With Langham, I hope your concerns ring true, especially with Bobby Brown now seeming to teeter back and forth between us and A&M.

Fact Watts has already CB'd Langham to Bama kinda is the nail in the coffin for me

Only problem is Langham is a DE and Brown is a DT. Bama has plenty of DE, but is in desperate need of DT.

Brown flipping would be a huge hit at DT depth.

Not to mention that if we don't get Brown (but sign Langham) we'll only have NINE scholarship DL next year. I'm sorry, but that's downright horrible and very concerning. We might be forced to not redshirt guys who desperately need it because of a lack of depth.

I realize that. I wonder if the staff is looking at the possibility of adding 20lbs to Langham's frame and push him inside and thus Beal being a potential back up plan at DE. Both Langham and Beal are listed the same at 6'5"+ and 265+.

I definitely want to keep Brown in the fold!!!

That is what I don't understand with DL recruits this year. No DL is getting redshirted this year. All DL will play, they might not start, but will play at least in mop up duty.

So we should start hearing rumblings since the weekend is over right? I mean things should start leaking out.

I think it was more us being picky. We could've had Cooper the kid from FSU and didn't go after him. We had the guys that we wanted and they may go other places.

I don't even understand how there can be any effective negative recruiting against us as far as DL goes. Pretty much all our guys get drafted, many of them in the early rounds, and unlike 6 or 7 years ago our DLinemen aren't all space eaters out there mush rushing anymore. We let them get after the QB.

Do we lead for any of the elite 2019 DT's? If we miss out on Brown, I doubt the staff can afford to be as picky and hold off on guys that would like to come because they want guys who might come.

Watts has told us all along that this 2018 class would be different from any prior class under Saban. There was a heavier numbers crunch from day 1. We just didnt have the wiggle room, especially when you factor in the early signing period.

Watts is saying expect 2019 to return to form.

We will probably have some guys move over to DL. The freshman TE James(?) spent some time there.

I've also thought about the possibility of Jennings moving to DE. But he played so great against Clemson at LB, I don't know if that would be an option.

Are we conceding Brown to A&M?

If by chance we miss out on Brown, we'll likely sign Beal. Either he or Kedrick James would be a DL.

Good thing there are a lot of interior guys we can offer next year.

We don't need DE IMO more inside guys. I think the kid Davis will grown into a DE or the Latu kid.

If by the off chance Bama does sign PS2, I saw on the LSU board that Beal would then have a spot in the LSU class.

Don't know if Beal would go to LSU or not in that scenario.

Alabama’s 13-year recruiting streak that will likely end, update on class size and name to watch

quote:

Alabama likely won’t sign QB in 2018 class

The last time Alabama didn’t sign a quarterback on scholarship in a recruiting cycle was back in 2004 when John Parker Wilson greyshirted. That streak will likely come to an end this Wednesday when National Signing Day rolls around.

Brock Purdy, a 3-star quarterback from Perry High School (Gilbert, Ariz.), told SEC Country on Sunday that he eliminated Alabama from consideration. He’s now down to Iowa State and Texas A&M. A source close to the Alabama program told SEC Country that “we could not take him and we are not sending him scholarship papers.” What he means by “not taking Purdy” is just that the team didn’t want to use a scholarship on him.

That effectively ends the Tide’s search for a quarterback on scholarship in the 2018 class. The only quarterback left this cycle that Alabama has an offer out to is 4-star prospect James Foster, and as of Monday morning, he cannot commit to the Tide. The one thing that needs to be noted is that this could totally change by Wednesday. That’s just how recruiting goes, as teams figure out who is going to end up signing and who isn’t in the final few days before Signing Day.

It was always going to be difficult for the Tide to sign an elite-level quarterback in this class. Alabama came close to signing one twice this cycle. Jarren Williams, a 4-star quarterback who signed with Miami, was ready to flip from Kentucky to Alabama in early October. His high school coach told him to not rush anything, so he decided to wait. SEC Country had a story ready to go on Williams flipping to Alabama. It was that close.

Alabama also decided to make Emory Jones the priority quarterback target. Jones told SEC Country that he was leaning toward flipping to Alabama until Florida coach Dan Mullen aggressively pursued. Jones decided that Florida’s lack of quality quarterback depth was more enticing to him than Alabama’s, so he signed with the Gators.

Quarterback recruiting in 2018 was going to be a challenge with the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year, a 5-star prospect in Tua Tagovailoa and a 4-star prospect in Mac Jones. The path to early playing time isn’t there for a Class of 2018 quarterback. Hurts still has two years of eligibility, Tagovailoa has three and Jones has four. Expect the Tide to sign two quarterbacks in the 2019 class. Thankfully for the Tide, there are two high-end prospects in the state of Alabama who have major ties to the program in 4-star prospect Paul Tyson, who is Bear Bryant’s great-grandson, and 4-star prospect Taulia Tagovailoa, who is Tua’s younger brother.

I do think that Alabama will land a preferred walk-on quarterback in 2018. Look for Braxton Barker to be that player. Barker is the son of former Alabama quarterback Jay Barker. Braxton does have a preferred walk-on offer and was in Tuscaloosa this past weekend.

Update on class size

There has been some confusion on how many players Alabama can sign in the 2018 class. A source close to the program told SEC Country on Sunday that Alabama can sign 23 players. That is what coach Nick Saban said at his press conference wrapping up the early signing period, so the source did confirm that number.

Also, it has not been settled yet on what the team is going to do with 3-star tight end commit Michael Parker. He has been penciled in to receive a blueshirt, but that call has not been finalized just yet. It will likely be made on Wednesday when top targets start finalizing decisions. Parker told SEC Country that he is planning on blueshirting and is fully on board to do whatever to help the team.

Name to know for Wednesday

SEC Country was told that 3-star John Curtis (New Orleans) tight end Glenn Beal does, in fact, have a committable offer. He will be sent scholarship papers. Whether he chooses to sign them is another story.

Beal is down to Alabama, Florida, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M. His last visit was to Tuscaloosa. That’s always a good thing in recruiting because a lot of these recruits are swayed by what they see and hear last.

We’ll see what happens with Beal, but he’s a name to watch come Wednesday. Texas A&M and Tennessee are likely the biggest competitors for Beal right now. There may not be room for him at LSU.

Note: Bama has talked to Beal about playing DL and he is very open to doing so.
