Aubrey Solomon, 4-star DT, Leesburg, Ga.

Solomon is considered the team’s top defensive tackle target, but it may be hard to steal him away from Georgia, which is considered the favorite. The one positive working in Alabama’s favor, his mother loves Nick Saban and the program he runs. Solomon’s mother is the key in his recruitment.

Ryan Johnson, 4-star DE, Mobile, Ala.

Johnson grew up an Auburn fan, and that’s where things have been trending as of late. He was at the Tigers’ game against Clemson and should be back for multiple games this season. He has not visited Tuscaloosa recently but is expected back. With Ray and Johnson being similar players, it’s possible there may not be space for Johnson by the time he makes a commitment, which is expected in January.

Aaron Sterling, 3-star DE, Tucker, Ga.

I have not expected Sterling to stick with his commitment to Alabama for months now. I anticipate him eventually de-committing despite Alabama wanting him in this class.

Isaiah Buggs, 4-star DE, Perkinston, Miss.

Buggs is loved by the Alabama staff, but it hasn’t been able to get the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College defensive end to visit Tuscaloosa yet. If he does, I expect his name to jump up on this list. He loves Alabama, but he needs to visit to become a serious target.

Justin Thomas, 3-star DE, Spanish Fort, Ala.

Thomas is committed to LSU, but Alabama continues to pursue the Tigers pledge. His father, Atlas Herrion, played for Alabama in the early 2000s. He was actually recruited by Saban when he coached at LSU. If Alabama misses on some of these guys above, I expect the Tide to put the full-court press on him with the hopes of getting him to flip his commitment.

For the record, Atlas Herrion is his step-dad, not his biological father.

Tyler Shelvin, 4-star DT, Crowley, La.

Shelvin would have been higher on this list if Bo Davis was still Alabama’s defensive line coach. He’s not, so Karl Dunbar has a lot of work to do in order to build his relationship with the LSU commit.

Marvin Wilson, 5-star DT, Bellaire, Texas

It’s highly unlikely Alabama is going to sign Wilson. Like Shelvin, if Davis was still the coach, it would be a different story. Also, he’s not being strongly pursued by Alabama.

I guess that ship has sailed then.

With the way this DL class is shaping up, I'd really like to just add Ray and Concliffe and stay on Thomas, Johnson, and Farrell. Maybe jucos depend on Sterling and Byers.

I'd rather keep Sterling over Conliffe.

TS, what is the issue with Sterling. Does he just not want to be in the class, looking at others or what is his deal?

Isn't he a likely flip candidate if Miles gets canned?

I honestly don't know. People keep saying they don't expect him in the class, yet they never really give a reason why. I assume it's due to star gazing and not watching his film.

He's a stud. Why anyone wouldn't want him is beyond me.

He's already a biscuit shy of 380. He may eat himself out of our scheme even if Miles is let go.

Its not star gazing. Most of the Bama mods from various sites say he likely wont be in the class. I havent read anything specific as to why, but most seem to think he will end up at UGA when its all said and done.

Could potentially and likely have to do with Pruitt/Smart.

He committed after Smart was announced for UGA, but it was that weird time where he was still on staff but not. Can't really turn down a "Smart" evaluation when Pruitt has barely started working.

Now that Pruitt is in full effect, his opinion may vastly differ...

We would love to have Wilson. But CNS didn't want to get in a bidding war. That's just about word for word what the people with booster connections are saying.

Defensive tackle recruiting remains a hot topic for Alabama. With a number of prospects having high interest in the Tide, it’s Colorado that the staff could end up turning to for three-star defensive tackle Noah Elliss of Valor Christian. Alabama offered the 6-foot-4, 330-pounder during the spring evaluation period, and has stayed in touch with Valor Christian head coach Rod Sherman. The Tide staff is “excited” about Elliss, says Sherman. Elliss, the son of NFL Pro Bowl defensive tackle Luther Elliss, has yet to set up official visits. The 247Sports Crystal Ball reads 100 percent for Utah, Elliss’ father’s alma mater. Elliss is rated the No. 25 defensive tackle and the No. 368 overall player in the country.

As far as DL recruiting this year goes, I've heard that there's a DL in Juco that we like even more than Buggs (and don't think it's Tart-Spencer, but maybe it is) that's having a monster start to the season, but haven't been given a name. I know how vague that is, but it's all I know. Supposedly whoever it is is at the top of the DL board.

He's not a JUCO, but do you think they could be talking about the Elliss kid above?
