Well, poop. It's hard to land an elite back when you have 5 elite backs on your roster and none of them are seniors I suppose. Maybe we can find a strong sleeper who can come in and develop over a couple of years. This class just feels "flat"--can't get any buzz or momentum going like we have in previous classes. I'm not worried about it...yet.

I don't have any inside source but Martin's recruitment probably isn't over. I imagine the Barners were telling him that we are 5 deep while they will be losing 2 with no depth returning. Even though Bo and Damien are juniors and likely gone after this fall like their 2. Maybe it is the threat of competition. Maybe the Decatur REC was late getting the Charger?

Well, I guess it's Joiner, someone we haven't heard of yet, or maybe a grad transfer?

Or, maybe we flip Zamir White or Asa Martin down the road

White is at the top of our board, problem is at UGA Chubb and Michell are Seniors. He can walk in and likely start there. At Bama he will have to fight to make the rotation. I think our record proves we know how to use multiple elite backs and get them all to the NFL (Coffee, Ingram, Richardson, Yeldon, Drake, Henry, etc) and maybe we can pitch him on that. Nobody gets more RB's into the NFL in the first 3 rounds than Bama. That said, it's gonna take a hell of a recruiting job to sell an elite back to come to Bama in this class.

Vernon Jackson could be intriguing in this. He's a quality runner. Just an all-around athlete. If Alabama does pass on Joiner, we could see Jackson in a role like Jalston Folwer. The ability to play RB, but also in a role at FB and h-back.

That's assuming he commits on Saturday. But all signs point to "yes".

Hank South this morning said Vernon at RB/H is a possibility.

Jackson and Bolden could both play RB if needed.

Will be interesting to see if Martin and White sign during the early signing period.

College football’s early signing period was already a formality, but now it’s official. After an NCAA panel signed off on the idea last month, the Collegiate Commissioners Association — a committee of league commissioners — gave the new signing period final approval on Monday, it announced. The early signing period goes into effect this year, making Class of 2018 recruits the first to have the choice of using it.

My biggest thing with Martin was they compared him to Drake, calling him a role player for this offense.

And maybe that's what is missing with all the similiar(sans Jacobs) types on the roster now, but they still considered him a complimentary talent to another back.

I don't like when someone is projected that specific early on, because players often fall short of evaluations...

Even though there were a few others perform better at our camp (namely Jerome Ford), Master Teague might also be a possibility. He's committed to Ohio State, who signed several RBs last year and has a couple committed this year as well. We just need to find one good one for numbers purposes to hold us until the 2019 class with Sanders and Crouch out there. I'm not too worried about it. We'll sign a good one. More concerned about landing our top targets at DL and DB. It has been and will be the same old story from the beginning of this class until Signing Day. DL and DB. DL and DB. DL and DB.

The guy we're likely going to get Saturday has me as excited as anybody that has committed so far. Vernon Jackson is going to be a star. I get almost the same kind of feeling watching his highlights as I did watching Chris Allen last year. Different kind of player, but a versatile beast with high upside at a number of positions nonetheless.

I only saw him play QB. Was hard for me to project him at LB'er. Or would he play another position?
