then chances are he probably won't succeed in architecture or engineering at Stanford.
Different for him. He is going to have access to whatever help Stanford can give him to succeed academically. That's a ridiculous opportunity. To go to Stanford for free and then have the school hook you up with special tutors while organizing your life...
That's better than "come get a guaranteed win in a NC" in my opinion.

Is there a deadline for when a high school recruit has to sign with a school? Or could he keep trying to up his test scores until August?

stanford is one of the few schools where a degree can open pretty much any door down the road. and its pretty much the only school like that with a good football program

But, again, you have to balance that with the fact that he will be spending 25+ hours per week on football alone. The engineering majors at Alabama are stressed out and don't have much time. I imagine that stress is multiplied for engineering majors at Stanford.

I don't see LSU being in it for him as the process gets further along.

For better or worse, each recruiting class is defined by its quarterbacks.
Last year it was Jacob Eason vs. Shea Patterson at the top of the rankings. Before that it was Josh Rosen, Kyler Murray and Jarrett Stidham that highlighted the class of 2014. Matt Barkley was the man in 2009. Vince Young defined the 2002 class.
So who will be the face of the class of 2017? There isn't an undisputed top dog. There's a lot of talent still developing, still forming an identity.
It should be an interesting 11 months as we sort through the quarterback group and here is the cast of characters:

The rising star: Jake Fromm, Georgia – Alabama commit
Nobody has better junior film in this class than Fromm. His 4,099 yards in 2015 were spectacular and he made some remarkable throws. He's risen in the rankings (to the fourth-ranked and No. 62 player overall) and Alabama is going to have to fend off Georgia and others for Fromm all the way to next February's National Signing Day.

From Barton Simmons in the comments of the article linked above:

He played in shootouts, got beatup, showed toughness, leadership. He has a lot of intangibles. We've gotten a lot of guys close to where they need to be rankings-wise and then we'll sort it out further this spring and summer when we can see them throw in person.Really don't want to make someone the No. 1 QB in the country without seeing them up close (i.e. Fromm, McCaffrey who I think are the two top candidates now) .

From Barton Simmons again in the same comment section:

bamaboy89 said... (original post)who does Jake Fromm compare to from the last 3 classes?? also not saying he will start as freshman buts hes got the build and intangibles to do so...
On film, he looks like Shea Patterson with a stronger arm.
Film can be deceiving sometimes. Anxious to see him throw in person

Fromm is going to be unbelievable. I really hope we can hold on to him. Most important recruit in this class IMO

If Kirby can pull him after getting Eason he put in overtime to get him.

Alabama has extended an offer to Cartersville (Ga.) quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall player in the country for 2018, per 247Sports.
Lawrence, a former teammate of current early enrollee tight end Miller Forristall, is just the third quarterback in the 2018 class to receive an offer from Alabama, joining Allan Walters and Jack West.
I meant to post these yesterday:

How will Alabama overcome losing Bobby Williams as a full time recruiter, and his connections to that area?

What's the deal with North Carolina producing all of these good running backs the past few years? White looks really good.
