Mississippi kids don’t really know anything but MSU or OM. I have had a bunch sign scholkys in baseball and most don’t stick it out but a year or two cause they want to be home. Strange really . Like they are afraid to leave home. That’s why I said earlier it would not surprise me at all if he went to OM

I also wonder how the D.J. Durkin hire will reflect on some parents.. we all know he won’t be around the players and such.. but remember how much Maryland fan base revolted on him.. we have some Maryland area kids committed

Locks' early tasks for his new gig at Maryland include gaining knowledge of the existing staff and players on the roster, state of the program, etc. Maybe Durkin was brought in to assist Locks with that to help reduce the time he has to spend on those things while he's still coaching at Bama through the playoffs.

I just don't see anything else he could offer that Bama needs (and can't get from someone else) to make it worth bringing him in even for a brief consulting project, let alone hiring him as an analyst. Whether it's fair to him or not, Durkin's negative stigma precludes hiring him, even on the analyst staff. It could significantly hamper recruiting, especially in the DMV area. It won't happen, imo.

That's an interesting take, hadn't thought about that but it does make me feel more at ease

The media is ripping us a new one right now.... this isn’t a good look. Wish we would have waited.

This is brutal and there is 20 more like it when you google Alabama.

The one thing that sticks out to me is that Dean said he wanted his mom to be happy with his decision. Who does she like?

I agree I’m in Biloxi and that’s all I’ve heard about all day.

Let’s be honest.. she is a Mississippi mom.. she would love Ole Miss.lol

But maybe she feels a certain school is better for him. It Will come down to who she trust with her baby away from home. Who keeps him happy. Reason we don’t need to be hiring people like Durkin right now..lol

Yeah, this was a pretty significant PR misstep by Saban. It’s hard to justify Durkins hire in any way. He’s toxic right now

I’m just floored by it.. even as a coach. I’m like WTF? I just can’t grasp why you make that move this close to signing day or even at all. Nothing good can come from this.. nothing. I don’t doubt Saban much.. but this was stupid. I wouldn’t be shocked if it will cost us a recruit these kids are still mommy’s babies.

There’s more to it than we know. I’m sure he has smoothed it over with any recruit that is concerned about it.

It’s the parents that need to be smoothed over.. if I was any school I would be texting his story over now to the parents. Like I said especially with Dean.. it isn’t the kid. It’s the mother. I sure there is a good reason for the hire.. but social media doesn’t care about that. This is the new times.. different world. PC and everyone is offended

Bama may need to address this via the media. If Durkin was merely brought in to help Locks get up to speed on Maryland and he's not be considered for a position at Bama, then that needs be put out there, to counter the media spin that's trying to make Bama look bad. I just now DMd Tim Watts about this, so maybe he can do something about it.

Maybe he wasn’t invited but showed up to beg Saban to let him join Saban’s coaching rehab.

Bo I agree with what you are saying. I even said so in the coaches thread. Some folks on here with crimson colored glasses will justify by saying he was here for a week as a consultant, and that other coaches did worst. PR wise it is terrible, no if,and, or buts about it.

With that being said, Momma Dean had her hands on Nakobes recruitment from the very beginning. She likes the awe shucks style Kirby and staff use.
So we all should not be shocked he chooses UGA. I think you are leaning that way too, even before all this Durkin mess.

Might cost Bama from getting Dean. Sounds like his mom is looking for any reason for her son to go to Bama. She just got every reason she needs.

Sure would be interested in the behind the scenes recruiting story on Clay Webb that Hagan alluded to.

what does it look like for us with Kayvon Thibodeaux?

Any idea which way he is leaning?

I get the whole perception thing and if Saban was getting advice on health related issues it would be a problem. Simply asking a coach for advice on an upcoming opponent isn’t the end of the world.
