That's the one questionable area with CNS: if it's close talent-wise and one kid is from Alabama (or Mississippi or Georgia or Florida) and one kid is from Arizona, the local guy is plan A and the other guy is plan B. Every. Freaking. Time. For multiple reasons, the most important of which is it'll be easier to land the guy. If we spent the effort on Pickering that we spent on Thibs, who doesn't think we have an excellent shot at flipping him. Or maybe Nathan Smith. I'm not trying to tell Saban how to do is job, I'm the first to admit he's the GOAT beyond all GOAT's on this but I still don't think he gets the regional loyalty of kids here in the deep south.

See you gents bright and early. We get to “welcome in” a lot of great players tomorrow that want to be at Bama and compete for national championships. Going to be a great day!

Pickering isn't the same player as thibs neither is smith
Literally, Pickering is a backup plan to Sopsher, idk why you mentioned thibs when his backup plan was Bogle?

Pickering has had his heart set on MSU for a while. Unless there is a coaching change, I can't see him flipping.

He has recently said that the only team he would flip to is bama and TS said that Pickering appears to be a backup plan if Sopsher starts trending elsewhere.

Because if we did it your way and just played it safe we wouldn’t have Tua and instead would settle for the Joe Burrow’s of the world

Wrong because nobody near or far was like Tua. He was worth the gamble. We are getting more than our fair share of national recruits. But it’s an unreliable resource. And the misses sting, especially when it brings the double whammy of missing on your target and your plan B gets his feelings hurt and tells you to frick off. That might be where we are with Bogle.
I really think CNS’s incredible success nationally is actually blinding him to the inherent danger involved in it. He never stops to consider the consequences of a miss. Kudos to him for not having to consider the downside but there is one that can come into play. I know I am splitting hairs with the number 1 class but consider the possibility if we go after a stud RB next year from Cali and miss on him while pissing off the local kid. You can put yourself in a tough spot if things don’t go right.

You go get the best kids when you are Bama, you don't settle for southern kids because it's easier.
Also 15 of our current 24 commits are southern kids so it's not like we've abandoned the South here

Shooters shoot man. Not going after a prospect because you think he lives too far away and instead going after a lesser local guy because you feel it’s a sure thing you get him is how you end up being satisfied with “10 win seasons” and a nice bowl game at the end of the year.
With all due respect...fck that shite

The head guys over here put together the best recruiting thread I've ever seen.
I want to say thanks for allowing me to post on y'alls board, I really do appreciate it.
And as far as melting, I wouldn't melt. You have the #1 class right now and will finish no worse than second. The rest of the country, including the other teams in the playoff would switch classes with you in a second. Everybody just figuring out this ESD shite. Saban and his crew are already in the process of putting together a epic 2020 class.

TigerPaw1 says we convinced DJ Williams a CB from MS not to sign tomorrow with MSU.

OT: was reading the summary of the Boca Raton Bowl. UAB rolled over NIU. Congrats to the Blazers but I’m surprised Bill Clark didn’t take a job elsewhere with his name being hot at the moment. The summary said UAB had 35 seniors leaving including 15 starters. Looks like they will be taking a step back next season and Clark’s name might not be so hot.
