As the 2016 season approaches, college coaches around the nation will be busy monitoring top targets they hope to land in the 2017 cycle on national signing day.
A quick glance at the 247Sports team rankings shows that every team currently ranked among the nation’s top 25 classes has at least 12 commitments. Only five programs have fewer than 15 pledges to date.
With a large portion of their classes already settled, coaches are likely to spend time over the next six months focusing on landing their top remaining targets.
Let’s take a look at the primary option each preseason Amway Coaches Poll Top 25 program will be chasing in the months leading up to national signing day.

1. Alabama
Current Commits: 21
National Class Rank: 2
Top Remaining Target: 4-Star DE LaBryan Ray
With its current streak of six consecutive top-rated recruiting classes still ongoing, Alabama’s dominance on the recruiting trail is unquestioned.
While the Buckeyes are trying to dethrone the Crimson Tide from another recruiting national title, head coach Nick Saban and his staff are busy building another elite class bound for Tuscaloosa.
Alabama is used to cherry-picking talent from around the nation, but this year’s class features seven commitments from in-state prospects.
The Tide would like to take advantage of a deep talent pool in state by landing 4-star defensive end LaBryan Ray.
Alabama already holds a commitment from one of his prep teammates (3-star corner Kyriq McDonald), and they are actively recruiting another (3-star linebacker Monty Rice).
Winning out for Ray would cap a strong cycle for Saban and his staff in their backyard.

Now Devonta Smith his pushed his decision back to Signing Day.

Probably not. But it would certainly be much more favorable if he'd go ahead and commit. Seems like we have more of these than anybody else lately, even among guys considered Bama locks. Sort of weird. Probably just a coincidence, but a bit annoying nonetheless.

Not good. Craig might get this kid to go to LSU.

I don't see how. They have a jillion WRs on the roster. For the talented guys on our roster now, we actually don't have that many numbers-wise, and won't have many left after 2017 except for this class. Him going to L5U would be a much more difficult sell right now.

It could be bigger than football though. With the tragic goings on in Baton Rouge (the shootings and now the flooding), it could be more about wanting to be closer to home during the aftermath of it all. Could be a situation where he doesnt want to turn his back on his people... just a thought.

It might also be not wanting to announce for Alabama while his city recovers.

Freshman QB outshines the rest in Alabama’s second scrimmage
On Saturday, Alabama held its second scrimmage of the fall period.
Per a report from Touchdown Alabama, Hurts was by far the top performer on the afternoon — tossing two touchdowns and running for a third.
Barnett had a tough day, throwing two pick-sixes and fumbling twice on quarterback-running back exchanges. Bateman didn’t start the day well — but did finish with a 39-yard TD strike to ArDarius Stewart.
Hurts is a dynamic, fast athlete with terrific agility. His penchant for evading defenders is special, and his ability to pick up yardage in chunks when the play breaks down is something Alabama hasn’t really had at the quarterback position in recent memory.
It’s been 32 years since a true freshman has started at quarterback in Tuscaloosa. Can Hurts be the one to break the streak?

Needs to have a big senior year. He's all upside right now. Overrated to this point. And I would say the same if he were committed to us. Needs to get way more physical.

Well it's official. I'll be heading to the Middle East for 6 more months in January.

Same place I was before. Same position in fact. I can't post where.
The good things are I won't be missing two of my kids birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years or the football season.
Bad thing is I'll be missing one kid's birthday, my anniversary and my wife's birthday.
I do well in that environment though so I'll make it.

Man, did we evermore hit a grand slam with Trevon Diggs. And thank goodness he made the grades. I thought when we got him that he was underrated based on his film, and every bit as good as his brother was (5*) coming out of HS. And now he's looking great at safety, very good at receiver, and looks primed to be our punt returner and main kick returner. Every now and then, a guy turns out even better than the coaches that evaluated him thought. Looks like he'll be one of those. He's apparently a good bit faster than we thought. Perhaps a sign that he's still physically maturing some.
