weeks instead of 13.

In 2006 the state of Alabama increased it's required days in school from 175 to 180.

Sounds like a year-round schedule. Some systems have adopted that. Instead of taking a long summer, you attend for 9 weeks, off for three-ish.

That would suck for working parents.. finding daycare for 3 weeks then not needed for 9 weeks.. I could only imagine the cost.

My home unit denied my extension request for over here.

I'll be coming home September 7th after all.

Thank God. I'm ready to get the frick out of here.

I have been in education now, going on 25 years and we HAVE gone back the last week of July in the past and the kids start the 1st of August.

This past year, our kids graduated around the 23rd or 24th of May and then came back August 7th. For our football players, they had a couple of weeks off then started workouts in June and took 4th of July week off. Band started their camp the week after the 4th. I have 2 kids, 1 football and 1 band. So my "Summer" was basically over after the 4th. Teachers have workshops to attend during the summer to get added "professional development" time.
I miss those days of old!!!

Saint is coming home and another commit

I really hope we can add at least two 5*s early in the 2020 class out of Smalls, Braswell, Fleming, Sherman and Jackson. Getting big names guys in early I think helps with the other top recruits as we get deeper in the process. Really strong start to 2020.
