Crouch sits atop state of North Carolina's all-time prospect list
2. Dexter Lawrence

With Quavaris Crouch now ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class, the landscape of our all-time Rivals.com North Carolina Top 10 has changed quite a bit. Here’s a look at the highest ranked players to come out of the Tar Heel state led by this year’s top dog.
1. QUAVARIS CROUCH
The skinny: Crouch does not seem to be in any rush with his recruiting process, even though he did take visits to Clemson, Tennessee and North Carolina in January. Aside from these three schools, Alabama, Michigan and South Carolina are also considered major players at this time. Look for a list of favorites from Crouch in June or July, but as mentioned, an early final decision is not likely.
Farrell’s take: Crouch reminds some of Von Miller on defense and Bo Scarbrough on offense, but to me he’s a taller Ernie Sims, who could have played running back or linebacker. Sims went on to be a first-rounder at linebacker and have a solid NFL career and with Crouch’s physical abilities, he has a chance to be even better. He’s not a surefire lock to remain No. 1 in 2019, but he’s a special athlete regardless and will likely remain in this top 10 overall even with four ranking cycles left.

Rob's Rankings: Must-get prospects for in-state schools
He didn't list anyone from the state of Alabama, but he did mention a few guys we are going after.
quote:
There are prospects whose recruitment are larger than the tangible skill sets they bring to the table. Sometimes, landing them is about sending a message or preserving a pipeline. Other times it’s about positional need. Either way, in-state recruiting is vital to almost every successful program. Today, we rank the six most must-get prospects and the in-state schools that desperately need to land them.

1. Derek Stingley Jr., LSU
After losing Patrick Surtain, who seemed like an LSU lock for months, down the stretch a year ago, the Tigers have been gifted another five-star cornerback to court. This time, the rare talent is in their own backyard. Stingley plays his high school football less than eight miles away from LSU’s campus, making landing the Rivals100 prospect a near necessity. Head coach Ed Orgeron can’t afford to let a truly elite corner walk out of Baton Rouge after squandering what seemed like a sure thing at the same position last cycle.

2. Akeem Dent, Florida State
Last cycle saw Miami dominate Florida State – and everyone else for that matter – in South Florida. That’s something that needs to change if Willie Taggart is to achieve the success for which Seminole fans hope. That’s what makes Dent more important than his Rivals100 ranking. The top defensive back in the state, Dent was once committed to the Hurricanes and is currently pledged to FSU. Taggart needs to hold on to his commitment until National Signing Day to notch a recruiting victory over The U and prove that Tallahassee is still a desirable destination for top talent in the southern part of the state.

3. Diwun Black or Nakobe Dean, Ole Miss
The deepest in-state class in years comes at a good time for new Ole Miss coach Matt Luke, who is tasked with rebuilding the program’s recruiting reputation following a scandalous stretch. There’s no better way to do such a thing than to land one or both of the state’s top two prospects. Dean already holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Florida State and others, so this will be no easy task. Black’s offer list isn’t much less distinguished, as USC, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Florida are all in pursuit. Luke is a player’s coach and should be in the mix for both. Finishing the cycle with neither would be a disappointment.

4. Zach Harrison, Ohio State
Ohio State watched the state’s top-rank player saunter off to the Southeast on National Signing Day 2018, when five-star tackle Jackson Carmen chose Clemson over the Buckeyes. Having history repeat itself this cycle would be blow to a program used to absolutely dominating its home state. Prior to last season, the Buckeyes landed the state’s top player in four of five years. Urban Meyer has a great chance to get back on track in 2019, but the competition for Harrison, a five-star defensive end, already includes Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and others.

Sting Factor: Hakeem Beamon decommits from North Carolina
quote:
Every time a major program loses a key recruit Rivals.com takes a look at how big of a blow it is to the respective school, analyzing it from a local, regional and national level. To quantify the “sting” of each decommitment, we assign a score from 1-10, with one being no big deal and 10 being a catastrophic hit.
THE SITUATION
Rivals250 defensive lineman Hakeem Beamon had been North Carolina’s highest-ranked commitment before announcing his decommitment on Monday . Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina and Ohio State are at the top of his list right now, but other programs could also jump into the mix as his recruitment progresses.
LOCAL REACTION
UNC losing Beamon is big in that the program can't afford any negativity after last year's injury-riddled 3-9 campaign and a lot of late misses in the class of 2018. Plus, Beamon is from Virginia, a state the staff has been emphasizing again. The bottom line is UNC football needs positives, not negatives, and while losing Beamon came as no surprise to anyone, it's still a big blow. – Andrew Jones, TarHeelIllustrated.com
REGIONAL REACTION
Momentum is not on North Carolina’s side right now. Beamon was, by far, the highest-ranked prospect committed to the Tar Heels and now Larry Fedora and his staff need to fight out of this hole. To be fair, this couldn’t have been a surprise to the coaching staff because Beamon has been taking so many visits to other schools. They had to see it coming so, in theory, they should have been making moves to set up contingencies. – Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic analyst Adam Friedman
NATIONAL REACTION
Beamon was a key early commitment for UNC, a program that needs all the recruiting momentum it can get. This is a big-time prospect who had some major offers. UNC beat out some power players for his commitment, so to lose him really hurts. – Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell
WHAT'S NEXT?
Beamon named Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina and Ohio State his top schools and has visits to Alabama and Ohio State already lined up. He doesn’t have an offer from Clemson just yet but is setting up visits there and another one to South Carolina. Beamon wants to commit before the season but Virginia Tech and Penn State should play a role before then.

Allen on that 10 team opposite Jones would have been a nightmare for teams.
Allen on the 11 team would have gave that team the one thing it lacked, a elite receiver.
Allen and Cooper on the 12 team. Wow!
Oh, what could have been with Kennan Allen.

Allen may well have ended up at FS had he come to Bama.

Allen had to have his brother in a package deal and Coach wasn't having any of that! His brother was an awful QB prospect with only 1 offer, Buffalo, until California sold their soul and fricked us up with Keenan.

That's not true.
We offered the shitty brother and would have taken him.

I can never find the quote, but he said predraft that he kinda regretted not choosing Bama to play DB under Saban and a chance to win NCs.

Tar Heel State LB 'speechless' after receiving Tide offer (BamaOnLine-VIP)
3* LB Drake Thomas 6-1/225 (NC) hudl

Extremely excited to say that I've received an offer from the University of Alabama!! #RollTide
“I actually have some family ties to Coach Saban since he’s from the same area we’re from in West Virginia. My grandpa is friends with his dad... lived in the same town... has stayed in touch with him a decent amount, not anything too crazy."

I knew he was shitty!! I just didn't think Saban would waste a scholly! Didn't Keenan try to leverage guaranteed playing time for him as well or did I imagine that? I know it soured pretty quick.

We've signed worse QBs than his brother
Posted on 3/22/18 at 3:46 pm to SECSolomonGrundy
I don't remember Bama offering his brother.
Posted on 3/22/18 at 3:53 pm to RollTide4Ever
I always heard we didn't offer his brother (Zach Maynard) as well. Here is an article with Saban saying we didn't have a spot for Allen's brother.

From what I understand Tedford signed a few more of Allen's people as well. That event is what cost him his hc gig IMO.
