Dumb for an event in gym shorts imo

Yes and no. It's an event in gym shorts but it's also against a level of competition that doesn't exist on their high school game film. It's one thing for a WR to dominate nameless CBs in an actual game, it's another to go head-to-head with the best in the country and still dominate.

So I see the value in it but don't think it should completely override the other factors that go into rankings.

Josh Rosen is my guess.

Can't be since there's also a new #1 QB

ETA: nevermind. Thought I was looking at 247 rankings but was looking at composite

I'm thinking that also.

My guess at the new QB rankings

1-Rosen
2-Barnett
3-Town
4-Stidham
5-Murray

OL/DL were in pads. Best event for evaluation for OL/DL that there is. Maybe even including Army Bowl/UA Bowl. Don't think you'll see a ton of LB/RB movement because it's not a great eval setting for them. But is for WR/DB, OL/DL and QBs compared to highlight film evals

I maybe see his point about OL/DL, but I don't buy it as much for skill players in 7on7. That isn't football. A receiver's success is as dependent on chemistry with his randomly selected QB as his skill level. If that chemistry isn't there, the QB won't throw him that many balls. You don't get to see DBs come up in run support, which is a major aspect of the position. QBs aren't dealing with a pass rush.

There are just too many missing variables for it to matter so much in the rankings.

Minkah is another candidate for getting bumped to 5* on 247. He had a good showing and only needs to move up 10 spots

Good free info per TiderInsider:

Recruiting Rundown
Here's a quick look at recruiting this week.

Number 1 for 2016
The big week started with a bang on Sunday evening with the commitment of 2016 defensive lineman Benito Jones of Wayne County HS in Waynesboro, MS.

Even though it's still a long way until NSD 2016, and a lot of schools will ramp their recruitment of of him over the next several months, Jones appears to be sold on UA. The 6-2, 275-pound Jones is a longtime Alabama fan. Sources say the Tide staff was extremely pleased to have landed Jones. He's a very quick, strong defensive lineman who makes plays.

Jones was the first prospect to commit in UA's 2016 class.

Number 2
Cornerback Shyheim Carter of Kentwood, LA became the second top prospect to commit in the 2016 class today during a visit to Tuscaloosa. The 5-11, 180-pounder from Kentwood, LA is considered one of the top corners for the 2016 class. Last season Carter had 1,072 yards of offense and scored 11 TDs. On defense he had 23 tackles and an interception.

Number 3
UA picked up its third commitment for the 2016 class today from Savannah,-Savannah Country Day, GA standout receiver Demetris Roberson. Family members confirmed the commitment to TI.

The 6-0, 175-pound Robertson, who is camping in Tuscaloosa, is one of the nation's top prospects with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas A&M and UCLA, among others.

Next to commit?
The next to pull the trigger might be Wetumpka 2015 offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy, who is visiting Tuscaloosa today. The 6-3, 292-pound Kennedy landed a scholarship offer from UA after an excellent performance at the Tide's OL/DL camp in June. He received an offer from Auburn on the same day. It's been a Tide-Tiger battle since.

Kennedy, who grew up an Alabama fan, is expected to make his decision soon. Some think Alabama is the frontrunner.

Top 2016 QB might decide soon
Possibly the biggest 2016 name in Tuscaloosa this week is quarterback Jacob Eason of Lake Stevens, Washington. The 6-4, 205-pounder was slated to participate in this morning's camp session and spend spend some time visiting the campus before heading for a visit to Georgia.

The Tide and Bulldogs had been considered two of the early favorites for Eason, whose father played at Notre Dame. Word is that Georgia is optimistic about their chances of landing an early commitment from Eason. Some think Eason might pull the trigger soon.

CB offered at camp
2015 cornerback Jordan Whitehead Monaca-Central Valley, PA walked away from UA's camp with an offer. Whitehead is a former prep teammate of UA redshirt freshman WR Robert Foster. The 5-11, 176-pound Whitehead is considering Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia among others.

"He was very excited about the Alabama offer," says Central Valley head coach Mark Lyons. "I think he'll come back here and sit down and sort of start formulating a list and go from there. But Alabama's got his attention. It's kind of like the old E.F. Hutton commercial, when Alabama talks, people listen. He's really excited."

Lyons says that Whitehead consistently runs the 40 in the 4.4s

2016 Texas DB talks camp
Deontay Anderson (6-1, 192) is one of the nation'a elite defensive backs in the 2016 class from Manvel, Texas. Anderson was at UA this week at camp.

"It was pretty good, because I got to come with my family" Anderson says. "I got to talk to the defensive coordinator, Coach Smart. He's real excited about me because I can play every position in the secondary. He said that's the kind of guys they're looking for.

"Coach Saban told me that they're excited about getting me there to Bama. That was really good to hear."

Anderson says he has a connection to UA.

"My God brother is Maurice Smith," Anderson says. "He's probably going to start for Bama this year. He's always telling me that I've got to come there to Bama. But I really don't have any favorites right now."

There's been speculation that Texas A&M will be the team to beat.

"Well, I'm surrounded by a lot of Aggies," Anderson says. "A lot of Aggies go to my school. They're always telling me I need to go to A&M. But I'm not going to be pressured to go to a school."

Bama-UF battle
Adonis Thomas, a 2015 linebacker Central Gwinnett HS in Lawrenceville, GA, plans to make his decision between Alabama and Florida on August 1. Thomas, who has been a Florida lean, made a visit to UA over the weekend and some think Alabama has now pulled ahead of the Gators.

The 6-4, 220-pound Thomas had 70 tackles and four sacks last season. He has offers from Alabama, Florida, FSU, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Texas and Texas A&M, among many others.

Coming to town
As TI has previously noted, safety Ronnie Harrison (6-2, 205) from Tallahassee-University, is expected to visit with his parents this Friday. Harrison made a big splash at UA's camp last month. Word is that Harrison was one of the most impressive safeties to camp at UA during the Saban tenure. Harrison is committed to North Carolina, he plans to make a decision between Alabama and UNC later this summer.

Several other top 2015 prospects are supposed to be in town later this week, including LB/DE CeCe Jefferson (and his father) and DE Byron Cowart.
2016 star corner John Broussard of Phenix City-Central told TI he'll arrive in Tuscaloosa today.

North Little Rock, AR 2015 receiver/kick returned K.J. Hill has changed his visit plans. The 6-0, 185-pound Hill suffered a jaw injury at The Opening last week. Hill tells TI that he's rescheduled
his visit to Alabama for next week.

It has taken two days for Alabama to insert itself near the top of the national recruiting rankings for the class of 2016. Though it sits at No. 2 currently, there isn’t a school in the country with a better three prospects committed than the three that have pledged to Alabama.

Heading into Monday, Alabama had landed one of the nation’s most active defensive linemen in Benito Jones. I had a chance to see Jones in person earlier this spring and his hand-quickness, strength and ability to play with quickness and leverage were among the best I’ve seen out of the 2016 class.

With the addition of Demetris Robertson and Shyheim Carter, Alabama has now put themselves in a position to land one of the best secondaries in the country for 2016. Carter is a versatile do-it-all athlete that has the physical demeanor to excel at Alabama. Robertson is a quick twitch athlete that I think could be a dominant wide receiver but that translates to phenomenal ball skills and range at the safety position as well.

Both Robertson and Carter were recently invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl because we feel like they are among the best playmakers in the country – on either side of the football.

We're not leaving many spots for the season and post-season. Wonder who we might be expecting to flip or planning on encouraging to look around
