And Petitbon is a gump through and through. He's gone full gump on quite a few interviews. I don't see him leaving.

--Obviously there's a shakeup of sorts on the defensive side of the coaching staff. Inside linebackers coach Kevin Steele is headed to LSU. Now another defensive staff member, outside linebackers coach Lance Thompson, is reportedly on his way out. Shortly after the SECG word leaked that Thompson's days in Tuscaloosa were probably numbered. Word the last two or three weeks was that UA was prepared for some departures and had already spoken to possible replacements. A few familiar names have been mentioned as having preliminary talks with UA. We'll see how this unfolds in the coming days.
--Today is the final day underclassmen can declare for the NFL Draft. While some took last week's announcements in Tuscaloosa as positive signs that defensive linemen Jarran Reed and linebacker Reggie Ragland would return next season, as of late last night there was still significant concern that both players might opt to leave. From what we hear, both players continue to struggle with their decisions. So this one isn't over yet.
--A quick recruiting note or two. As we've said, it appears UA is down to two scholarships in this class. Obviously the number could increase. But that's where it appears to stand as of now. The UA staff apparently would like to fill the two spots with an offensive tackle and a receiver.

--One OT mentioned frequently in recent weeks is Memphis standout Drew Richmond, who has been committed to Ole Miss since September. Word in recent weeks has been that the Ole Miss staff was very concerned with Richmond's renewed interest in Alabama. Richmond is slated to make an official visit to Alabama this weekend, Texas next weekend and then to Ole Miss. Word the past few days from the Ole Miss camp is that the a Rebel staff is much more confident now than they had been that Richmond sticks with OM.

--Last week Alabama landed a commitment from the nation's top running back Damien Harris. Another RB still being recruited by Alabama is Princeton, NC star Johnny Frasier, who is committed to FSU. Some have asked if Frasier still plans to make an official visit to Alabama this coming weekend. According to Princeton head coach Derrick Minor this morning, the 6-0, 220-pound Frasier will be in Tuscaloosa for the visit. In addition to Alabama and FSU, NC State and Duke continue to pursue Frasier.

--As we posted yesterday, tight end Tyrone Wheatley Jr is still scheduled to make his official to Alabama this weekend. Wheatley's high school coach, Rich Robbins, confirmed the visit plans. The 6-6, 260-pound Wheatley, of Buffalo, NY, is the son of former Michigan star RB Tyrone Wheatley. Wheatley Sr has been the RB coach for the Buffalo Bills. A few days ago it was reported that he joined the new Michigan coaching staff.

It would suck if they left, especially Ragland. Just have to wait and see

Ragland's weakness is pass coverage. Maybe the idea of Kirby taking the ILB's over again will play to his need?

Another out of the box idea

Move Kirby back to ILBers and hire Ron Cooper as the new DBs coach

Phenomenal coach, ridiculous recruiter, and a nice LSU melt

ETA: forgot to add Huntsville native

It looks like he went nfl for a year (Tampa Bay) and has been at USF for two years. It seems like he could've gotten a better job than USF if he wanted. It makes me wonder if there's something personal keeping him in Tampa.

It would be an absolute homerun hire.

I heard that one additional coach (Napier - WR coach) has been encouraged to "look around". The guy who told me has never given me anything I would call strong info before so I am curious if anyone else has heard anything like that?

I'm not sure on the validity, but I can say I've seen that rumor too. Chatta posted something about it last night as well.

Yeah. Id doubt Napier has been told to start shopping. He is a great recruiter and a fine coach.

Hard to know what to believe right now. The Thompson rumors late yesterday were met with a lot of rejection too.

A lot of ground to make up if you lose your TX/LA recruiter along with DC, Mobile, and the Carolinas.

UF still hasn't hired a WR coach, so they're waiting on someone...

I was rooting for MacElwain up 'til now. He can not has Napier.

Only thing I can even imagine us wanting a new WR coordinator is our WRs seem to have some trouble getting open sometimes besides Coop.

He has, but stuff can change in an instant. Guys have been called on the recruiting trail before about being hired/fired.

Napier probably wants to be at Bama, but if you believe the CLT rumors, Thompson wanted to be at Bama too.

I hope it's all rumors because I hope he stays...
