So Kinlaw has gotten 3 CBs to South Carolina today. I thought they couldn't CB someone to a school if they were committed there?

Kiffin needs to let him know he'll end up pumping gas if he goes to USCe.

Here are Kinlaw's JUCO highlights:

I gotta say, after watching them I'm not very impressed

I watched...he's big and athletic, reads a play pretty well uses his inside step pretty devastatingly to get a step on an OL and get them on their heels. I saw a pretty good array of moves with his arms and hands and has a really good motor for a DL. He's also playing some 3 tech on looks like running downs. Reminds me a little bit of Jarran Reed.

Don't see what's not to like

He just didn't seem to be aggressive. He has talent, but I don't see the meanness I like to see out of a defensive lineman.

Most important visitor

One of the biggest needs in the Class of 2017 is safety, and one intriguing prospect at the position will be taking an official visit to Alabama this weekend.

Daniel Wright, a 4-star safety from Boyd Anderson High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), is committed to Florida State, but his interest in Alabama is high. In fact, Wright said Alabama is his No. 2 school behind Florida State.

He hasn’t been talked about much here at SEC Country because his name hasn’t been floated around until recently, when he expressed a desire to keep his options open. A lot of commits do this now with all of the changes that happen on coaching staffs.

The one positive Alabama has when it comes to Wright’s recruitment is that offensive line coach Mario Cristobal is his recruiter, and he’s one of the best in college football when it comes to getting the players he wants on his team. Cristobal has a strong influence in South Florida, and that should not be understated here.

There are several other candidates in the Class of 2017 to play safety, including 5-star LSU commit JaCoby Stevens; 4-star prospects such as DeAngelo Gibbs, Devon Hunter, Todd Harris and Xavier McKinney; and junior college prospect Johnathan Abram, but none of those players have outwardly expressed that Alabama is their favorite.

Wright will enroll early at his school of choice, so this may be the only chance he has to visit Alabama before the dead period begins on Dec. 12.

Alabama 2017 class snapshot

Alabama has a good chance to have the nation’s No. 1 class for the seventh straight year, but it’s going to be tough. Ohio State is in the running for several more 5-star prospects, while Alabama is not. However, on paper, this might actually be Alabama’s best class because it has commitments from a top-class running back, two future play-making quarterbacks, a bookend left tackle and more.

Where it ranks?

Alabama’s 2017 class ranks second overall and first in the SEC. It trails only Ohio State for the top spot.

For context purposes, the Tide have 21 pledges, including four 5-star recruits (Najee Harris, Alex Leatherwood, Dylan Moses and Jerry Jeudy), 10 4-star prospects and seven 3-star talents.

Top recruits

As is standard in the Nick Saban era, the majority of Alabama’s commitments are of the blue-chip variety, meaning they are either rated 4- or 5-star prospects. Here’s a look at the top Alabama commits:

Najee Harris, 5-star RB (Antioch, Calif.)
Alex Leatherwood, 5-star OT (Pensacola, Fla.)
Dylan Moses, 5-star LB (Bradenton, Fla.)
Jerry Jeudy, 5-star WR (Pompano Beach, Fla.)
Tua Tagovailoa, 4-star QB (Honolulu)
VanDarius Cowan, 4-star LB (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.)

New commitments

There’s still plenty of time to go until National Signing Day, but most of Alabama’s class is already full.

Alabama’s newest commitment is 3-star tight end Major Tennison. He took an official visit to Tuscaloosa for the Texas A&M game and ended up committing the day after the Tide rolled over the Aggies. His recruitment is over, as he is no longer taking visits elsewhere.

Who could be next? Two defensive linemen could be Alabama’s next commits as 4-star defensive tackle Elijah Conliffe could decide to announce his decision this month and 4-star defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis is expected to make his decision at some point after his high school season.

The rest of the top targets Alabama is seeking are expected to either make a decision in January or on National Signing Day.

Alabama has had difficulty at kicker for a long time. That may change soon.

Crimson Tide commit Brandon Ruiz, a 3-star prospect from Gilbert, Arizona, hit a 58-yard field goal during Williams Field’s 41-14 playoff win over Marana. The kick was a school record, according to Ruiz’s father, Fernando.

Fernando also captured the whole thing on video.

The Crimson Tide fan base is pretty polarized when it comes to Alabama’s kicking situation. Ruiz’s kick, however, is something all Alabama fans can agree to be excited about.

Ruiz is ranked as the No. 2 kicker in the country for the class of 2017. He committed to Alabama in June. He also has offers from Arizona, Iowa State, Oregon State and Tennessee, among others.

Holy shite. That would have been good from 65!!

SAN FRANCISCO — Texas A&M and LSU have both offered Alabama commit Elliot Baker, the nation’s No. 1 junior college offensive lineman, in the past week. He’s appreciative of the opportunity to play for those schools, but it won’t be happening.

Baker committed to Alabama in June and hasn’t looked back on that decision once. He said he won’t be changing his mind.

“I’m not saying I’m not interested in these other schools (that have recently offered), but I don’t pay attention to any other programs other than Alabama, to be honest with you,” Baker told SEC Country.

That’s evident of the recruiting mail that sits inside City College of San Francisco’s football offices. Weeks-old letters from programs such as Southern California and BYU remain unopened.

“I don’t talk to any other coaches besides Alabama coaches,” Baker said.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive tackle bought into the Alabama program immediately when he visited for the team’s camp this summer. Going into the camp, committing wasn’t on his mind, but before he left Tuscaloosa, he was a part of the Crimson Tide’s Class of 2017.

There’s a funny story behind that.

Before sitting down with Nick Saban 1-on-1, which Alabama’s main recruiting targets always do, Baker and his mentor/offensive line coach at City College, Eduardo Nuno, had a game plan of what the recruit should say.

Nuno told Baker not to rush into a commitment and to tell Saban he wanted to keep his options open because he was going to visit Auburn later that week. Nuno and Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand are good friends, and Nuno was going to stay at his house.

Baker agreed with Nuno. He wouldn’t commit during the meeting with Saban because there were more visits to be had.

However, he didn’t stick to the plan. The Auburn trip he was supposed to take never happened because Baker committed to Alabama and canceled every other recruiting trip after that.

“I could feel him almost levitating next to me when he talked to Saban,” Nuno said. “You could just see him get so fired up. He kept on saying, ‘I’m ready, coach! I’m ready!”‘

Baker said it wasn’t necessarily the meeting with Saban that made him commit, it was a compilation of his time with the players, coaches and other recruits on campus at the time.

“When I sat down with Saban, he just laid out the specific process of how they develop you as a player on and off the field,” Baker said. “Seeing all of the national championship rings and SEC rings was the icing on the cake, too.”

When asked if he was going to explore other schools and take visits elsewhere, Baker laughed and gave a one-word answer that Alabama fans will like.

“No,” Baker said.

The nation’s No. 2 overall junior college prospect has three years to play two seasons and will enroll at Alabama this January.

I like the regional and state breakdown. And I know we will add a few more from Alabama. So that makes me happy. Lol.

It looks like we'll land almost a third of the class from in-state. I'd say that's a good percentage.

Good stuff, but being shut out of Georgia is a lil different. Is that the Kirby effect?

Yea, the "new" needs to hurry and wear off of Kirby. Georgia is a pretty big hotspot for recruiting.
