It was not a reference to any specific recruit. I just call BS on most of these silent commits. So called insiders claim we have them, will list their names, and when it does not work out are really quick to back track with some excuse.
Do I believe there are silents yes and the staff may know of them but for the insiders who claim to know my guess is less then 1% of them have any clue. Either way I find it more entertaining because until they sign as far as I am concerned they are not really committed.
Even public commits change their minds. Sometimes it's their choice, sometimes it's because the school cools on them and/or recruits over them. Same stuff happens with silent commits. That's not evidence that an "insider" had no real knowledge that wasn't accurate at the time he shared it.

Aight. State or Bama.
He raved about him as well. Long way to go and you can tell that's a good kid. Good luck with him.

Gotta like Alabama’s chances with a kid from Laurel, Mississippi.

He had 11 punts, 6 downed inside the 20, Zero touchbacks. So 55% were coffin kicks instead of 75%.

I think it comes down to Bama, MSU, and Auburn.
Posted on 4/23/18 at 6:03 pm to JJ27
One punt was by a different guy and only went 20 yards so it brought the teams average down.
Posted on 4/23/18 at 6:05 pm to Remiden
So 6/10 downed inside the twenty. 60 percent he wasn’t trying to turnover. Zero touchbacks. Not exactly abysmal.
Posted on 4/23/18 at 6:10 pm to JJ27
The punter is in a no win situation
He's following the best punter Bama has ever had, so even if he punts for a 42 yard average, he'll still catch hell

Why Alabama lost commitment from nation’s No. 6 safety on Sunday
Brendan Gant de-committed from Alabama on Sunday.

Alabama finished seventh in the 2018 class recruiting rankings, but expect the Crimson Tide to be back on top in 2019. Reason behind his de-commitment? Doesn’t look like anyone is really surprised...
Brendan Gant, a 4-star safety from Kathleen High School (Lakeland, Fla.), de-committed from Alabama on Sunday night. And you’re right, Blake, this really wasn’t a surprise. I had been talking about Gant not being a part of this class for several weeks for two reasons.
First, Gant, the nation’s No. 5 safety in the 247Sports composite, committed to the Tide under the old staff. Gant gave his commitment to former defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley and former defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. Different coaches have different evaluations and different preferences. Gant was preferred by those coaches, while not preferred by this staff. That was evidenced by Gant, who was in Tuscaloosa last weekend for A-Day, not talking to a single coach. If you’re a priority for the staff — trust me — you will have ample time with the coaches.
The second reason for his de-commitment was because of his numerous trips elsewhere. From talking with him and others in the know about his recruitment, it seemed more likely that Gant was going to remain in his home state and play for Florida, Florida State or Miami. After visiting Tuscaloosa on Saturday, Gant visited Tallahassee on Sunday and de-committed shortly after his visit there.
To sum it up, Gant wasn’t going to sign with Alabama and will not be recruited moving forward.

Two SEC coaches are reportedly trying to use Nick Saban’s age and eventual retirement against him in recruiting (SEC Country)
Nick Saban has shown no sign of slowing down any time soon.
Nick Saban has shown no sign of slowing down any time soon.
quote:
Nick Saban is the oldest coach in the SEC. Nick Saban is also the best coach in the SEC. So it would only be natural, with the Alabama head coach entering the 2018 season at age 66, for others around the conference whose job it is to beat Saban to start to use his age against him when fighting for the best players.
According to a Monday story written by SB Nation’s Bud Elliott, that tactic is exactly what’s happening. “None (recruits) wanted to name schools on the record, but multiple said the two schools most frequently making the claims are coached by former Saban assistants in the SEC. Interestingly, in-state rival Auburn was not mentioned as trying to use Saban’s age against him.”
During interviews in the lead up to the national title game in January, Saban joked with former assistant and current Georgia coach Kirby Smart that he had no plans to retire anytime soon, especially while he was still coaching at a high level, leading the Crimson Tide to championships, and feeling a passion for football.
Smart, along with Jeremy Pruitt at Tennessee, Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M, and Will Muschamp at South Carolina, are the current coaches within the conference who previously assisted Saban. So they would be the culprits of this strategy to take down the crimson recruiting giant

If true, for the most part, that strategy doesn’t appear to be working. “I hear about it all the time,” said King Mwikuta, an Alabama commit and 4-star linebacker prospect. “I just laugh at it. It’s BS. You don’t do that to another coach. I take offense to it. That’s going to be my head coach.”
Mwikuta has made his own evaluation of Saban. “Coach Saban wakes up at 5 o’clock. He’s the first person in there every day. He outworks everybody,” Mwikuta said. “He is still running around, playing basketball, out there running and doing drills with the DBs. Sum that up, and you tell me how long he’s going to be there.”
One uncommitted recruit had an indifferent reaction. “I’ve heard that from other coaches,” said Clay Webb, a 5-star center prospect considering both Alabama and Georgia. “And some people at my school say, ‘Why are you going to Alabama when Saban’s about to leave?’ I mean, if he did leave, I’m sure someone could follow in his footsteps. But as long as he wants to be there, I think he’ll be there.”
Elliott goes on to make the strong point that Saban’s offseason hires and promotions focused on youth and had significant recruiting connections, something that could be an indicator that Saban wants to be around for longer than just the careers of the players on his current roster.
Saban honestly is probably aware of and used to any and every tactic utilized to try to overtake his team in Tuscaloosa. And he still wins titles. So he gets the last laugh. And a ring.
