Yeah, I've forgotten about him. He really needs to drop some weight, though. Even more than Payne did a couple years ago. He's been a little sluggish at some of the camps against top OL recruits.

Saw that myself.......but think that can be corrected under Cochran, ala Paynes transformation.

Tyreke Johnson
Tyreke Johnson doesn’t offer up much new information. He interviews like a pro and uses a lot of words to say almost nothing of substance. This, it seems, is by design.
The five-star defensive back names no leaders and says his upcoming schedule is totally void of recruiting visits. In some ways, the Jacksonville-based standout is a man of recruiting mystery. His last visit was to Alabama, and he doesn’t mind discussing that, be it briefly.
“Alabama is Alabama,” Johnson said. “They put a lot of guys in the league. They just show me something new every time I visit.”
One of few things about which Johnson currently seems certain is his commitment timetable. A class-of-2018 prospect, he won’t sign a letter of intent for more than a full year. Even still, he’s targeted a time to make a verbal pledge.
“It will be December of my senior year, so I have plenty of time,” Johnson said.
IN HIS WORDS: “I don’t have a leader right now. I’m just trying to play football. I’m probably talking to UCLA the most right now.”
RIVALS REACTION: Johnson has been collecting scholarship offers since he was in middle school, but his likely landing spots have almost always been in doubt Johnson has visited a number of schools and seems to have real interest in both USC and UCLA. That said, Alabama will likely be a player in his recruitment until the end. He’s one of the hardest prospects in America to project this early juncture.

BURTONSVILLE, Md., - Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Top247 running back Anthony McFarland Jr. is inching closer to a college decision.
He named a Top10 this past week and on Friday at the Sound Mind Sound Body Football Academy in the Washington DC/Baltimore area McFarland named potential official visits.
“My officials are going to be Alabama, Miami, Maryland, Texas A&M and I have to find one more school, maybe South Carolina or Ohio State,” the blue-chip back said. “The only date I have is Alabama-Auburn game.”
quote:
Alabama made a big impression during his visit two weeks ago.
“It’s a family man, and talking to Lane Kiffin and him being able to show me how they’re going to use me instead of just telling me, it’s different when a college coach can show you. He showed me the film and stuff like that. It was great seeing how they would use me. It’s great down there but it’s not just football, education-wise it’s setup just like DeMatha’s structure. I love that about Alabama. Family atmosphere, they have a lot of DMV players down there, Terrell Hall, Trevon Diggs is one of my best friends, Richie Petitbon, so they have a lot of DMV guys down there and it’s always been like that.”

McFarland is also teammates with Chase Young.

BRADENTON, Fla. — Shaun Wade’s recent visit to Alabama was cut short because of a family emergency, and the trip was also much different than others to Tuscaloosa in another way.
Wade, a 5-star Ohio State cornerback commit from Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.), spent valuable time with Crimson Tide sophomore cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick starred as a freshman for Alabama, which is what Wade would like to do at the school he attends.
There are three schools Wade is strongly considering right now: Ohio State, Alabama and Florida. The Gators, he admits, offer him the best chance at early playing time with cornerbacks Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson likely leaving after this season to declare for the NFL draft.
But Fitzpatrick told Wade that he should not worry about depth charts with any of the schools he’s considering.
“I talked to Minkah for a long, long time,” Wade told SEC Country at the IMG 7-on-7 national championships. “He said (247Sports) projected that he wouldn’t play until his junior year. He kept that in his mind and went out there and competed for a starting spot.
“(The depth chart) doesn’t affect Alabama’s chances, because at any place you have to compete no matter what. Even if a school promises that I’ll play immediately, I am still going to have to compete. I know that for sure. Competition doesn’t phase me.”
Wade said he connected well with Fitzpatrick, who was also a 5-star recruit out of high school. Fitzpatrick took Wade through his recruitment process and why he ultimately chose the Crimson Tide. He also let him in on a secret.
“He told me he was about to leave Alabama at one point,” Wade said of Fitzpatrick. “He told me that Alabama has been the best choice for him.”
Wade’s connection with Fitzpatrick isn’t going to be enough for Alabama to flip him away from Ohio State, though. His parents need to be comfortable at the school he attends, and right now, he only knows they’re comfortable at Ohio State.
On a personal level, he admits that there aren’t many differences between Alabama and Ohio State.
“To be honest, they’re both the same schools to me,” Wade said. “Both of the schools have great coaches; they win championships and put their players in a spot where they can get to the NFL. I really don’t see a difference between the schools. The only difference I see is the campus and that’s not a big deal to me.”
Both Nick Saban and Urban Meyer sat down with Wade on his last visit to both schools. His conversation with both coaches solidified that those two schools would be good choices for him.
“Urban Meyer sat me down and told me if football doesn’t work out, he’s going to get me a great job,” Wade said. “That’s all I needed to hear. That’s big in my process. They have a mom program there. They call parents all the time to check in with them. Urban is just a good guy. My parents loved it.
“With Alabama, Nick Saban is huge on academics. I noticed that when I took this past trip to Alabama. My mom really liked it. If she’s not comfortable, I probably won’t go to that place.”

BRADENTON, Fla. — Alabama quarterback commit Mac Jones admits he most likely would have ended up at Florida if the Gators had offered him a scholarship. The Gators decided not to offer him a scholarship because they have a commitment from Jake Allen, who committed to Florida a year ago.
Having the opportunity to play for your home state was important to Jones, a 4-star prospect from The Bolles School (Jacksonville, Fla.), but he never was given that opportunity.
Now Jones is one of the Crimson Tide’s best recruiters and is trying to convince one of the state of Alabama’s best players to stay home. Nico Collins, a 4-star from Clay-Chalkville High School (Pinson, Ala.), who is one of Alabama’s main wide receiver targets in the Class of 2017, has been trending away from the state with Georgia, Michigan and Clemson pulling ahead.
Jones told Collins on Friday to stay home and represent the Yellowhammer State.
“I actually like to use the Florida analogy,” Jones told SEC Country at the IMG 7-on-7 national championships. “If you’re given the opportunity, because I was never given this chance, to play for one of your in-state schools, you have to take that and represent your state. It’s easier for your family to watch you play. I just think it would be much easier to stay home.”
Jones understands that Collins may just want to leave Alabama to experience something new. The Crimson Tide does have its work cut out in order to land a commitment from Collins, who is planning on committing on National Signing Day in February.
But if Jones has his way, Collins will be a member of the Crimson Tide on that day.
“Sometimes kids just don’t want to stay home and you can’t stop that,” Jones said. “If he told me that, then I would just say, ‘OK, that’s fine. Go find the best fit for you and make sure you feel at home away from your actual home.’ He always knows that if he stayed in Alabama, people would know him and he’d pretty much be famous.”
The quarterback flipped his commitment from Kentucky to Alabama earlier this month after what he said was one of the best decisions of his life. He quickly became enamored with the school and fell in love with the campus. He is hoping Collins, who was once considered a strong Alabama lean, regains the love Jones has felt now that he’s a part of the Crimson Tide family.
“I’m just really trying to get those players to come out to see how special of a place Alabama is beyond the football field,” Jones said. “You want to help those people out that are looking at other schools. I just feel like it’s my job to help present the facts to help with their decision.”
If Alabama misses on Collins, its other main wide receiver targets are 4-stars: Devonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs. Alabama already has a commitment from 4-star WR Tyrell Shavers.

That's not permissible, is it? Isn't that an extra benefit?

That's news. A ton of kids, it seems, consider this (Henry comes to mind), and I'm sure more consider it than we really know about. I don't get it.
Having said that, I met Minkah at a place of business in Bham not long ago with Reggie Ragland and he couldn't have been a nicer kid. Very polite, very engaged. The kind of guy you root for regardless of your fanhood.

I wonder if he meant he was about to decommit from Alabama, because he came pretty close to flipping to Florida State. As soon as he stepped on campus it was apparent he was in for a lot of playing time.

Fitzpatrick was basically a starter from game 1.

Minkah nearly flipped late. Penn State and Florida State were heavily after him.

He may have said something similar to this but you cant ever prove it unless the kid had a recorder on him. Urbs a slimy guy, always has been.

So we can see what lines have been to fed to James Cook.
quote:
“I didn’t do much at Alabama because I’m not a big fan of the SEC like that," Cook told 247Sports. "Before you get the the NFL they beat your body up. I wasn’t too into my visit there.”

No way to know for sure, but I assume he is talking about the initiative "Real Life Wednesdays" that Meyer does, where local business CEOs come in and explain that football isn't going to pay the bills for a good % of these kids so they need other skills
