Y'all have done some good work on the MEGATHREAD since Friday.

The first page has been updated with all the new offers the staff gave out this weekend. I was not able to update stuff over the last few days seeing as Valentine's Day week is always busy for me. My birthday is 3 days after. Just too much going on to pick up the laptop and link profiles and highlights.

I'm gonna watch Blake Barnett's highlights at some point today. I'll try to break it down as well.

Was really looking forward to contributing to this thread, but work (DCH) will keep me busy. Anyways, Roll Tide and here's to another great recruiting class!

Jovon Robinson is all Bama if y'all want him. He's a stud. He'll be one of the best RBs in college football as soon as he steps on a D1 campus, IMO.

about Slayton's parents putting their phone #s on his hudl. They just opened up Pandora's box of crazy fans.

Free content from 247 Sports regarding this past weekend's Valdosta MVP Camp:

LINK

quote:

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Over 250 prospects from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Virginia took to Valdosta Stadium to compete in the MVP Camp on Sunday. For most, this was the first competition of 2014, but the signs of rust were few and far between on the field. Here are ten prospects that impressed.

1. CB Richard LeCounte (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty Co.)

When 247Sports traveled to watch five-star linebacker Raekwon McMillan play last Sept., the best performance on the field was by 2017 athlete Richard LeCounte. In a field of several sophomore and junior FBS prospects, the freshman once again gave the most dominating performance. The 6-foot-1 cornerback makes it look easy on the field and is very fluid in his transition and is not lacking in confidence either. There is no doubt that LeCounte is an elite prospect, and schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia and Ohio State have already come forward with offers.

2. DE D'Andre Gardenhire-Washington (Kingsland, Ga./Camden County)

Gardenshire-Washington was a terror off the edge on Sunday, using his long arms and explosive first step to wreak havoc on the offensive linemen in one-on-ones. Physically, Gardenhire-Washington reminds me of 2013 Mississippi State signee, Deshon Cooper, and it is hard to believe the 2016 defensive end weighs less than 200 pounds with his long arms and solid build. Schools looking for an edge rusher would do well to get this sophomore in camp this summer.

3. WR Tavares Chase (Plant City, Fla./Plant City)

Chase made the trip up and caught just about everything during MVP Camp, making clean cuts in and out of his breaks and showing very soft hands. Nate Craig (Dade Cityl Fla./Pasco) gets most of the pub, but Chase is right there with him as a top wideout from Tampa in the 2016 class.

4. CB John Broussard (Phenix City, Ala./Central)

Broussard emerged onto the scene at early camps a year ago, and he continues to impress as a cover corner. At 6-foot, he possesses the length coveted at cornerback, and he used his size and long arms to cover ground and make plays on the ball. Broussard is definitely one to watch as he continues to physically develop.

5. OL Tony Taylor (Norcross, Ga./Wesleyan)

From start to finish, it was clear that Taylor was the most talented offensive lineman in attendance. Taylor is a natural knee bender and did a nice job anticipating the pass rusher and utilizing a solid kickstep. Taylor has a great frame to add weight, and with added weight obviously his anchor should improve as well. He could play several positions on the offensive line and as such should see his recruitment take off this spring.

6. WR Fundrail Quimbley (Leesburg, Ga./Lee County)

Quimbley causes issues for defensive backs at MVP Camp because of his ability to get vertical. He gets upfield very quickly and demonstrated solid body control to react to poorly thrown balls. A definite slot receiver from a physical standpoint, Quimbley should also be able to help out with jet sweeps and in the return game because he is dangerous in space.

7. QB De’Andre Johnson (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast)

Because he is not over 6-foot-1, there will always be questions about whether Johnson has a future at quarterback, even though some have had success at his position despite lack of ideal measurables. But Johnson has a very live arm and a quick release, and he was very comfortable dropping back and letting it rip on Sunday. He can make all of the throws and if he continues to fine tune his throwing motion Johnson should be able to stick at the position. There is no doubt he has the tools needed to play quarterback, even without a growth spurt.

8. TE Khalil McClain (Valdosta, Ga./Valdosta)

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound class of 2017 prospect made some nice catches, even when a defender was in his pocket. Hybrid tight ends that can flex out and cause mismatches in the secondary are en vogue in college football, so McClain is worth tracking over the next four years.

9. LB Dedrick Mills (Waycross, Ga./Ware County)

Camps are tough settings for linebackers to truly shine, but Mills was able to hold his own against some very quick scatbacks in coverage. A physical athlete that also plays running back in high school, Mills made the decision to play defense at MVP Camp and that could be where the 6-foot, 200-pound sophomore ends up in college. He excelled at redirecting routes at the line of scrimmage and showed good lateral movement as well.

10. CB Joshua Norwood (Valdosta, Ga./Valdosta)

Secondary was the deepest position at MVP Camp and Norwood was one of the standouts. He has the size and length needed to match up with bigger wideouts and he moves very well for a taller cornerback. Norwood really did a nice job competing when the ball was in the air. The junior claims a Cincinnati offer and more could come during the spring evaluation period when colleges flock to see the young talent in Valdosta.

The 3 back rotation this yr will be Henry, some Yeldon with Tyren mixed in

I wouldn't be surprised if Drake is one of the "position switches" Saban likes to try in Spring to have some depth at S or something

Dee Hart and Kamara are already gone, we saw Tenpenny last yr because the decision was made on Tyren to RS him because of his size despite being a much better back. The management of RBs the last yr has been a complete shite show with Nuss

I think 1a and 1b is approach Kiffin will take with Henry and Yeldon and we will see close to 40%/40%/20% (Tyren)

I agree that the RB management was a joke last year, but how much of it was Nuss??? I mean to give Saban and Burns a pass in that area seems a bit unfair, IMO.

no doubt. Back before signing day some LSU guy was growing ridiculous about Bo Scarborough vs LF, saying bo looked ordinary and LFs film was full of stuff nobody had seen at rb. I posted a link to tyren's highschool film, in which he did exactly the same things against the best of Georgia hs football, which is pretty much the best in the country. He had nothing to say to that. I'm super excited to see tyren takes snaps. His change of direction is insane, and at 5'9 215 he's still going to have plenty of power and toughness, ala mark ingram

Marlon Humphrey

The nation’s No. 1 cornerback and No. 10 player overall according to 247Sports has company. Marlon Humphrey was one of six 5-star players to commit to Alabama, and yet he feels like the most important commitment by a significant margin.

Nick Saban also landed Tony Brown—the No. 2 cornerback on 247Sports—although Humphrey has the more developed skill set despite the fact that Brown is probably the better overall athlete. The more the merrier in this instance. Alabama needs it.

If you looked at statistics alone, you’d feel good about the Alabama pass defense from a season ago. The Crimson Tide checked in at No. 11 in passing yards allowed, giving up just 180.3 yards through the air.

The tape, however, tells a different story. Just put on a replay of the Sugar Bowl and look at the space wide receivers were able to find. And it's not just the Sugar Bowl. Quality wideouts (see: Texas A&M, LSU and others) had success against this team.

With safeties Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Vinnie Sunseri off to the NFL, Alabama corners will likely be called upon more often.

Humphrey doesn’t have to be Vernon Hargreaves III out of the gate. For the team to get a dramatic boost at the position, he won’t have to be. Good will be good enough.

Oh I didn't mean to seem like I was giving anyone a pass sorry its very clear that everyone had a part in it

I wouldn't say Saban as much because I believe at this point he defers most offensive decisions and that's why he needs an OC he knows he can trust. I just think this year with Kiffin being new though he will be more involved but he MUST let LK do his thing and LK will do it, do it well and have the O humming, too much talent not to

I believe though if you look at kids who contribute early it is always the bigger, more physical ones (good example is Nico Johnson after Hightower was injured yet it took CJ Mosley a couple years to be a starter) and this is the approach they took with RBs last yr, the class brought in 4 guys, Henry and Tenpenny were bigger coming in and Tyren was coming off rehab for an injury and jaw surgery or whatever and lost some of his muscle mass he played with. All accounts were that he came in healthy and proceeded to slaughter all the competition even talk from some that he was the best back on roster, yet the decision of a RS was already made and I think it was because of the smaller size and stature compared to those other 2. It makes sense from a coaches standpoint to do that because the young guys are gonna almost always gonna be back-ups and you don't wanna hurt their chances at a successful career by getting them hurt early on and I think the staff was scared that as good as Tyren was, he still wasn't SEC back size yet.

Well now his RS was used and the coaches now have an opportunity to play him some in the rotation, just don't be surprised if he really turns some heads this year

We pretty much need either brown or Humphrey to pan it this year. I fully expect guys like Jackson and Maurice smith, and even Cyrus Jones, to make big leaps from last year when they didn't know what was going on half the time, but I expec with as many dB's as we use we need the depth. In sure coach would like to redshirt at least one of them, but they might be to talented to keep of the field

nard did you know Tyren and his family are from La and relocated because of Katrina?

Imagine if he stayed in La, it was always my opinion that while Ga prospects still get noticed and recognized, La guys that are THAT good are hyped up beyond belief. I always thought he'd be a 5-star easily if he was able to play La competition and stayed in La

Bleacher Report made predictions for all of our EEs:

LINK

quote:

Eight of Alabama’s 26-member signing class of 2014 are already on campus, getting a head start on courses and gearing up for spring practice.

Some will be able to play right away due to personal ability and scarcity at their position. Others will be relegated to special teams duties or a redshirt because of a high volume of players already in place.

The Crimson Tide have seen freshmen like T.J. Yeldon, Amari Cooper and O.J. Howard arrive a semester early and have an immediate impact. Others, like defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson, finished out their senior year of high school and still saw playing time when they got to campus.

Enrolling early isn't necessarily a predictor of future success, but can’t hurt, either.

With that in mind, here are predictions for how Alabama’s eight early enrollees will fare this season.

quote:

Cam Robinson

Robinson joins the team with all the promise in the world. He’s a 5-star offensive tackle and considered the best in the class at his position.

And he steps into an offensive line in a state of flux after losing two players to the NFL. Gone are left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio and right guard Anthony Steen. Left guard Arie Kouandjio didn't exactly impress last year, and Austin Shepherd was switched out for freshman Grant Hill at times.

Robinson is still a very raw prospect but could end up being one of the best in the country.

Prediction: Starts off the season as a reserve and becomes a starter by mid-season.
